Art imitating life or was it just the heat?

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Dottie Mae Lovers (I will get to her later)

Last night I was sniffing around facebook while sandwiched between 2 hot hounds.

I was also watching the oddest movie staring Kiefer Sutherland as the artist, Paul Gauguin.    As I was watching and surfing something very magical and odd happened. The movie was focusing on this painting.

Still Life with Three Puppies
Paul Gauguin (French, 1848-1903)

When Gauguin painted Still Life with Three Puppies he was living in Brittany among a group of experimental painters. He abandoned naturalistic depictions and colors, declaring that “art is an abstraction” to be derived “from nature while dreaming before it.” The puppies’ bodies, for example, are outlined in bold blue, and the patterning of their coats mirrors the botanical print of the tablecloth. It is thought that Gauguin drew stylistic inspiration for this painting from children’s-book illustrations and from Japanese prints, which were introduced to him by his friend and fellow artist Vincent van Gogh that year.

And I was focusing on this puppy on facebook!

Dottie Mae2

It was on Bob the Dog’s face book page and of course the “wiener/basset mix” is ADORABLE but Dottie Mae is in a foster home in Cincinnati!  I live 5 minutes from Cincinnati.

Back to the movie……Gauguin’s daughter, at this point in the movie is BEGGING for a puppy.  Jumping up and down, pleading with her parents.  (She gets the puppy)

Back to Bob the Dog’s facebook page.  Everyone and their brother begins commenting on this darling pup.

Dottie Mae

So, here goes……..GRANDMA CAN I HAVE A PUPPY?  PLEASE GRANDMA, PLEASE GRANDMA…..PLEASE LET ME HAVE A PUPPY!

OK, I am just kinda kidding here but I would sure love to have this pup.  I know I can’t.  Chaps would not care for it in the least.  I guess it was just the heat…..

More loving art imitating life later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

Oh no, I’m such a sucker for a spotted dog (obviously). Luckily for me, Cincinnati is a very long drive, or we might have another snout to feed.

I used that Gauguin painting as part of an art lesson in my grade 9 class. The world needs more dog paintings!

Kay, I am such a sucker as well. In the basset world when a hound has a spotted ear we call them lace ears. It is kind of rare. I love the blue speckled pup. Darling…..

This beautiful pup would look great next to Emma, but Chaps the grouch wouldn’t stand for it one minute.

Grandma – we need to buy a farm and let Chaps have his own wing where he can be King! Then this pup can live in your wing! LOL!

Susan – This pup is a star. I will keep up with her and see what happens. I bet she is already adopted. She also has a sister that is really cute.
