Lumpy Bumpy Basset Hounds;)

August 17th, 2011 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not lumpy bumpy lovers.   Good grief, if it’s not one lump it’s another bump.  The Mayor has the worst luck with sebaceous cysts.  Now he has one in his ear of all places. It is open and draining.  I clean it everyday and try to keep it dry.

His vet does not think it will go away due to it’s location.  So, when he gets his teeth cleaned in a few weeks we will have it removed.  I can tell it is bothering him.  The cyst is right down where the ear meets the head.  Here I am getting some air to it.

The Mayor also has a big lump on his back that his vet has been watching so I might get it removed as well.  It just looks painful to me.

He also has a large wart on his ankle.  Dear Dog the Mayor is a mess! I will spare my dear readers a photo of that!

Here is a great article we found via Twitter yesterday.  It is all about sebaceous cysts. Really, very interesting.  I am going to watch the entire series.

The Canine Cyst You Should NEVER Squeeze…

More inspecting the Mayor later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Oh! our poor Mayor. Thanks for the video, it was really informative. Slinky has a couple of small walled cysts that I am living a alone since they haven’t grown or burst. I hate to put a animal through surgery.

Our Mayor, will need extra love’n, treats and cuddles when he has to deal with these lumps.

    Cat, please keep up posted.

I have never seen a wart on a dog, please send me a photo if you can. I want to be able to recognize one if Slinky gets any.

I know the pain. Jethro is a bumpy lumpy boy too. But, I don’t think his are the kind they are talking about in this article cuz I don’t think his are caused by oil. His don’t do what she described. His get bigger and bigger until his skin stretches too far them they’ll try to split. Other than that, they’ll just grow forever. They are benign though. Thank doG! He’s had one removed from his muscular handsome thigh, his side and the most recent one on the end of his tail. By the way, you’d never know there was one on his tail now. They were threatening amputation and I wanted to try and save it. Looks like we did! Now he has one right on the edge of his rib cage. It makes him look like he has a broken rib sticking out. So, that’ll be next to go. I’ve never put him under for a dental without getting a cyst removed. My poor boy!

I tried to look at part 1 and 2 to see if they are what Jethro has but it was making me register and my PC wasn’t cooperating so I gave up.

The mayor will be just fine. I wish he didn’t have those ugly things. I just hate that for him.

Poor Chaps – keep us posted on the lumpy bumpy boy! I am always so scared when one of them has to have a surgery no matter howl minor it is. Abby has a hard time waking up and that is very scary! Take care of him!

The Mayor will have 3 private unregistered nurses at his side. I need to get Emma a candy striper snood. Actually, she will get her teeth cleaned the same day.

Poor Mayor! Seems like some bassets have more tendency to get these lumps (the basset I had as a kid was like that). French Fries are called for.

Poor Jethro! His lumps sound like what our Nell had on her head a couple of years ago … just kept getting bigger and bigger.

Our poor Mayor! But, the Mayor keeps climbing though the rocks be rugged. I agree, french fries.

Poor Mayor! My Zoe has a bump on her tummy near a nipple that swells and bleeds. Her vet said it was probably a blood blister. I am not sure about that- its been there for weeks. Has anyone else had this with their bassets?

Sandy – no I have not. Just that one that is in Chaps ear. My vet said it was a cyst. Could it be a cyst?

Thanks guys for all of the well wishes. I will let you know the date they go in for a teeth cleaning. Last time they did fantastic. Howl often do you guys do teeth cleaning?

Oh, The Mayor is so tolerant, to let you handle his lumps and bumps. I hope he feels better once his teeth are shiny smooth and his ears are too!

We will definetely be keeping the Mayor and Emma in our prayers during their surgery day. Please keep us posted. Colby just had has vet visit a couple of weeks ago and he has 2 lumps. One under his belly, and the other on his side by his rip cage. The vet did a biospy during the visit and said it was just a sebacious cyst, and he could remove during his dental which we are scheduling in a couple of months. I’m only going to remove the one under his belly because he has had it for a couple of years and it has grown. I can’t stand the thought of surgery……always scares me to death, I’m such a worry wart. I’m going to be worried just the same about Daddy Chaps, so please keep us posted.

Cat, I clean my dogs teeth when the vet advises. Luckily, I have a good vet that doesn’t advise unless they need it. Every hound is different. For instance, Oz’s teeth turn brown again only a few months after cleaning. His get cleaned yearly. Jethro and Rugs are about average and they can go 2 years before cleaning. For some reason Harriet’s teeth stay clean for about 3 years. So, it really depends on the hound, I think. In between I give denta stix and Crunch and Clean. I guess that helps. They sure like em!
