San Antonio police say the diligence of a burglary victim and the bite of a basset hound both contributed to an arrest this week.

Alex Hernandez Villarreal was arrested on a charge of burglary. An arrest warrant alleges he and his brother broke into a woman’s home Saturday.

San Antonio police said the victim came home to find a strange SUV with a missing front bumper in her driveway.

Investigators said the victim and the two intruders in her driveway exchanged words. They left.

According to the warrant, the victim noticed the same gray SUV with the missing bumper in the 1400 block of Hillcrest. More specifically, it was what was in the vehicle that caught her attention. Police said she saw her daughter’s missing belongings, so she called SAPD.

Villarreal, 25, announced his surrender through a neighbor, according to the warrant.

Police said his brother, who isn’t named in the arrest document, ran from the house. He was captured by police after being bitten by a basset hound as he ran through someone’s yard.
