Picnic at Devou Park, Covington, Kentucky
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and exploring another Kentucky Park Lovers…..
Today we visited a park that is literally right in our backyard. Devou Park is only about 15 minutes from our home and Dog knows why we have waited this long to enjoy it. Back when my Mom was a little girl she would enjoy Devou Park all summer long. Thousands of folks would head for the cool hills of Devou and actually spend the night under the stars. I can certainly see why. The hills are high above the city of Cincinnati and the breezes blow cool. It is very cool!
This is the area where families, including Grandmas would gather and enjoy the night air.
There is a huge lawn that over looks the city. Grandma said it was like a twinkling jewel.
This shell was built in 1939 when Grandma was a young girl. Today, a bluegrass festival was setting up. It was so much fun. I love Bluegrass Music!
One summer night the shell had a concert in 1939 that hosted 40,000 folks! Can you believe that? Howl totally cool is that?
I loved hearing all about Grandma’s memories. It was so much fun.
Then we went and had our picnic. We found the perfect spot! We were over looking the golf course and that cute little lake.
This is the side view…
And the rear view;)
More loving Devou Park later…..Cat, Grandma, Chaps and Emma
What a beautiful place! Yeah, shame on you for waiting so long to visit. I think you need to visit this park more often.
What did we eat on the picnic?
Grandma’s famous tuna fish sandwiches. OMDog they were so good. Plus, we had a slice of one of our home grown tomatoes. Delicious.
Mmmmmm! I love tuna. My home grown tomatoes are gone. But, I’m trying a new method that I heard on a talk show about cutting off the top foot and a 1/2 and replanting. I did that about a month ago and they actually have some healthy looking flowers! We’ll see if I get fall tomatoes.
Wow, what a great suggestion Cindy. Grandma and I must try that! Thanks!
I love tuna salad sandwiches with crasins mixed in and on toasted honey wheat bread. Tomatoes are great this year – my mother in law is 90 and supplies us with wonderful tomatoes from her garden. I LOVE the rear view picture!!
Crasins? Oh that sounds good! My Mom does really spicy tuna. She added a splash of lemon as well. Oh, it is so good. I need to get her recipe…
“Lazy Hal Blog” led me here.
I might have been this park long long ago, when I was university student,
on the way to Ottawa Ohio to play in “Ottawa Bluegrass Festival” from Nashville Tennessee. Yes, I play bluegrass. So,” Pikecounty” Kentucky sounds very special to me. I play guitar. Lester Flatt is my idol, Bill? he is my God.
I live with my wife and two bassets, Hank and Tasha by the lake Hamanako
in Japan.
Visit my blog if you please..
kemosabee – howl wonderful to hear from you. I am so happy that “Lazy Hal Blog” led you here to my blog. That is so wonderful that you play bluegrass. You must be a Kentucky boy at heart! I love bluegrass so much. Foggy Mountain Breakdown is one of my all time favorites.
You would have had so much fun at the park yesterday with your bassets. Last night there were about 2000 people listening to all of the bluegrass bands from Northern Kentucky. The sound was amazing.
I did visit your blog and had such fun looking around. Your bassets, Hank and Tasha are beautiful and your home by the lake is enchanting. Please have a nice week with your family.
PS – Did you see this?

I think that place is charming! What a great view, and I see Claire made the female vocalist list! She is so good.
What a lovely place, and it looks and sounds like you all had a wonderful time.
Amazing how sweet you are here! I love you…Sarah!!!
Ah….Thanks Sarah. What a nice comment!
Mmmm-hmmmm, I hope you are proud of yourself, really you should be. You do good work and I want to get involved. E-mail me and let me know how to donate to homeless basset hounds.
Love Sarah in Maryland.
I love when my point is staring me in the face, even if no one else can see it. I do really love what you do and I would love to donate money to your rescue causes. I live in Maryland and I understand there are many rescues in need near the mall I often visit. Thanks again darling. I love what you do! Sarah
I might start writing blog posts about your efforts and spreading the word. I am active with a group of women in Maryland who are all Moms. I try and organize them to follow topics I am interested in. I will be in touch later….
Your new friend….Sarah
Wow Sarah you are really a pistol! You can just e-mail me if you want and I can give you more information about area basset rescues. I think you had an event not to long ago at the Francis Scott Key Mall? Kids love basset hounds!
Hondas are pretty awesome. I had an Accord for 18 years and finally donated it. I am so bored tonight.
Wow, this blog got some really good comments today!
How was that book signing in Newport, KY? – Sarah
Reply from Cat:
Oh, it went really great! Thanks for asking Sarah! Lily was such a wonderful hound. You should buy the book for your kids.
Post Edited….
For some reason Sarah wanted me to remove her post. Actually, she got really mad!
I cannot explain it now, but I will try at a later date. She totally flipped out! I have never had that happen before. She went totally berserk.
It was so odd. She was posting, and posting, and posting and I did think that was a bit odd because she was very inappropriate with some of her postings. I deleted those but let in the one that seemed OK. Then, when I linked to her blog she totally flipped out. She had me on speed dial tonight and was spewing threats to call my local Police station.
OK, I have a full fledged Troll. Or maybe a stalker?
I could post all of her comments but I choose not to. She has some really cute kids and they don’t need to read about Mommy’s rage disorder. Sarah…get help honey!
Thank you for showing me the IBMA site. It has been enhanced much.
I could find just a few names in the nominee names.
Time changes everything..
I used play five string banjo, and my first tune was
Foggy Mountain Breakdown, like many beginners.
That is not very difficult one, but, Earl’s complete form is too completed.
So, no one can be satisfied with own play,,,,sigh.
I was on your site when she was posting and you were deleting. That person – Sarah is a flipping idiot. Yes, you have a Troll. Full fledged. Who knew that a woman married to an enlisted man would TROLL a basset hound site. Very sick. What is her problem?
I have no idea. Sarah went postal. All I can say is she is hideous. Her comments to me were horrible. She left the one good one that I posted and then laid into me. I did a google search on her and found her blog which was very nothing berger. Just a boring Mommy telling her boring stories. Why she came on my blog and attacked me is beyond WTF? I always heard about trolls but now I have one. At least I know who she is. It was so funny how she thought she could hide. She even said in one of her comments how she loved living overseas and she could hide. I have no idea why she hates me or basset hounds. Sarah is a nut. Is she roasting on an open fire? Edited to remove Sarah’s last name
She even shut down her blog and facebook. Wonder why she is so scared? Very odd and somewhat interesting. Who is this person that I have massive information on? Why did she come to bassethoundtown to troll? Believe you me folks she was vile after I let in her one comment. The verbal vomit she spewed was horrible.
Hey Sarah – please tell me which one. I thought I took them all down. I don’t see it.
I just did a search for your name and I don’t see it anywhere. Again, just let know know and I will take off your full name. I think your harassment was just contained to this one blog posting.

Got it….No problem….
OK, let me get this straight. This troll, named Sarah, can come to your blog anonymously and harass you with filthy comments. You, as the blog owner, investigate, find out who the toll is and attach her name to her own comments and she wants to file a complaint on you?
What is wrong with this picture? There should be a website to report trolls and their identities. Hey, not a bad idea. You should look and see if there is something like that on the web.
I bet Sarah was also a bully. Guess she still is.
Keep me posted
I am not going to comment any further on Sarah. It is time to move on and my life is calling! hehehe
