From PJ dreams to dreams of driving….

May 5th, 2011 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Dreaming Lovers…..Do you remember when you had dreams of driving? Oh, I sure do. I would spend hours and hours waiting for the day.

Well, so does my nephew….

I had dinner with him tonight and took this shot of him dreaming behind the wheel of his Mom’s car. He still has 2 plus years but dream he does!

IMG_2972

I had to harkin’ back to a different dream time. The dreams he used to tell me about after he woke up while he was clutching Chaps….

julian&chaps2

I wrote all of them down. Not a one mentioned driving…..

Well, time moves on….sometimes 60 miles an hour…..

EYE CANDY…..

May 3rd, 2011 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Eye Candy Lovers……

A special shout out to Debbie and the Masterpiece Bassets for sending me this pawsome e-mail!

If I ever make it overseas again this is on my bucket list.

THE NETHERLANDS IN MAY!

image005

Can you imagine this is your backyard?

image001

The northern Netherlands in the middle of tulip season. The Dutch landscape in May is kaleidoscope of color as the tulips burst into life. The bulbs are planted in late October and early November. More than three billion tulips are grown each year and two-thirds of the vibrant blooms are exported, mostly to the U.S. and Germany.

image003

Their dazzling colors are thanks to the years in the 17th century when tulip mania swept the
globe and the most eye-catching specimens changed hands for a small fortune.

image006

But like a rainbow, this colorful landscape is a short-lived phenomenon.

image017

When the flowers are gone, the land will be cultivated for a rather more mundane crop of vegetables.

image002

The Netherlands produce more than nine million bulbs a year.

Wanna see the 2 lips in my back yard?

We just received our dandy, fancy mini quilts from Orvis!

May 2nd, 2011 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and loving our new mini quilts lovers! We are very excited in bassethoundtown about our new purchase! It was a big leap, but leap we did. These quilts are the highest quality and we LOVE them!

IMG_2936

Well, well, well…..Grandma and I decided that we could not put these special new quilts on a 10 year old bed so we went off to find the perfect new bed. It is so cool. We found it at Petsmart. This is a picture of Chaps on it. Of course it will never be seen again because it will be covered up! But it matches!

IMG_2927

The kids could not wait to try out their new set up!

IMG_2944

I decided to put the extra quilt on my mini couch in my office. This is a fold out single bed! I love it!

Then Emma came in to try out the new set up!

IMG_2946

She absolutely loves it. A 10 year old bed is way too old and full of dust mites. It was one of the bolster beds that you can’t wash. I always kept it covered but it was time to retire it.

IMG_2956

Chaps looks happy as well!

Then Emma crawled in and Grandma covered her up with her lap duvet!

IMG_2958

Chaps was confused (as usual) and this is what ensued!

IMG_2964

We will find a nice balance soon!

Oh! BREAKING NEWS…..both kids are on the new bed! They look like yin and yang!

Meet Ranger and buying kisses!

May 1st, 2011 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and soon to be Ranger Lovers…..

Yesterday I had a very important item on my list and that was to meet Ranger. This handsome boy wound up in our local pound a few weeks ago. I did not find out about him until I was chatting with my Animal Control officer last week. She runs the local all breed rescue, SMALL ANIMAL ADOPTION PROGRAM (SAAP).

I was thrilled that she pulled him! I told her I would come to her adoption event this weekend and do some networking on behalf of Mr. Ranger!

IMG_2896

Look howl hopeful he is. I took him out and we went for a nice walk, potty break, and freshened his water. The poor thing was racing like a engine. He couldn’t go fast enough.

IMG_2880

I finally got him to slow down for a second and smile for Grandma.

IMG_2886

“Hi Grandma”!

There was a pet fair going on at this adoption event and the Grand Marshall was Nosey! A 6 month old basset pup that belongs to Marcie Hall!

IMG_2864

She was selling kisses for a dollar for SAAP! I bought my kiss, INDEED!

Hopefully Ranger will be giving his new family free kisses very soon! Click on the link above if you would like more information, or feel free to e-mail me!

Cindy, bassethoundtown resident rescues a needy basset!

April 30th, 2011 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and loving to rescue basset lovers! I love stories like this. Thursday I got an e-mail from one of our residents, Cindy, of Jethro, Rugs, Ozzie and Harriet! She said…..

“The local shelter called me about a pretty girl they had. Big girl. So I called Basset Buddies Rescue of TX and they had room for her in a kennel. We’re trying to get her a foster home though. I am picking her up Friday and taking her to Houston for vetting. From there a volunteer will transport her to her temporary destination while she looks for a home.”

FRIDAY WAS HOLLY’S BIG DAY!

Cindy checks in to bassethoundtown with updates!

“1:54 – We just got loaded up and drank some fresh water. Now she’s laying in the back on comfy blankets eating a treat.
holly3
1:55 – Holly didn’t stay in the back very long. She quickly took the front passenger seat and asked me where were we going. I explained that we were going to search for a furever home and told her she would be fine.

holly2

1:56 – We dropped by Jack in the Box and shared a breakfast sandwich and some hash browns. Holly enjoyed it as she patiently waited for her bite. It was lip smacking good!

1:57 & 1:59 – Laying down to take a nap.
holly1
1:60 – Holly and me at West Alabama Animal Clinic.

She is a very sweet dog and doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. She seems to be good with all dogs and even cats. I think she would be fine for children.

So, we wish our Holly Dolly good luck! We have all paws crossed that she’ll find a GREAT furever home.

Cindy.”

Good job Cindy! Thank Dog you were Holly’s angel! Keep us posted when you have a link to her page on Basset Buddies Rescue of TX!

All hail Her Royal Highness, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge!

April 29th, 2011 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow basset hound and Her Royal Highness, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, lovers!

Well…..Grandma and I are certainly lovers of HRH! Actually, we are lovers of the entire royal wedding. We had soooooooooooo much fun today!

We got up early. I actually got up at 2:00am because I could not sleep. I was so excited to see the coverage. I knew that the kids would sleep in much longer so I got a shot of Emma yesterday with her tribute to Her Royal Highness, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

IMG_2826

I went up to Grandma’s place about 4:45.

IMG_2832

We had a real royal set up for our viewing pleasure!

IMG_2841

Royal egg McMuffins and…………..

IMG_2862

A champagine toast (during the kiss) with a dark chocolate brownie and a cream cheese CROWN!

Life can’t get much better when you are happy!

A lip reader saw HRH Catherine say, “are you happy?” And William said, “Yes, very.”

(I took this picture off the TV)

Spot of tea anyone?

April 29th, 2011 - 3:03 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Royal Wedding Lovers! We are sooooooooo excited and have been waiting for this morning since the announcement of the engagement! We have been up since 2:00am! Of course, being a foreign dignitary, the Mayor was invited. I just caught a glimpse of him on his way to the Abby with the Queen!

The Mayor knew what he was wearing! His beautiful red coat!

We will be going upstairs for a Royal Egg McMuffin and a split of champagne shortly!

Plan G…….

April 27th, 2011 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Thunderstorm plan lovers….

Well, here in bassethoundtown we are at plan G.

Plan A – Weather the storm – did not work
Plan B – Rescue Relief – did not work
Plan C – Benadryl – did not work
Plan D – Xanax – kinda worked
Plan E – Thundershirt – kinda worked
Plan F – Thundershirt and Xanax – kinda worked
Plan G – Thundershirt, Xanax, and the Mayor’s old kennel – hope it works

Well, after talking to my BFF who had a thunder phobic dog we are going to try the kennel route.

Last night was horrific! After talking to Janie (BFF) and hearing howl she had such luck with the kennel for her ATB dog Bo, Grandma and I are going for it.

As a side note, Janie rescued Bo as a pup on her honeymoon. It was right after Hurricane Hugo. Janie and her new husband were heading to the airport home from South Carolina when Janie spotted a drenched pup on the highway after Hugo. She directed the cab driver to pull over and “Bo” was in her lap within seconds. Bo was named Bo because the name of the road they were on was Bohickin, or something like that. Bo took the flight with her and her new husband home that day. Janie is convienced that Bo was storm phobic after living through Hurricane Hugo. I totally agree with her.

So, Grandma and I went down to the basement and retrieved Chaps old kennel.

IMG_2811

Look at the Mayor! He is all…”What are you doing Grandma?”

IMG_2813

Grandma explains to him that this is his “special storm place that has lots and lots of french fries in it!”

My BFF dropped off french fries for the Mayor and the easing in process…..

IMG_2818

Here he goes into his old kennel to retrieve the treat. I have the kennel set up right across from the living room bed that we all sleep on.

IMG_2819

The Mayor backs out with mild trepidation.

Then, we put his second favorite toy in the kennel and I laid the Thundershirt by the the door.

IMG_2824

He is curious.

Just a few seconds ago a Tornado Watch was issued until 1:00am. Severe Thunderstorms loom large.

I have to do this for him, Emma and myself. Chaps has become a danger to himself by trying to climb. He has become a danger to Emma by climbing on her back. He has become a danger to me as well. He tries to climb over my head. If I am sitting on a couch, he wants to be on the back of the couch. Oh, it is a hot mess.

I don’t know what plan H would be……Drool for us please!

More loving, the not yet tested plan G later….Cat, Chaps and Emma
