Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Thunderstorm plan lovers….
Well, here in bassethoundtown we are at plan G.
Plan A – Weather the storm – did not work
Plan B – Rescue Relief – did not work
Plan C – Benadryl – did not work
Plan D – Xanax – kinda worked
Plan E – Thundershirt – kinda worked
Plan F – Thundershirt and Xanax – kinda worked
Plan G – Thundershirt, Xanax, and the Mayor’s old kennel – hope it works
Well, after talking to my BFF who had a thunder phobic dog we are going to try the kennel route.
Last night was horrific! After talking to Janie (BFF) and hearing howl she had such luck with the kennel for her ATB dog Bo, Grandma and I are going for it.
As a side note, Janie rescued Bo as a pup on her honeymoon. It was right after Hurricane Hugo. Janie and her new husband were heading to the airport home from South Carolina when Janie spotted a drenched pup on the highway after Hugo. She directed the cab driver to pull over and “Bo” was in her lap within seconds. Bo was named Bo because the name of the road they were on was Bohickin, or something like that. Bo took the flight with her and her new husband home that day. Janie is convienced that Bo was storm phobic after living through Hurricane Hugo. I totally agree with her.
So, Grandma and I went down to the basement and retrieved Chaps old kennel.
Look at the Mayor! He is all…”What are you doing Grandma?”
Grandma explains to him that this is his “special storm place that has lots and lots of french fries in it!”
My BFF dropped off french fries for the Mayor and the easing in process…..
Here he goes into his old kennel to retrieve the treat. I have the kennel set up right across from the living room bed that we all sleep on.
The Mayor backs out with mild trepidation.
Then, we put his second favorite toy in the kennel and I laid the Thundershirt by the the door.
He is curious.
Just a few seconds ago a Tornado Watch was issued until 1:00am. Severe Thunderstorms loom large.
I have to do this for him, Emma and myself. Chaps has become a danger to himself by trying to climb. He has become a danger to Emma by climbing on her back. He has become a danger to me as well. He tries to climb over my head. If I am sitting on a couch, he wants to be on the back of the couch. Oh, it is a hot mess.
I don’t know what plan H would be……Drool for us please!
More loving, the not yet tested plan G later….Cat, Chaps and Emma
