Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and weekend lovers. Even though this was a short week it some howl seemed long to me. Maybe it was because there was no rushing to and fro for the holidays. Ahhhhhhhhh…..time to rest and rest we will!
More loving the weekend and pink blankees later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma
Rest well furiends!
No resting at the Doyle household. We got baths! Believe it or not but it’s 75 degrees and the sun is out. Perfect weather for a bath. So, I took the shampoo out there, hooked up the water hose and got the shower temp just right. Then I turned around and all the houndies were in the living room looking at me like, “don’t you dare.” Of course they weighed 200 pounds when trying to get them out the door. So, I had to coax them outside with a cookie. Then they all went to the other side of the house and hid. But, we finally got a bath and we smell so good and we’re soooo soft!
Cindy – I so need your help in bassethoundtown. I must come up with a better bathing routine.
Oh Cat, I’d love to help you out in bassethoundtown but we don’t have a good routine either. Bathing short legged bassets is soooo back breaking so they don’t get bathed near enough. I have the hardest time straightening up after washing each hound. I really should rig up something so that I don’t have to bend down but haven’t figured out something that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.
When I bathe Slinky, I use the hand shower in my second bathroom. Slinky has whined, howled, cried and barked to the point that the neighbors have knocked on my door wondering whatever is a matter with Slinky. Sometime, I just take her to a groomer instead. Slinky always gets indulged with some of her favorite treats after her ordeal, but ultimately within a few days she’ll roll in pile of leaves or some mud and it’s here we go again.
MandS – My problem is I cannot lift Chaps or Emma into the tub. They are too heavy for me. I would love to be able to do that. I just cannot come up with a good plan.
Bring them over – we have a walk in bathroom shower in the basement and a shower head with a flexible hose. Our system works well as Rick is in the shower with the hound and he mans the hose. I kneel on the floor outside the shower and lather them with shampoo. They are in the unfinished side of the basement so I can dry them and they can shake. The door to the outside is there too! This works really well and they don’t mind too much.
Judy – you are so sweet. Thank you so much. Mom and I have been giving them sponge baths every other day. Just to get a handle on it. We might take you up on that wonderful offer! hehehe
