Basically no winter but spring has really sprung up early!

March 2nd, 2012 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Spring Lovers….I did a blog yesterday about Spring coming in like a lamb but today it was a pride of lions.  WOW!  All I can say is WOW!

We sure hope this is not a sign of our spring to come.

Here is Grandma with the kids in the storm stair well leading to the basement.

Of course, the Mayor threw up from stress but Emma did perfect.  Wade has been working hard on this area to make room for us to sit and boy o boy he finished it right in time.

Looks nice huh?  I sit on that step and the kids are between Grandma and I.  I didn’t realize howl handy those mop and brooms hooks could be!

All light heartiness aside, we are scared.  Last year was bad but we are worried about this year.

Anticipating this I bought a NOAA Weather Radio, several big flash lights, and much more.

I was doing some tweeting while we were in the hall and one of my followers from England said that the BBC was reporting about the northern KY tornados at that very moment.  Wow, that was something to read about while we were sipping a bit of wine in the storm shelter.

OK, well we are hoping for the best this storm season.  Get prepared and do tornado drills with your families.  We do them all the time.  All times of the day are different and you have to act calmly and quickly.

More hoping we are all safe later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Hi Cat- What kind of NOAA weather radio did you get?? I need to get one. I live in west Mi & we are expecting a very stormy spring & summer. We had a small thunderstorm around dinner time & my dog Ollie hid in the bathroom. He doent shake or anything just sleeps by the clothes hamper. When it storms bad we had downstairs. Take care. We bought this one at Lowes. I worked with it today and I like it so far. They are not cheap! This one cost us about 50 bucks. It does not come with the electrical plug in thing. AAA batteries are what we use. I bought extra and keep them next to the radio. You can turn the alert button on and when your area gets an alert it comes on automatically. You can keep it by your bed. I have cable and it works in the same way but if the electric goes out you are lost. Again, so far, like this radio.

It was indeed a wild ride in basset hound town yesterday. We were so fortunate that the tornado’s missed us because they sure were close in both Ky. and Ohio. I feel so bad for those who lost their homes and so many lives. At least you and grandma were safe with the kids, your radio and a glass of wine! Way to ride out the storm!!

How scary! I’ve been watching the news and seeing all the devastation. I’m glad basset hound town escaped the tornadoes but feel so sorry for the one’s who were hit.

That is so good that you practice with the kids going in to the basement. That way it doesn’t seem so unusual and scary when you have to use it for real.

Stay safe! I hope the storms stay away.

I just noticed the wine glass hanging on the hook. Looks like you’ve got some extra hooks for more wine glasses!

Cindy – necessity is the Mother of invention. In a rush I clipped my wine glass there and we got a big laugh at a rather scary time. It is so frightening when those sirens go off and Chaps is shaking so hard he looks like a blur. Yesterday on the news we heard a story of 2 men trying to hold on to their 100 pound dog as it was being swept out of their basement. They said it took every bit of their mite to hang on but they were able to do it.

Oh wow. I could not imagine being in that situation and not being able to hold on. I’d go through life blaming myself the whole time. Thank doG they were able to hold on to that baby.

Hi Cat, and “family”! So happy to hear you all came out unscathed from the recent terrible weather. I used to worry about my son James in Virginia, but I don’t have to any more because he’s here living with us because he lost his job. So now all my thoughts go to you, your Mom and the “kids”. I sure hope this all isn’t a sign for a prolonged string of bad weather for you this spring. That is just tooooooo much for ANY Basset or his family to bear! So I’m sending happy thoughts to you all and happy thoughts too for Emma’s liver to behave itself and not cause any more trouble than it already has!! She’s a real trooper and a beautiful girl who doesn’t deserve any more problems than the ones that have already been given to her!!
Take care, and don’t forget to put an extra bottle of “vino” in the corner of your cellar stairway!!

So glad all is well at BHT. I was watching the radars and was relieved to see the line move east of BHT. One benefit to living this far north is that we have very little thunder, let alone severe weather (well, unless is snow is involved).

I can just picture the Mayor being a shaky blur – poor boy. How does Emma react to the thunder and sirens … any nervousness at all?

OM – Emma is the salt of the earth. He sits by grandma or I and does not move a paw. She is so good. Nothing bothers her. When it is teaming raining and horrible storms she sleeps right through it. Gosh…I love that about her.

What a sweet girl Emma is. Nice that only the Mayor panics, it would be so much worse if they both were afraid. She’s a precious girl!

I hope all is well, I saw some photos of the tornado’s wrath. I am glad you, your mom and the kids are well. I think you need to have more wine available for future emergencies.

Also, I hope you brought extra treats and toys to keep Chaps and Emma distracted.
