5:55am Saturday July the 28th – Chaps Rudert goes Belly UP!

July 28th, 2012 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Mayor Lovers…Well…as you can see from the title of this blog we had a belly up event in the early morning hours.  I thought I was dreaming.  Chaps woke me up moving around a little bit.  I started giving him a back rub and then the big guy went belly up!  I was so excited that I checked the exact time so I could report this to the residents!  5:55am!  We both fell back asleep and when we got up I could tell he felt sooooo much better.  I could see it in his eyes.  I told him, “Hi Mr. Delicious – I see I have my boy back”!

Grandma spent time over the past few days washing the office bed to see if he would get back in it.  He has not been interested in this bed since before Emma left us.  Here she is trying to coax him in….

He just would have none of it.  Very strange.  Here is howl the whole then ended up…

Grandma was trying to get his mind off his neck.  It started itching today.  That is probably good…we have always heard if, it itches it is healing….

This is the incision where the neck wart thing was removed.  We are trying to get air to it.

Well…he can reach it with the right back paw that we are trying to keep the sock on but it is proving hard.  He actually scratched it and drew a tiny bit a blood today.  Not good.

So we tried this technique suggested by Debbie. The double bandanna.  I absolutely loved it.

Then we added a thicker slipper sock.

HE HATED IT!  Himz cried and begged us to take it off.  He was actually talking to us and I swear I could tell what he was saying. He would look at Grandma and then he would look at me all the time slightly crying.

So, I took it all off.

The sock will go back on before bed.  It’s for his own good.

Tomorrow will start the 4th full day of healing and maybe another belly up!

More keeping that paw off the neck later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB

Poor baby, lots of kisses and belly rubs for him! As to the itchies, well what if you take a large size snood and put it on him with the ears hanging out. It would protect that area plus he could have it on while sleeping.

Anyway, it is soooooooooooooo good to see the Mayor getting back to himself and talking a great deal.

Kisses to your sweet boy and perhaps a “diamond” treat is in order. We love you ALL!

Great newsd that the Mayor went belly up. Hoping his incisions will heal quickly and he will feel 100% again very soon. Grandma needs a longer bed!!!

Gabrielle – We did try the snood thing and all sizes rubbed on the incision site. Plus we were afraid it would not get air, but in a few days I am going to try that again. Thank you!

Have you heard what that wart thing was?

I feel for the Mayor, you and your mother. When an animal is sick, you wish you could do more.
