It is always so soothing to go see Dr. Leick…..
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Dr. Leick Lovers…Well, we went to see him today. Chaps was all spit shinned and ready for his appointment!
Grandma had his x-rays, blood test results and his pathology report.
Dr. Leick read and looked at all of the material. We discussed in more detail what this all could mean. Dr. Leick did not seem to be as certain as the other doctors that the cancer had spread but he thought it was still a good idea to consult with the specialist regarding the outcome of the pathology report. Here is where we need to gather information and ask questions. Basically weigh Chaps options. If we proceed with the ultrasound we will know if there is an area that is compromised with cancer. Then we can think about the next step, if is there is one.
One step at a time.
So, we concentrated on trying to help the Mayor calm his storm phobia and relieve some of his pain from aging.
Dr. Leick proceeded with the acupuncture treatment. If you click on the picture you can see some of the needles. Chaps did so good. He just sat there, just like the picture shows and stayed so still. The woman holding Chaps must have kissed his head about 50 times. She is so wonderful. The needles stayed in for about 15 minutes and we discussed Chaps situation and his age. Chaps will be 12 October the 17th.
Dr. Leick reiterated that we just need to take one step at a time and not get too caught up in the step after the next step. Take a deep breath and just be a calming influence for Chaps and ourselves. We have our next appointment with Dr. Leick in 2 weeks.
Thursday Chaps gets his stitches out and then I will make a consultation appointment with the specialist. I did the same thing for Emma and then we went from there.
Deep breath…and a treat…..
More taking it one step at a time later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB
What this man said makes a lot of sense. I am so glad Chaps has him for treatment. He looked so calm and peaceful on the blue cushion, I would of kissed his head a hundred times! Pets and Hugs to the big guy!
good choice. really there is no other wise option…charging ahead with little information does you or the mayor no good. gather everything you can & proceed from there. acupuncture worked wonders on my friend’s big rottie brad. i am a believer in it. he found it very calming..brad let them work on him each time with no figiting or moving around or anything.
I think you have a good plan and this is probably what I would do too. I am not convinced about the cancer spreading either but it is best to see the specialist and hear the options. Chaps did so well today. Hugs to both of you.
What a good boy! Hayley had her acupuncture treatment on Monday. She is pretty good too. She stays still except for the needles that go in the front feet and fleshy underside of her hind legs. Love and Healing to Chaps!
What a refreshing visit. It sure helps to be told to take it one step at a time. I’m crazy with thinking ahead and not concentrating on today. A good lesson learned for me to work on. I do think that thinking ahead and preparing for the future is good but in this case, one step at a time is the best way.
Good luck Mayor Chaps! We love you!
This vet sounds sooooo good, I’m so glad you have him. I agree you just need to take it one step at a time. Having a consultation with the specialist will be best so you know exactly what’s going on. Praying nothing has spread & Chaps continues feeling fine & takin it one day at a time. Hugs & kisses to you. Colby Chaps is off to the vet this morning for his annual shots & check-up…..we will be weighing in to make sure he’s not losing weight since his boycott of food last month, but I’m certain he gained a few pounds because he’s been eating fine again 🙂
What a wonderful, he sounds like he’s right out of “All Creatures Great and Small”
Just love all the pictures BUT the last picture said it all!!! A treat for the most patient hound on this earth; AND was it a DIAMOND TREAT??? We love you ALL and please kiss that adorable boy and hugs to you and grandma!!!
Dear Basset lover
I lived in Panama, Central America, I have a wonderful 12 years Basset name Shazbat.
He is my dear companion, we go for long walks everyday of his 12 years. Last week he starts with a pain in his left shoulder and we are not walking anymore, only enought for his needs.
Can you tell me why did you do acupunture? it´s your dog in pain?. Shazbat’s vet is wonderful but he does not know acupunture…..more ideas?
Tomorrow we are going for x rays and a very complete phisical exam to see his body performance. He loves his daily walks…..
sincerely
mercha from Panama Canal, Central America
Yes, my Dog Chaps is in pain in his hips. The acupuncture seems to be helping with only a few visits. My regular vet said that he was in agreement with me taking Chaps to the acupuncture vet. Shazbat might really benefit. Our holistic vet has many elderly pets that come to his clinic. Do you have a human acupuncturist in your area? If so, please call them and see if they can refer you.
Also we have started Chaps on Dasaquin soft chews. http://www.nutramaxlabs.com/vet/products/Dasuquin-for-dogs.aspx
Both vets agree that it is the best product on the market for pain and joint relief. Please respond back and let me know how it goes tomorrow. I really want to see and hear that Shazbat is back to enjoying his walks. I know Chaps is. He is moving much better. Love, Cat and Chaps
