August 31st, 2012 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and new little friends lovers…

I told you that we were hoping to see little Gus today at the dog park.  We did!

ChapsGus

Gus’ Daddy was over on the other side talking but Gus ran over to say Hi to the Mayor.  It was so cute.

There were too many dogs coming and going so we just said HI and left.  The Mayor was ready to go smell another section of the park.  He is our leader!  hehehe

We will keep track of Gus because we really like himz.

Just wanted to share…

More making friends later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB

good. thats how friendships start..they get used to seeing each other..even if thru a fence. even if its crowded i always take my guys to the quiet end of the park away from the gate…just seems more relaxing..this might be something you can try with the mayor…it gets you in but away from the chaos. it’s amazing what a change it makes..by the gate everyone feel the need to be loud & proud…

its nice to see himz showing interest in another dog…someday????? maybe…

I agree Lois. He feels pretty good right now off to the side of the entrance but like in all walks of life many don’t abide by the rules of having your dog on a leash when entering and exiting. So the off leash dogs run to their cars and over to any dog in the area. It is kind of scary because I think some of them are pit bulls and we have a rule in Ft. Thomas against pit bulls. Do you have them in your dog park? They scare the living heck out of my Mom and I and I just back away if I see one and then call animal control. The pit bull community says “oh it’s the people who own them and not the poor pittie whittie” but I say for a pit not to fight would be like for a basset hound not to use it’s nose. I can honestly say, I HATE PIT BULLS. HATE, HATE, HATE! I could go on and on about this. I think the show Pit Bulls and Parolees has done so much harm. Tia, who runs the rescue was forced out of LA county and Animal Planet tried to move her to Tehachapi, CA without approval from the Town. After she moved in and tried to take it over they held a city meeting and voted 0 to 10 or something like that to have her removed along with her 200 pit bulls. Can you imagine living next door to her? Scary. So, the only place she could find to move was near the lower ninth ward of New Orleans. Basically she was allowed to take over an abandoned warehouse down by the river. Needless to say her and her pit bull pack floated away via Issac.

The message is clear but no one is listening. Animal Planet thinks it will make good TV, I guess. Very strange.

OK – I got off topic but…did I tell you howl much I hate Pit Bulls? HATE, HATE, HATE.

we do have many pit bulls & pit bull types at our park. some are very sweet, some not so much. many times it is the owner i find…they want a young “pit” type dog & then don’t neuter it or socialize it & then wonder why there are issues.

the issue in my park is the many large “manly” breeds that people get & then have no concept of what to do with them. they want a mastiff, a cane corso, pit, staffie, etc & then never train it & wonder why it is a terror. but that said there are also other breeds that are problems too. there are at least 5 pet stores thats ell dogs within 15 miles of me..so i get the first run of designer everything. i am up to my but in designer doodles, the new shar pei mixes (which do not have the great personality everyone claims) & every other mix that comes out of the mills. there are so many mill dogs at my park it is amazing.

the pits don’t scare me as much as the owners…i can usually tell which dog will be an issue…the intact ones, the snarling idiots trying to dominate everyone (pit, non-pit etc) but the owners..well ya can’t fix stupid. i don’t go near my park on the weekends if i have to. it’s when the non-dog park people usually come out.

find a set time & go then. usually the same people & dogs will be around..it’s safer & everyone feels more comfortable.

call the park management & let them know dogs are off lead etc. might help. i always drop a dime when things get bad. better safe than sorry..just make sure you don’t drag your bias into it..gotta be a legit compalint to be effective..no matter what you feel inside.

Great Advise Lois! I love all of your suggestions. I always liken dog parks to cultures with subcultures. What a great environment to dog and people watch. We love driving by and checking out everyone. Last news years eve my Mom and I drove past the park at dark and there was a party going on. Some of the dogs had on bright lit up collars and people brought snacks and booze. Everyone was having a hell of a time. It looked like a lot of fun and it confirmed my culture theory.

OMDawg, if I saw a Cane Corso I would run.

    Love your comment and suggestions.

When are you leaving on your trip? I can’t wait to hear all about it. Can you send pictures from the road? If so, please do and I will post them.

Love our Lois…Cat, Chaps and Emma in the Big Ugly! (I will update the residents later about that one!)

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU ON PITTIES. THEY ARE BANNED IN MY TOWN. ANOTHER THING I DON’T LIKE ARE ELECTRIC FENCES. FIVE YEARS AGO I WAS WALKING MY DOG & THIS LARGE BOXER BROKE THRU HIS ELECTRIC FENCE & ATTACKED US. MY HUSBAND WAS WITH US & GOT THE DOG AWAY FROM US. JUST TOO SCARRY. OLLIE WAS ONLY 1 YR AT THE TIME. TOOK A WHILE FOR HIM TO TRUST OTHER DOGS AGAIN. WE STAY AWAY FROM DOG PARKS FOR THAT REASON.

OK, I found it in the spam file for some reason. Have no idea why. Thanks goodness I found it! Thanks for your comment. I carry mace and I have a thick metal hook on the end of my leash. I will defend Chaps and myself and my Mom.

I think Gus impressed the other dogs by showing that he knows the Mayor.
