Covington, KY Licking Riverside Historic District with the Mayor – Chaps Rudert!

August 19th, 2012 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Riverwalk Lovers…

I have blogged about the Licking Riverside Historic District with the Mayor before but I have learned many, many times that there is always something new to explore even if you have been there before.  The Licking Riverwalk is in the Historic District of Covington, KY and if you are in this area you really should treat yourself to this wonderful experience.  If you live in this area, make no mistake about it – there is something different every time you visit.  This is a meandering stroll perfect for an afternoon outing.  The streets are tree lined and the sun streams though the leaves making it a perfect setting for professional photographers and bloggers a like.

Here we have old man river…(not Chaps, that guy reading the book;)

cov1

As we moved down the paver stone side street, under the shade trees, we came to the center of the statue park.  There is a large fountain and the Mayor had a large drink!

cov2

You may be wondering, what Chaps is looking at?  While we were in the center of the park we spotted 3 wedding photographers and 1 baby photographer.  All were coming to record the beauty of their event and the day.  I must say the Mayor looks quite fetching….I also love the park benches.

Here comes one of the brides!

cov3

The Mayor, being the dignitary he is, graciously moved from his resting post so the bride could move into position!  We hope her beautiful dress did not drag through the puddles we left behind;)

We offered the Mayor up as best man, but the bride was not amused.  She actually looked scared out of her mind.

cov4

Not done exploring the splendor we resting while soaking in the Roebling Suspension Bridge, prototype for the later Brooklyn Bridge.

photo 1

If you visit walk the entire block and see the large mansions that line the streets.  I thought this was a nice shot of Chaps and his Grandma….

photo 4

After we wrapped up our tour we headed home to our local pub and enjoyed some refreshments.  It worked out perfect because look where I parked.  I kept the car running with the AC on and the Mayor in the Basset Hauling Vehicle was never out of my sight.  Being the helicopter Mom I am, I even checked on him.

Say What?

August 18th, 2012 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Say What Lovers….

Chaps and I are a bit discombobulated today because we did not have very good sleep.  Chaps was restless with his jolting episodes.  We just cannot figure it out.  He jolts like there is a sharp quick fast pain.  He never yelps.  Have any of you ever experienced this type of behaviour ?

So confusing….

photo 2

I thought my favorite note pad was apropos for this morning’s blog….

photo 4

Too funny!

Well, it is a beautiful day in bassethoundtown.  Nice and cool.  Grandma and I call it “Dog weather”.  We are all going to go and get the stink blown off.

Have a great day and let me know if you have ever experienced what I call, jolting episodes.

Youtube find of the day…

August 17th, 2012 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and YouTube find of the day lovers…

I posted this video back in 2007.  Wow, seems so long ago.  I just ran across it again and wanted to re-post it.

I just love it!

Maybe you can enjoy it during lunch or on a break.  The music is so soothing.

More great finds later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB

Tomato Harvest with the Mayor!

August 15th, 2012 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Tomato Harvest Lovers…Yes, I only said tomato.  One tomato.  Keep in mind that it is August the 15th.  The plant we bought this year was billed as the only plant where you would have tomatoes by the 4th of July!

Anyway….

Here it is!  It starts in the barrel at the base of the bell and is tied to the top of the bell.

Here is a closer look….

We found the fountain of youth!

August 14th, 2012 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and fountain of youth lovers!  hehehe

Well, maybe not the fountain of youth but the Mayor sure seems younger now a days when we go to the park!

Grandma and I have been trying and trying to teach himz howl to drink from the dog fountain so we don’t have to spend 20 minutes filling up his water bag from the nozzle.

And feast your eyes on this!

ChapsMomfountain drinking

By George, I think he finally figured out this is fun!

photo 3

Don’t you just love these new fountains that were installed this year?  I think they are great!  Now the Mayor does as well.  He was so cute drinking out of it.

I had to share something that had me cracking up the other day.  I was in the bathroom at our other park and they have these same fountains.  I could hear a Mom outside yelling at her little boy.  It went something like this….

“Bobby, don’t spray the water from the fountain!”

now her voice is getting louder…

“Bobby, Bobby, don’t splash the water on your brother!”

now she is almost screaming..

“Bobby quit jumping on the fountain, get off the fountain Bobby!”

I thought Mommy was going to stroke out…as her pitch heightened to shrill….

“BOBBY DON’T DRINK OUT OF THAT SIDE IT IS FOR DOGS!!!”

I think I was crying tears of laughter when I exited the bathroom.

I think both Bobby and Mommy needed a nap.

Here is my perfect boy waiting for me.  Himz never gets yelled out.  See him looking at me?  I took a short power walk after Grandma did.

Nash of Hounds Haven Basset Hound Rescue still needs a home…Let’s help him!

August 12th, 2012 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Nash Lovers. Our Nash is still looking for his own home.

Some of  you will remember me blogging about Nash awhile back and howl I thought he looked so much like our Emma. I thought that he could even be related but Hound Haven has no idea.

Nash is almost 4 years old and currently is being fostered in Iowa by my friend Karin Smith.

NASH ON HOUND HAVEN WEBSITE

Well – Mr. Nash still needs a home and I want to help by doing another blog.  There was a flurry of activity on facebook for a short while but nothing panned out for our boy.

Nash4

He is in a wonderful foster home with Karin Smith but…he needs himz own home.

Karin states….

“Also a little more info, my houndies are very sweet and they don’t have a mean bone in their short stubby little bodies BUT I have three 2 year old hounds  and a 3 year old hound. SO I have a houseful of orneriness and shenanigans, they take each others toys and try to steal treats…..soooo naughty! Poor Nashy he knows they have the upper hand and I am always refereeing. He has started to do the low growl when he senses they are coming near him if he has a toy or treat.”

Mr. Nash the delicious hound doggie

Karin continues…

“Nash is NOT 100% housebroken. I attribute a lot of this to the fact that his entire world was turned upside down He now does bark at the backdoor but if I miss that he will potty in the house. I really think he used a doggie door, it looks like he is trying to find it when he goes to my back door to get outside.”

Nash2

“I have clicker trained him. I can’t find the stupid thing half the time and now can replicate the sound well enough that he comes to it.

He must have a fenced in yard.  He loves to sunbathe.”

Nash

“He walks great on a leash…”

Nash6

“Nash is my constant shadow and sleeps under my chair when I am on the computer.”

SillyBoy

“Himz loves his peeps! LOL!  Check him out as he sleeps with a wee bit of his tongue peeking out!”

Hound Haven is willing to consider placing Nash anywhere in the USA if that lucky person and Nash are a fit.

In the basset hound transport community we all know Jess’e Potts.

“She is the most fantastic transport person ever! So long as we can get a good vet reference and find someone who works with rescue to do a home visit he will get himz sweetness just about anywhere we find him a good home”.

I must show you a picture of foster Mom Karin and 2 of her babies! Just Darling…

Karin works tirelessly for Basset Hound Rescue and donates much of her time and art work for the cause.  I want to link her Etsy shop so you can take a look around.

THE ECLECTIC HOUNDS

Lastly, I would like to say that having a blind hound in your life will change your life for the the better and I quote myself….

“Wisdom does not take sight, it takes vision.  Vision can come from many places and mine came from a blind basset hound name Emma, aka Early Morning Misty Air.” –

LIFE IS GOOD IN BASSETHOUNDTOWN!

August 11th, 2012 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and life is good lovers…Yesterday we had the old stitches removed from our very own Mayor.

Here he is looking at them laying on the floor.  There is a little pile there but you really can’t see them.

Chaps can..

stitchesout

We took the Mayor home to rest up for his big day out today.

This is him at our local park.  You would not believe howl much fun we all had.  Actually we thought that Chaps would tucker out but the opposite held true.  He was like a hound of half his age, pulling, sniffing and rolling.

Joyfullife

After we walked triple the length we though he would, we had to FORCE him to rest.

This is the money shot of the day.

Moneyshot

After our rest we loaded up the basset hauling vehicle and went off to pick up lunch. Grandma and I decided that the Mayor was doing so good we were going to stay out all day!  The weather was great and the smells were many!

nextpark

Look at this wonderful picnic area we found at our next park which is also in Ft. Thomas.  It is called Tower Park and is about 5 minutes from the other park.  It is a wonderful place to explore.

We let the Mayor once again lead the way and he took us over to the VA hospital on site.  We visited with a few of  our Nations heroes.

VAPark

At the end of the day our big guy was finally ready to go home and have his dinner.

Then his evening nap.

This is what Grandma calls, “looking like a throw rug”.  Too funny….

I think the fresh air got to us all.  What a great day.

If anyone ever needed a St. Francis Medal for his Collar it is Chaps!

August 10th, 2012 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and St. Francis of Assisi (Patron St. of Animals) Lovers…

Today when we opened our mail we found the most beautiful and thoughtful gift for The Mayor from Karin Smith.  Karin and I are friends and as you might remember….she is the foster Mom of Nash.  The hound that needs a home and I think looks just like Emma….

Mr. Nash the delicious hound doggie

Look, what she sent to Chaps, it is a charm to add to his collar for protection and love.

photo 4

I think this St. Francis medal is stunning.

sf1

I added it to his collar immediately….

photo 1

Now we are off to the vet to have Chaps stitches removed and his swollen acupuncture site looked out. Look howl dapper the Mayor looks!

photo 3

St. Frances holds a special place in my heart.  I found our Lily on St. Francis Day back in 1994.  I named her Lily Pad Serina Francis Rudert.

This is the night I brought her home.  I remember that night so well.  I was getting ready to go to bed and I was wondering what she was going to do.  She didn’t seem the least bit confused like Chloe and I were.  Chloe jumped up in my bed and Lily followed right behind her.  I was like, OK….  Amazing.

img_7334

And one more St. Francis reference….

Chaps was invited years ago to a blessing of the animals on St. Francis day.

Here is a YouTube I did of it…..

Thank you Karin we love our medal.  Let’s find Nash that perfect home.  I know St. Francis is watching out over him as well.

I will be doing some more blogging about Nash this weekend.  I will have more pictures and links to his adoption application.  Himz ready for his own couch!

More loving protection later….Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB

Well…the stitches did not come out today…

August 9th, 2012 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and stitches out lovers…Well…

We decided not to make the journey to the vet today with our Mayor.  He woke up this morning totally and utterly exhausted from his acupuncture treatment on Tuesday.  Dr. Leick said that this could happen due to the release of energy and lots of other stuff that I just don’t get.

So, we kept him home and let him relax.  Poor thing scared us with his extreme lethargy.

He perked up a little bit when Grandma came down to check on him.

mayorgm

Grandma noticed that his front right area was swollen and she remembered that he yelped a little bit when that needle went in.  I called Dr. Leick and he said to put warm compresses with Epsom salts on it to reduce the swelling.  Of course this reaction is rare but with the Mayor rare is normal.

photo

Hindsight is 20/20 and maybe his acupuncture treatment was too much for him too soon.

Tomorrow is new day and we will move towards getting him to the vet for his stitch removal.

It was a stressful day but something Grandma and I can handle.  Oh, and to top it off…we had a thunder storm. Lovely…

OK – tomorrow is going to be better!

More better tomorrows later…Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB
