hopraffle

Yes, it is that time of the year again and the House of Puddles has one of their famous raffles going. The Spring Raffle ends tomorrow, Friday the 13th so get lucky and buy some tickets before it is too late!

Well, does anyone remember when my Mom and I went to the BHCA Nationals back in October?  If you do, you also recall we hosted a HOP booth where 100% of all money made went to the elders.

Not everything sold so we asked Marilyn if we could put together a collection of things for her Spring Raffle.  There is some really cool stuff as you can see!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Good Friday Lovers!  As in….Lover Come Back!  OMDawg, this is the best movie ever.  Mad Men has nothing on this movie!

But prior to tuning in I must get my own Mad Man in order…

Scrambled eggs in his dinner
Cyst cleaned with warm compresses and Neosporin applied
A dab of eye medicine in each eye
One tablet of Culturelle for his digestive system
One baby aspirin for his arthritis
One Glucosamine and Chondrotin for his arthritis
One Pepcide AC for his acid reflux
Coconut oil rubbed on his neck for his tiny hot spot
A warm rag to clean his face
A non salted french fry, or 3, as a treat
His pillow fluffed

And down he went for his early evening nap with Emma.  (Her list is just as long but she is not a Mad Man.  She is the Doris Day type.  Strong and Beautiful!)

Lovers come back!

Emma has a paddy gut!

April 4th, 2012 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and paddy gut lovers!!!

Well, I thought I would update the residents about our Emma.  Remember she had the elevated liver enzymes?  I have not have them re-tested but she is eating good and some may say a little too good!  My sister, her liver physician, wanted her to gain a few pounds.

We are proud to report at her vet visit a few days ago, she has gained 3 pounds!  hehehe

photo 2

I sent this picture to her Grandma tonight and she said, “looks like her gut is over taking her paddy”!

Howl funny…

Emma is taking her liver supplements and eating her liver food.  She is such a good little liver girl.

More loving a paddy gut later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

April 3rd, 2012 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and tulip lovers…..

Last year we planted a batch of tulips in our front yard and frankly, I forgot all about them.  About a week ago I walked over to see what was growing and I was so excited!  OMDawg!  We planted tulips!  Don’t cha just love a spring surprise?

photo 5_2

Here is howl they look if you are standing in front of our home and looking at the street.

You can see Grandpa’s Rose of Sharon Tree is doing nicely as well…..

I was cracking up because one of the bags of tulip bulbs we bought also had some daffodils and hyacinths mixed in.  You can see it to the right of the picture.  Just another spring surprise!

Well? Did we all turn over our Sr. Hounds Abound Calendar today?

April 1st, 2012 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Sr. Hounds Abound Lovers….

We woke up this morning and I was so anxious to turn over our SHA calendar!  First off I made an eggtra special egg casserole!  I call it Eggcited for Emma in April!

photo 2

6 eggs, quarter cup of whole whipping cream, 1/4 cup of butter (or whatever you want to use), 4 thick slices of whole clove garlic bread chopped up and 4 thick slices of Vermont White Cheddar Cheese.  Add hot sauce after you give a tiny little bit to your hounds.

Emma entered the kitchen just as I was pulling it out of the oven set at 350 and baked about about 45 minutes or whenever you think it is done.

Emma’s timing is perfection, just like her!

See the Calendar?  Thank you everyone who voted for Emma and paid a dollar each time.  I really cannot thank you enough.  We are so proud our girl made the cut and was able to get her birthday month.  She came in 2nd for the top number of votes.

I told Grandma that today starts our month long celebration of her birthday!  hehehe

More eggtra love for Shimlette later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. – I just received an e-mail from Wendie at Sr. Hounds Abound.  She wants a short bio regarding Miss April to go out in her newsletter.  A short bio…..hummmmmm…….

OK, here goes.  I am going to compose it right now, right here as a part of this blog.

EMMA WANDA RUDERT……APRIL 2012

Cat and Hilda Rudert belong to Emma who will be 8 years old this April 21, 2012.  Emma came in second for the amount of votes to win a month for this year’s Sr. Hounds Abound Calendar contest.  She, along with many Bassethoundtown residents, helped to raise money for elderly basset hounds at this wonderful retirement home in Florida.  We are all very proud to support the efforts of those who care for the elderly.

Emma, as you can see, is blind.  She has been blind since she was 3 from primary glaucoma.  Glaucoma does not define Emma but she is an inspiration to so many folks who read her blog.  She receives hundreds of e-mails thanking her for her wisdom and advise.  Together with Emma, Grandma and I will research this disease in an effort to help all of Emma’s friends and followers via the bassethoundtown.com blog.

Lastly, Emma is proud to have achieved the title of Senior Basset Hound.  She will represent April with her usual dignity and grace. Her Mom (Cat Rudert) and Grandma (Hilda Wanda Rudert) are overwhelmed with joy to have her in our lives.

I wonder if Penny will remember Daddy? hehehe

March 29th, 2012 - 10:10 am KY Time

What a wonderful welcome…

More hoping there are many wonderful greetings to come soon for all of the soldiers….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Meet Big Barney, the hopeful homeless hound in Hardinsville, KY:)

March 28th, 2012 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Homeless Hound Lovers….All signs are pointing towards Big Barney being just fine.

Yesterday I was contacted by my friend and fellow basset hound rescuer, Helena.  LOVE HER!

She told me about Barney and wanted me to check him out.

Barney

Check him out I did.  I called the shelter as soon as it opened and talked to Tommy the Animal Control Officer.  What a wonderful man.  We had such a nice chat.  He said that he would not let anything bad happen to Big Barney and was in fact networking him, himself!

Tommy picks dogs to showcase to the little local paper and had Big Barney on the list to be featured.  The newspaper lady was coming today.

Tommy also told me that if Big Barney does not find his owner he has a woman who was interested in pulling him.  If that woman does not pull him, he has a rescue interested in himz.

Tommy also told me that normally he has no problem placing bassets….because, he said…..”Just look at their faces”.  That was so sweet.  I even welled up a bit.  What a nice man.

More loving Tommy and Big Barney later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. I asked Tommy if it was OK to check back on Tuesday and he said, “Barney would like that”.

Facebook find of the day – “Sleeping arrangements”;)

March 28th, 2012 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Sleeping Arrangement Lovers…..I found this on face book and I am just not sure who to give credit to.  Again, it was in a different language and passed around through my Italian “friends”.  Anyway, glad to see that hounds hog the bed in Italy as well as the good ole USA!

Chaps likes a pillow but Emma lays at the bottom of the bed in her comfort corner….

Choking basset hound saves its own life by dialing 999

March 27th, 2012 - 11:11 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and very scary story lovers (has a good ending)…

911-1

Clever canine … George the Basset Hound dialed 999

COPS who raced to a house after hearing desperate heavy breathing during an emergency call found a DOG had rung 999 while strangling itself with the telephone wire.

George, the two-year-old Basset Hound, had knocked the phone to the floor and got entangled in the wire — winding it round his neck.

And he panicked so much he incredibly managed to ring 999 as he pawed at the phone trying to free himself.

The emergency operator alerted police who dashed to the empty home of driving instructor Steve Brown and his daughter Lydia, 18 on Saturday night.

They were preparing to smash down the door when a family friend from a nearby house ran out with a key to let them in.

Four officers sprinted through the house in South Hiendley, West Yorkshire, searching the rooms.

911-2

Pals … George and owner Lydia

And then neighbour Paul Walker walked into the living room and found terrified George choking — with the phone lead wound tightly round his neck.

Paul, 41, ripped the phone apart to wrench the wire from George’s throat.

He said: “The police split up and ran through the house thinking someone had either been attacked or was desperately ill.

“I went to look round as well and walked into this room and saw George choking.

“He was absolutely terrified and could not free himself.

“I knew I had to get him free quickly so I just ripped the wire out.

“Incredibly you could see where his paw print was on the phone to ring 999 — he literally saved his own life.

“When the police came into the room and realised what had happened they burst out laughing.

“They told me they had been sent out because of a 999 call in which the operator could only hear heavy breathing and gasping.

“They thought someone had collapsed or been attacked.”

911-3

Lucky escape … George managed to paw the emergency number

Paul had been left a key by college student Lydia to feed George later in the evening while she went out to do an evening shift as a waitress.

Lydia said: “By the time I got back the police had gone and George was looking a little sorry for himself.

“It is just so lucky that his paw managed to ring 999 otherwise he would have died.

“We still don’t know how he managed it.

“It’s one of those old-fashioned phones with the dialling ring.

“He’s not usually very smart.

“He’s really dopey and just likes to chew socks.”

End of Story from the THE SUN – UK

Well I am sure this will go viral in the basset hound community.  It will show up everywhere from facebook, twitter, Daily Drool, and back again.  You can say you saw it hear first!

More reporting breaking news as it breaks…..

Love you George and stay away from the old time phone.  Mommy needs an IPhone!

More loving George later…Cat, Chaps and Emma
