Well…our first spring time walk did not go very well:(

March 13th, 2012 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and update lovers…We were all so excited about our first real walk of the Spring.  We set off with vim and vigor but it quickly turned out not so good.

Chaps clearly did not feel good.  He started eating grass about half way up the street.  He was out of breath and seemed in pain.  We turned right around and came home.

He was dragging by the time we entered the front door.

He walked right to the water dish and then to the cool tile bathroom floor.

Chapsbr

Grandma got some cool rags and I wiped him down.  He rested and did eat his dinner.

Here he is resting and licking his elderly paws.  Himz is 77.

Tomorrow we were going to take another walk but now we are going to take a drive instead.  We will let the kids gets some air.

More making sure the Mayor does not over extend himself later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Tomorrow will be 70ish degrees in bassethoundtown;)

March 12th, 2012 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and walking Basset Hound Lovers.  OMDawg it has been a month of Sundays since we had the kids out walking.  I am so excited about the weather tomorrow I hope I can sleep tonight.  We are going for our first walk in what seems like forever.  The kids need it so bad. We all do!

Basset hounds are not bears that hibernate.  It just is not right or a natural state.

Wake up Mayor…come out of your den!

Let’s shake this winter off and get our short legs moving!

I can’t wait until tomorrow!

More loving this spring later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S.  Wednesday looks promising as well.  I see a mini road trip…..I better get some sleep!  It is more than time to Spring forward!

Just a little update regarding the Mayor:)

March 10th, 2012 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Mayor lovers.  Well, I do think it was his back hurting him.  We can tell he has arthritis in his back.  I am sure keeping his weight down helps.

Anyway, himz feels better this morning and slept good.  He was first to the kitchen.  I just put him and Emma down for their morning naps.

Here he is saying….”I feel better Mommy!”

You look better big boy.  Mamma loves her Burger boy.

More reporting on every little detail later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Go with the flow….

March 9th, 2012 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Go with the Flow Lovers…Wow!  We woke up this morning and Chaps was just not himself.  He seemed confused and a bit unsteady.  After much observation it seemed that maybe he had pulled a muscle in his back.  He did not want to eat and was very slow and very pathetic.

Long story short…Grandma and I went outside to look at something in the front yard.  When we came back in I quickly smelled that Chaps had tinkled in the middle of our bed.  OMy, this was not on the list today.  What a major hassle.

Off we went to the laundromat with the goose down comforter that is too big for our machine.

photo 4

I quickly learned that my “list” was not near as daunting as the gal doing her laundry the bank of machines over.  Her name is Tornado Vivian.  This woman inspired us beyond belief.  She lost EVERYTHING material in the tornado that happened one week ago today.  EVERYTHING.  She lives a few towns over from us.

She talked non stop as we stood pie eyed.  “My farm house is flattened but we can still have a jam session tomorrow night.”  Vivian and her group jam with some awesome bluegrass musicians.  Vivian said, nothing matters to me except the fact I have my boyfriend and my 2 dogs alive and well.  She even invited us to the bon fire and jam session.  We will not go tomorrow night but I have a feeling we will go soon.  Vivian on May Street, California, KY.  Love her.

As we left the laundromat she was sitting on a bench and she had serious words of wisdom.  “Go with the flow and make sure you have good insurance.  Also make it to the basement quickly.”

A little tinkle on a comforter is one tiny twig in the acres of debris Vivian faces at her 28 acre farm. The only thing left was the basement of the barn they hunkered down in.

Meeting someone like Vivian really puts life in perspective.

More going with the flow later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. Chaps seems a bit better but I might give him a pain pill later…

YouTube find of the day. Soooo cute.

March 7th, 2012 - 10:10 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and YouTube find of the day lovers.  I thought this was soooooo cute.  I wonder what she is saying to the hound?  The hound seems to understand it all.

It is probably something about a treat.

I used to say to my Dad, “Look at Chaps looking at me with love in his eyes”, and my Dad would say, “I think that’s hunger”.  hehehe

More loving multilingual hounds later….Cat, Chaps and Emma

Let Mr. Chewy do the heavy lifting!

March 5th, 2012 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Mr. Chewy Lovers….Who is Mr. Chewy you might ask?

MR. CHEWY

mc

I received an e-mail last week from Mr. Chewy offering bassethoundtown a 50.00 coupon in exchange for a truthful and honest blog about my experience with their company. Very interesting! I went over and sniffed around their website and was pretty impressed.  Lots and lots of selections which includes not only Chaps food, but Emma’s Royal Canin prescription allergy diet formula.  Then the best part, free shipping for orders over 49 dollars.

Say no more! Let me try this service.  After all, the Mayor has done so much for others it is time for him to get a biscuit!

The Mayor looks on as his box of food and a special treat are delivered within paw steps of his food dish.

photo 5

We ordered online via the Mr. Chewy website and it was fast and simple.  I also enjoyed the function where you could chat with someone online while I was placing the order.  I ordered on a Thursday, received a confirmation that my ordered had shipped that same day and it arrived Saturday morning via Federal Express. SWEET!

photo 3

No trip to the pet food store, no dealing with the grouchy people who work there, no getting the hairy eyeball for asking for help out to my car, and no walking up and down the stairs bringing up the food in portions that I can carry. In short, no more hassle.

All in all Mr. Chewy was a wonderful experience!

photo 1

See that sausage roll thing?  It is a duck and potato roll.  I cut the Mayor off a piece. Emma was in a deep sleep.

photo 3

I will be ordering from Mr. Chewy again.  This is a service I have been looking for.  No more heavy lifting for me!

More blogging and honest reviews about Mr. Chewy later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Basically no winter but spring has really sprung up early!

March 2nd, 2012 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Spring Lovers….I did a blog yesterday about Spring coming in like a lamb but today it was a pride of lions.  WOW!  All I can say is WOW!

We sure hope this is not a sign of our spring to come.

Here is Grandma with the kids in the storm stair well leading to the basement.

photo 3

Of course, the Mayor threw up from stress but Emma did perfect.  Wade has been working hard on this area to make room for us to sit and boy o boy he finished it right in time.

photo 4

Looks nice huh?  I sit on that step and the kids are between Grandma and I.  I didn’t realize howl handy those mop and brooms hooks could be!

photo 5

All light heartiness aside, we are scared.  Last year was bad but we are worried about this year.

Anticipating this I bought a NOAA Weather Radio, several big flash lights, and much more.

I was doing some tweeting while we were in the hall and one of my followers from England said that the BBC was reporting about the northern KY tornados at that very moment.  Wow, that was something to read about while we were sipping a bit of wine in the storm shelter.

OK, well we are hoping for the best this storm season.  Get prepared and do tornado drills with your families.  We do them all the time.  All times of the day are different and you have to act calmly and quickly.

More hoping we are all safe later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Chaps, on the job. A man’s work is never done!

March 2nd, 2012 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and on the job lovers.  Well, Chaps being the man of the house, has been helping Wade with some jobs on my list.  One of the jobs is re-painting my hallway.  When Emma was a baby I would keep her in the hallway when I ran errands.  She promptly chewed all of the baseboards and scratched all of the doors.  I figured since she is now almost 8, I would have that all spruced up.  (It’s about time).   Plus there is slobber about basset hound high all down the hall way.  I think most of the paint has worn off from trying to clean it.

photo 3

Chaps loves to help and has been assisting Wade for days.  He lays and watches every paint stroke.  He also worries about it.

Wade had another job to go to today but the Mayor was reporting for work duty on time.

photo 4

I thought he was so cute this morning.  Himz never lays in the hallway and I know for a fact he was waiting for Wade.

The Mayor is a great supervisor.  He is currently supervising Emma sleeping.

More extolling the greatness of the Mayor later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

March comes in like a flock of lambs…

March 1st, 2012 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Flock of Lambs Lovers.  This morning it was bright and sunny, a bit windy, but just beautiful.  The Mayor went out and much to his surprise he had to tend to his flock. March was coming in like a bunch of lambs!

bhtilal

As soon as they saw him they formed a heart in the background.

Later in morning I put my Itunes on shuffle as I was tending to Emma, our own little lamb, and this song came on first.  It might be one of my favorites of all time and oh howl so fitting.

So Serene and Peaceful.  Just like today.

Tomorrow we might not be as lucky.  March is setting up to be a ruff one.  Tomorrow especially.

But today, we enjoy Gustavo Santaolalla and his musical genius.

More hoping for lamb weather as much as possible!  Love, Cat, Chaps and little lamb chop!
