Gerber Queen weighs in at 40 pounds today!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Gerber Queen Lovers…Today we took our Baby Mayor to the vet for several reasons.  First off, I want her to get used to having her paws and ears handled by her vet.  She needed her nails clipped and her ears cleaned.  Her ears were PERFECT  but she had them looked at to get her used to this.

But there was another reason we took her to be checked out.  Poor kid has had really soft stools since we adopted her.  What is going on?  I can’t have this.  Her stool sample was fine today.

I have tried pumpkin, green beans, yogurt and a diet change. What is going on?  She is gaining weight and is active as active can be!

Well…we will keep trying to figure this out and in the mean time off to the park!

Mayor Daisy is filling out and will have a nice svelte figure.

When Slinky has had loose bowels, I have given her some cheese and also peanut butter and it has help the stools become more solid.

I am a firm believer in lamb and rice dog food. If Daisy’s problem is food related I would try this because it is digestible and we have never any problems with it. Good luck Cat – it is hard enough to train a basset puppy without the extra problem Daisy has!

Well, heck. Sounds to me like you’ve tried everything I know of. Green beans helped Rugs. I discovered that by accident. He always had soft stools and I started them on green beans as a diet and shortly after that, his stools hardened up some. They were never as hard as I felt they should be but at least it wasn’t a puddle when he pooped. It had some form to it. Sorry for being so graphic!

As long as her tests check out, it may just be the way she is. Or, maybe during her growing stage this will happen?

Judy – I have her on lamb and rice now and have since we delivered the fliers and you suggested it. This is what Chaps was on and he loved it and did wonderful on it. I never had this problem with any other hound that I can think of. I asked Dr. Doan about, could it be a puppy thing, and he said, “no”. So, after a few days I should be able to tell if it is a bug that does not show up in her stool because this powder will cure that. If not, then I am going to switch food again to see if I can find one that suits both of us! LOL

I believe in the lamb & rice food too. I buy one by Nutro Natural Choice & my dogs have done good on it. I use dry food. I will add veegies, or rice & chicken to it at times. When my one dog had a stomach bug we did rice & boiled chicken. Sometimes when dogs have runny stools it is just them & it is hard to figure out. Especially if it doesn’t last long or on going.

Thanks to everyone who is trying to help me with the poo poo problem. I am open to any and all suggestions.

If the lamb and rice don’t help I would try giving her a pepto bismal tablet – like you would a pill – I put it in a piece of cheese before she eats. I would then take her off all dry food and give her boiled hamburger mixed with cottage cheese for a few days. Gradually add the dry food into the hamburger mixture adding more at each feeding. This is what our vet has us do if we have an upset tummy. If this don’t work then I am out of ideas!! Good luck.
