We had to take Baby Cakes to the vet today for an abrasion on her tender pink puppy paw!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and tender puppy paw lovers…Poor Gerber Queen.  She has been licking her back left paw for about a week or so.  Not obsessively but enough for me to notice.  Every time I looked, I could see nothing…until yesterday when Grandma and I saw it was swollen, red and had a few little blisters.  So, we took her to the vet today and got some ointment.

Of course when I applied it she started licking it pronto.  I grabbed one of my socks and took the bandanna off my head and did a MacGyver.

She was very tired and fell back to sleep.

I had to share with the residents…

No walking for us until it heals.  She may have scrapped it on one of our walks.  Pink puppy pads are very tender…

More hoping for fast healing later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB sending healing vibes)

Oh Poor baby girl. Yes, those puppy paws have to acquire some callouses. It won’t take long as much as you walk her. Watch out for the hot concrete in the summer time. That can blister. I hope she gets well soon.

Yes, the pads are still very soft and so cute. I will miss them when they callous over. Grandma and I try to keep her in the grass as much as possible and we always feel the concrete with our bare hands before we let her walk on it. The abrasion already looks better this morning so we are happy about that!!! – No walking for at least a few days and then only on the park grass!

Cat – at pet stores you can buy something called “Musher’s Wax”. It is a wax that this put on the paws to prevent this. They use it at doggy daycare all the time, especially for the newbies whose paws are still soft. It protects the pasw from the rocks, cement and the rubber mats inside. It also works in the winter to prevent sidewalk salt from sticking to paws.

Poor Daisy Baby…..I hope her paw heals up soon. I do love those soft pink paws! Summer officially started for us today. Last day of school….. A baby deer squeezed through the fence and Abby chased it all over the yard until it squeezed out of the fence again. Then your granddog Colby Chaps ate a rabbit. He ‘stubbled’ upon a rabbit nest and here he comes running to be with rabbit in mouth. I tried to take it away from him, but ugh, this is a family website so I won’t go into detail. Chaps’s son is just a born hunter! At least the others got away….I found the nest and it was still very warm so I guess they were old enough to leave….. Now, let’s hope he doesn’t get sick….I’ll be on Mommy watch tonight.
