Daisy Lynn and I felt the most delicious breeze this morning!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Delicious Breeze Lovers…This morning Daisy Lynn and I took off early before the heat set in. Nonetheless, the air was very close this morning .
Daisy Lynn was in ultra smelling mood all the way to the park which made for a slow start.
But when we did make it, Daisy Lynn rushed over hill and dale!
See the pink dot? That is where we started. We picked to walk in the grass instead of the sidewalk.
Whew…we were both hot and beat as we hit the shade trees.
Then it happened…the most delicious breeze. Almost like fall was trying to creep in.
We must go see if our breeze is there tomorrow!
More loving the cool things in life later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB sending us a rainbow air)
It was very warm today but the clouds kept some of the heat away. I felt a breeze all day on our porch and it was wonderful. I do believe fall is just around the corner but we need rain very soon. The farmers almanac says we are in for a frigid winter!! Guess we shall wait and see.
Sounds like a great way to start the day!
Well, we went back to feel our breeze today and it was not good! Daisy Lynn almost was attacked by a vicious mix breed terrier (terrorior) that was about the size of a fat corgi. He was on one of those retractable leashes which I abhor. Those things are dangerous and when used with a vicious dog the combination can result in tragic ways. Of course this woman was totally ignoring her dog as she talked away on her cell phone. The brat dog took one look at Daisy Lynn and charged like a maniac. The plastic thing that these leashes have to hold on to are clunky and if your hand is sweating it can slip right out. I made a nano second assessment of the situation and decided I could either kick the bully or hit it with my purse. I also carry mace. The woman was apologetic but I told her, “those leashes are so dangerous”. She went on her way but gave me a dirty look. Come on!!! You have a vicious dog on a 16 foot leash, you are talking on the phone and you can’t hang on to your dog. I wish I could have said what I wanted to say but I led Daisy Lynn away explaining to her that she will meet all kinds of bullies in life. Maybe she learned something. Maybe that mean dog let off some kind of scent that she will recognize in the future and steer clear. That lady had to know that she had a vicious dog and she did nothing to help the situation. I can speak from experience. I knew that Chaps would drop another dog like a bag of dirt if I did not take control of the situation. I would hold him back, turn him away, and cross the street if necessary. I would go down drive ways and I was 100% always on alert when I was walking him. If anyone with a dog would try to come towards us I would warn them with my palm facing them. “My dog does not like other dogs. Please stay away.” I have blogged before about the yellow dog project that is trying to start a campaign to alert others that a dog wearing a yellow ribbon should not be approached. Not only because of antisocial behavior but because of an injury or maybe in training or maybe blind or deaf.

If any dog needed a yellow ribbon it was that park bully with his clueless owner. I would have gladly put a yellow ribbon on Chaps collar.
So much for our delicious breeze.
What a difference a day makes.
Daisy Lynn is fine – Mommy is calming down…..
When those retractable leashes came out I thought they were so cool. They’re colorful and look so neat and the leash is hidden and you and your dog don’t have to trip over the thing when your trying to maneouver around stuff. But then I got involved with rescue and realized what a danger they can be. I still have the first 2 I bought hanging in my garage as I got them for Jethro and Rugs. But we only used them maybe twice. I don’t want to give them to anyone cuz I don’t feel like they should be used either. Maybe I’ll just throw them in the trash.
Anyhowl! We are glad that Daisy Lynn is fine and hopefully that lady will keep better control of her out of control dog.
I’m glad that you had a good day yesterday. Keep that memory and discard today’s event. Easy for me to say huh?
I know Cindy – I can’t believe that they are still on the market. Also, if you use one with your hound I am not saying you are a bad hound walker. I just think they are a danger and 9 time out of 10 all the dogs that are around each other get all tangled up in the retractable dog’s leash. I am a firm believer that when walking a dog one should always loop the end loop around the wrist and then when another dog is in the area hold the leash with both hands. You can’t do that with that clunky plastic thing that contains the retractable device. Almost all, if not all waddles do not allow them. The lady in the park did not have the devise locked so bully the terror dog took off at full speed for the entire length of the lead and proceeded to tug it from her hand. You just can’t hang on to those things. Anyway….If you use one please be careful. Most bassets are very sweet and if yours is at the end of it and a dog attacks you will be at an extreme disadvantage getting to your hound to help it. I agree with you Cindy – I would just pitch the ones you have.
I agree with you about those retractable leashes. People recommend them to me, but I always felt I had more control with my plain old 6 ft. leather leash. I am glad no one was hurt.
Oh, Cat… What a scare! Poor, poor you and Daisy Lynn. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have dogs at all… We’re so glad you are okay. xoxo
I don’t like those retractable leashes either. We had a run in with someone who was using one & not caring or watching where their dog was going. Another thing I don’t care for are electric fences. The dog that attacked Ollie & me broke thru one that was around his yard as we walked. That was really scary for both of us. So glad you & Daisy Lynn are fine!
Sandy – I am not a fan of electric fences either. Mean dogs can break out and mean dogs can wander right in to those sweet ones that have the electric collars on. You may have the sweetest dogs ever but that does not protect them from the idiot dogs that charge in. I like the good old fashion fences.
Amen with the fences! If someone is so hung up on the fence taking away the beauty of their yard, they shouldn’t have a dog.
I thought the main reason to walk your dog was to BOND with the dog and give them and yourself EXCERSIZE !! NOT TO YAK ON THE PHONE, being oblivious to what your dog is doing on the end of that stupid retractable leash !!! They should be outlawed. Everyone should be able to bring them back to their place of purchase, and receive a free regular leash you car wrap around your wrist to take control of any situation. Just my opinion.
OMDawg! I was just on my facebook feed and guess what showed up?
