Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Rugby Doyle Lovers….

Long time resident and great friend, Cindy Doyle sent her beloved Rugs over the bridge on January 21, 2013 due to complications from bloat.  I asked her write an obituary and I would post it in the town blog.

Rugby Cobb Doyle, long time resident of bassethoundtown, June 1999 to January 21, 2013

Rugby, aka Rugs or Ruggie was rescued by Lone Star Basset Hound Rescue in Houston and fostered by the Cobb family.  He came to rescue in awful shape.  He had mange so bad that he was almost hairless.  He also had heart worms and every intestinal worm there was.  He must have been severely mistreated because he was very jumpy.  It got better through the years but he taught me how to close drawers, cabinets and the dishwasher door very quietly.  His foster family nurtured him to health which took a while, then were kind enough to let us adopt him and to be able to enjoy our lives with his very sweet soul.

Through the years Rugs went to many rescue events and helped raise money for homeless hounds.  He was always ready for a stroll in the parades and was a good kissing hound to raise a buck.  He didn’t care too much for costumes but was a real sport when we dressed him up.  He helped us to rehabilitate and rehome 8 foster hounds.  And he acquired 2 additional hound siblings along the way.  He was wonderful with children of all ages, even infants.  He loved playing with the foster hounds and making friends.  He was just perfect.  There will never be another Rugs.  We were very blessed to be able to spend 8 1/2 years of our lives with him.

Rugby never had an enemy and made more friends than I can count.  There’s a slogan I used to always say, “Everybody loves Rugs”.

We will miss you sweet boy.  I know everyone is going to love you at the rainbow bridge.  Until we meet again.

With all our love,
Cindy, Ronald, Jethro, Ozzie and Harriet.

RUGS COULD SAY, “I LOVE YOU”…

More loving Rugs Doyle later….Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB) roaming around showing Rugs where everything is.

Little Daisy Lynn is all tucked in and resting under Emma’s gully…

January 24th, 2013 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllow Fellow Basset Hound and all tucked in lovers…Well, our young Mayor is home and we are so glad.

I carried her up the back stairs, out to potty, and then she crawled into bed.

Grandma made sure she was covered up with the famous Emma gully.  Daisy was shivering a little bit and the Emma gully was the perfect answer.

I think we are in for a full night a rest and healing.

I am so glad that our girl is over this procedure.

Thank you residents for all of the well wishes for Little Baby Daisy Lynn.

More tip toeing around the town later…Love, Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB) loving the gully has now been passed down…

She is out of surgery, waking up and doing great! Whew….

January 24th, 2013 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and out of spay surgery lovers… WHEW…Gawd I hate waiting but today it was hardly any wait at all.  We were out the door at about 8:40 this morning.  I planted the customary lipstick kiss on the forehead for good luck.

Then she was signed in and she was first in line for her procedure.

See that picture behind her?  hehehe

Then she was whisked off down the hall.

An hour and a half later I got the call that she did great and was waking up!  Grandma are going to pick her up at 2:30 sharp!  The doctor said she was very, very close to going into heat.  If at all possible you want to spay prior to the first heat cycle to prevent the possibility of breast cancer.

I am just so happy she has this checked off her list.  Now we will get her all healed up and before you know it spring will be here with all it’s glory.

Thank you residents for holding our paws through all of this.

More loving getting her home later….Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB) sending healing drool…

We rescheduled the puppy play date…and an update!

January 23rd, 2013 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow basset hound and play date and update lovers…First off I will start with the update.  Our baby Daisy Lynn will be having her spay surgery tomorrow morning.  She is requesting that the residents sling some surgery drool for her as she checks this procedure off her health list.

We decided to reschedule the puppy play date due to a few things that came up today.  There was just not enough time today.  That’s OK!  Aunt Caryn (my sister) came over to meet our new Mayor!

Our play date will have to wait until Mayor Daisy heals from her spay.

Of course we will worry.  I am a huge worry wart but not as huge as the late Mayor Chaps;)

More getting tomorrow under our belt later…Love, Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB) knowing there is no need to worry…

Daisy Lynn has a big day tomorrow!

January 22nd, 2013 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Big Day Lovers…Tomorrow our very own Mayor Daisy Lynn will have a play date with Romeo and Enzo!  YES!

So, I tucked her into bed.  She is now sleeping in the big bed with me.  That took all of one night in the kennel.

Herz needs her beauty sleep!

Look out RoRo and Enzo – puppy energy comin’ at ya!

More looking forward to cousin dogs later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chap and Emma ATB) wishing her luck!

The results are in and we have our next Mayor for bassethoundtown!

January 21st, 2013 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and next Mayor lovers…Well, our little Daisy Lynn, with the full endorsement of the late Mayor Chaps Wayne Rudert will be the next Mayor of Bassethoundtown!

Howl ever, she has one more hoop to jump through and that is her medical clearance.

So off we went to get that squared away. Grandma of course offered moral support.

We all wish her only the best of health in her newly elected position of Mayor.

She passes with flying colors!!!

Grandma and I whisked her off to her inauguration ceremony which took place in the blue room.

Daisy Lynn is using her Grandma’s Bible given to Grandma from her Mother’s best friend, Ida back in 1956.  With her paw placed firmly on the family Bible, Daisy Lynn Rudert takes the Mayoral oath of bassethoundtown.

Tonight will be a flurry of activity as she greets her residents.  Daisy Lynn will be wearing a heavily beaded peacock velvet shaw loaned to her by her her Mother.  She will also be wearing a beautiful rhinestone collar that was left to her from Emma Wanda Rudert.

Daisy Lynn will have very big paw steps to follow and she will do so with benevolence and grace.  We all look forward to her life long position as Mayor of bassethoundtown.

Welcome Daisy Lynn.  We love you!

Much, much more to follow later….Love, Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB) beaming with pride!

January 20th, 2013 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Chilly Colby Chaps Lovers….Ahhhhhhh…my Granddog brings me such joy.  He is so handsome and now has the title of The Biggest Guy on Earth.  That is what I used to call his Daddy.

He looks so comfy and cute wrapped in the pink robe.

I Love You Colby Chaps…..Grandma Cat

More loving granddogs later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB) laying on pink robes…

Off to get a name tag for our Daisy Lynn!

January 20th, 2013 - 12:12 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and name tag lovers…Today, Grandma and I wanted to get Daisy Lynn a new name tag and practice riding in the basset hauling vehicle.  We had so much fun!

Here she comes!

Grandma sat in the back seat to show Daisy Lynn where to sit, stay and be safe.  Being a young pup she was more interested in looking out the window.  Grandma had a firm grip on her.

OMDawg – she was the hit of Petsmart and marched through there like a Queen!  She was so good and had so much fun greeting her public.  hehehe

First order of business – new tag.  The back has all of her information.  She had on Emma’s puppy collar.  it was so cute.

After meeting about 10 dogs and 20 kids we rested in the cat food area.  Whew…I was more worn out than her!

But she did crash in the car on the way home…

When we got home she ate her dinner and crawled into bed…

Name tag accomplished…Daisy Lynn Rudert!

More having a fun filled day later….Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB) howling, sleep sweet Daisy Lynn!

The naming of Daisy Lynn Rudert…

January 19th, 2013 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Daisy Lynn Lovers…Howl is everyone doing in bassethoundtown this fine Saturday morning?  I guess you can guess howl we are doing!  All bright eyed and bushy tailed!

Here we are potty training.  Daisy is in the ladies room and she is doing really good.  She loves this little spot.

She has been in and out about 40 times this morning!  hehehe

So, howl did Daisy Lynn get her name?  When she came from the other family she was named Chloe.  Of course, most of you know my second basset hound was named Chloe.

So, in my mind there cannot be another Chloe – aka Cholesterama young drama hound.  She was and will always be my one and only Chloe.

So, I asked Grandma to name the new pup.  Grandma named the famous Lily.  Well, it turns out that Grandma was thinking about naming Lily, Daisy but went with Lily because of her look.  So, still loving the name Daisy she went with it!  I had no idea that she was thinking about Daisy for Lily.  That made the name even more fitting for the pup!

Here is Grandma with Daisy yesterday.  I just look the look that Daisy is giving her…

Grandma always loved the name Daisy from the F. Scott Fitzgerald character, Daisy.  Ohhhh…I loved that movie.

Anyway, Grandma also picked the middle name Lynn.  That is my middle name and also Chloe’s middle name so it is very fitting.  Daisy Lynn Rudert.  I just love it and her!

Here she is laying on her puppy bed at my feet last night.  She is near perfect residents…

We will have to rent the Great Gatsby soon.  hehehe

More loving naming pups later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB) playing in the daisies…Oh, and Chloe saying, “nice job Grandma!”

Howl Daisy Lynn wound up in bassethoundtown!

January 17th, 2013 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and finding your way to bassethoundtown lovers…

Well, well, well…you just never know when a hound will find you.  Little Daisy Lynn did just that with my Mom and I.

As most of us know the basset hound demographic is a small world.  Through my extensive network of this demographic I was sent this picture.

Was this my hound, I wondered….

Well, never one to sit around and wonder I called the contact number.  It turns out there was a family in need of re-homing darling Chloe.

See that cute little boy?  He loved his hound beyond belief but there was a big problem.  Little 4 year old Jeremiah was allergic to the new family pup.  I felt so sorry for him and of course the entire family.

His sister Kenzie is holding their Chloe after they first got her.

So, the way cool Mom and I talked and talked and talked and decided that I would be the lucky one to adopt young Chloe.

This is Chloe in her bed at their home…who knew a jpeg could steal your heart?

After checking out our town the way cool entire family made a decision to let Grandma and I adopt her.

They were all beyond thrilled that their new young family member was going to be safe, sound, and loved for life.  I cannot thank them enough during their difficult decision.  Chloe was beyond loved and still is.

Kirstin (WCM) and I made sure the transition went exactly as each child wanted.  We moved quickly to insure a transition that was without as much pain as possible.

Goodbyes were said each in their own way…

Kellen the big brother…

A kiss for luck and she’s on her way!

From Denver to KY via Delta!  We were 2 hours early of course…

The wait was finally over…

Home sweet home….

The first toy she picked out of the pile….

Was the last toy that Chaps touched.

That meant the world to me….

More loving the little crazy toys and new friends in life later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB) resting after their Delta flight with little Daisy Lynn…

PS – coming up…howl Daisy Lynn got her new name!
