Extra Grainy Selfie!

November 4th, 2013 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hounds and Extra Grainy Selfie Lovers..

Daisy Lynn has a new “trick”!  She leaps up on the couch, crawls behind me, and lays on the arm.  I’m not proud but I did have my camera.

Grainyselfie

See her paw trying to keep me from getting her off the couch?  See that begging look in her eyes?

As we speak, Daisy Lynn is really wearing me down on this couch thing.

Autumn leaves us all falling back…

November 3rd, 2013 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Autumn Leaves us all Falling Back Lovers…

Yes, well the time change is upon us now.  The days are shorter and the evenings will be darker sooner in bassethoundtown.

Daisy Lynn’s clock listens to no time change.  So off we went then…

DaisyLynn10:31:2

The final days of fall are fleeting…

DaisyLynn10:31:1

So we had to get scooting!

DaisyLynn10:31:3

The days are shorter, but so are our legs!

Happy fall back day residents!

More loving an extra hour later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB laying in rainbow piles of leaves)

Dog Friendly Kentucky – with bassethoundtown! Part three – (Bluegrass Driving Tour)

November 1st, 2013 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Bluegrass Touring Lovers…Here we have the third and final part of our Bluegrass Driving Tour.  What a great trip and can you believe it was only an overnight???  It was a whirlwind of dog friendly fun, fun, fun!

After we left Keeneland we hit a few more of the 42 points of interest along the tour.  This place, called Post Castle, is within minutes of Keeneland.  This was someone’s dream that was never reached back in the 1960s.  It has been vacant over time but now it is owned by a Lexington Attorney named Post and he and his team have turned it into a hotel of sorts.

It doesn’t get the best review on TripAdvisor but we would never stay there anyway.  They don’t allow dogs!  (The nerve)

BGDTP2-5

The rumor when I was at UK was that Lee Majors was looking into buying it for Farrah Fawcett but… enter Ryan O’Neal.

We carried along our merry way past several more horse farms that were jaw droppingly beautiful. Horse barns the size of hotels.

Our next stop was at the Headly-Whitney Museum.  It was unfortunately closed on Tuesdays but this gives us another good reason to return soon.  This is a rare collection of distinctive Jewels and a Library on the scenic La Belle Farm. It is number 24 on the map and it is tucked away on the back roads of this tour.

As stated on the website…

“After nearly a decade of success on the West Coast, Headley returned to his family farm, La Belle, in Lexington and continued his career designing jewelry and bibelots. Bibelots (pronounced “bib-loh”) is French for knickknack or curio, and are small, ornate decorative objects of beauty rather than being functional pieces.

hwm

In 1960, Headley married Barbara Whitney Henry Peck (d. 1982), sister of noted thoroughbred horseman Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney (1899-1992) and daughter of the sculptor Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (d. 1942), founder of New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art.”

Just your average couple;)

Then it was off to the Kentucky Horse Park.  WOW!  We had such a great time.

BGDTP2-8

This place is huge and you actually need about a day if you want to linger through the entire place.  We could have seen more during our several hours but…..The Future Farmers of America were coming in by the bus load from all over the USA and Daisy Lynn seemed to be the main attraction!!!

This picture does not begin to show the slew of teenagers that were waiting in line to pet Daisy Lynn.  It was a bit overwhelming.  Daisy Lynn did not miss a beat.

BGDTP216

There were so many first for our young Mayor!

Check out these massive draft horses.  It was like Daisy Lynn was in a trance.  The sounds of their clip clops were so pretty.

BGDTP2-9

They had just left what they call the “Big Barn”, after getting groomed and harnessed up for a walk around the park.  We missed that but here is the barn!

BGDTP2-10

Now you see howl it gets the name!  This place was a clean as a whistle.

Then another first!  A young man in a 10 person golf cart pulled up and asked us if we wanted a ride over to the show, Horses of the World!

Daisy Lynn loaded right up between Grandma and I, white knuckling it around her.  Her ears were flying and people were pointing.  It was so much fun.

Look at Daisy Lynn’s favorite!

BGDTP2-17

We saved Man O War for the way out.  Considered one of the greatest horses of all times.

March 29, 1917 – Faraway Farm, November 1, 1947

BGDTP2-13

He is buried under this memorial which reflects his proud nature.

What a great trip!

We left for home and continued to listen to the audio book I bought for the ride.  It is 13 hours long so I have to get busy planning our next dog friendly road trip.

She Devil takes over bassethoundtown…

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and She Devil Lovers…

Mayor She Devil proclaims that there will only be extra treats and absolutely no tricks in bassethoundtown.

Dog Friendly Kentucky – with bassethoundtown! (Part two – Bluegrass Driving Tour)

October 30th, 2013 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Part two of our Bluegrass Driving Tour Lovers…I said that I was going to post more about the actual driving tour information in this post but I am going to do a separate post with all of that information.

I had researched this driving tour last year but it just did not work out.  It does take a fair amount of strategy to figure out the best route but I must say all the planning paid off.

This is a note to all who want to take the driving tour.  Keeneland Race Track is open the entire month of October.  Howl ever…they do not run on Mondays and Tuesdays.  This is why I planned our trip on these days.  We basically had Keeneland to ourselves and we could explore to our hearts content.  This is a beautiful track and really very stunning.

BGDTP2:1

We left Frankfort, KY very early so we could travel to the Keeneland Track Kitchen, about 30 minutes away.

Folks, this place is a little known treasure.  5 dollars for a down home KY breakfast.

BGDTP2-2

This is where the jockeys, trainers and owners of the fast paced fillies eat.  It is hard to find but just look for the big black water tower.  Also I found an address but I don’t know if it would show up on GPS.  4345 Track Kitchen Dr., Lexington KY.

BGDTP2-3

Plus, it meets our dog friendly dining requirements.  If you look right above my head you can see the basset hauling vehicle with the young Mayor inside taking her morning nap.

After a huge breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits with gravy, grits, apples and hot coffee,  we took our own walking/waddling tour. I am looking at the map for the walkers.

Dogs are allowed everywhere.  Since it was an off day for racing the folks were all so laid back with lingering warm greetings.  We heard more than once, “beautiful hound”!

BGDTP2-4

We could have stayed all day but the changing leaves wait for no hound!

0405picturei02

We left out of back gate lane and made a right on a country road that 2 cars cannot pass without slowing down and moving over.

See the fences on this back road picture?  All of the fences on the right are white and on the left black.  This was not explained and I could not find the answer why.

BGDTP2-14

Then around the corner an estate that some say inspired the look of Tara in Gone With the Wind.

BGDTP2-6

One more of the spectacular Winchester Farm.

BGDTP2-7

There are 42 points of interest on the Bluegrass Driving Tour and if you drive non stop to all of them it takes about 3 hours.  Of course, in bassethoundtown we do nothing non stop!  LOL!

Part Three – Daisy Lynn makes lots and lots of friends….

BGDTP2-12

More working on Part Three later…Love Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB loving Draft Horses;)

Dog Friendly Kentucky – with bassethoundtown! (Part one – Bluegrass Driving Tour)

October 29th, 2013 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Dog Friendly Kentucky Lovers…Part one of our leaf viewing trip via the Bluegrass Driving Tour was to Midway and Frankfort, KY.  These cities are considered Country Side Trips.

Grandma, Daisy Lynn and I drove to Midway and had a KY Hot Brown at Darlin’ Jean’s.  This was to be Daisy Lynn’s first time waiting in the car while we dined.

Midway1

We picked this day because the weather was a perfect 55 degrees for keeping Daisy Lynn in the car.

This place also met our other requirement.

Midway2

I have to see the car from my seat at the restaurant.  Check out the outside porch!  Dogs are allowed!  The star of this place…Hot Brown, not to mention Daisy Lynn – she did great except for some crying and barking for a few minutes.

There is so much to do in this area of KY.  We decided to veer off the Bluegrass Driving Tour and hit the bourbon trail for one stop.  Yes, dear readers, there is a wonderful trail for you bourbon lovers.  Buffalo Trace was on the way to our next stop in Frankfort.  What a cool place.  Daisy Lynn was a rock star!  Dogs are allowed and welcomed whole heartedly.

BT1

Daisy Lynn did a mini photo shoot for the distillery’s new dog section of their website!  I even bought a bottle as a gift for a friend of mine.  Do you know that this spirit can only be called bourbon if it is made in Kentucky?  All others must be called Whiskey.

BT2

We left and drove to the state Capital in Frankfort about 10 minutes away.  The Capital has a wonderful, wide, wrap around veranda around the entire building.

Cap1

The grounds are gorgeous!  Dogs are walking everywhere.  I stayed outside with Daisy Lynn and Grandma went in and looked around.  I was going to go in after her but they shut it down at 4:00pm???  Seems a bit early but it is well worth the trip back.

Cap2

Then we were ready to go to our Dog Friendly Hotel, always a nervous experience.  OMDAWG, OMDAWG!  The Capital Inn in Frankfort KY!!!

Look at the size of these connecting rooms!  Daisy Lynn was right at home with her Grandma and her Gully!

ON1

Daisy Lynn starting looking at the menu right away!

ON2

Now here is the best part.  Dogs are allowed right outside of the grill where we ordered dinner!  Look at this place!

Din1

This is the other side of the wall of glass fountain!

Din2

What a wonderful place to stay.  The Capital Inn is very affordable and they love dogs.  We were all thrilled!

More getting to part two later…Love Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB sending good vibes for the young Mayor)

PS – Soon I will be doing detailed reviews on Trip Adviser and Dog Friendly Kentucky for all of these places.  4 Paws Up!!!!

PPS – I will post more information about the Bluegrass Driving Tour Map in the next post.

Pepper – Butthole Surfers 1996

October 28th, 2013 - 1:01 pm KY Time

Howllo fellow music lovers – I have been very remiss with this section but some howl I don’t think folks are waiting with baited breath for what I download from I-Tunes.  hehehe

I download a lot of tunes while I am watching movies.  Songs that I have never heard before that kind of grab me.

This one did just that.  I was watching the Movie, Chasing Mavericks – which BTW is very good.  I need to put that in my movie section.  It was ON DEMAND – on one of those premium channels.

But here is the song I really liked…

A few updates about our very own Mayor Daisy Lynn Rudert!

October 26th, 2013 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and updates about the Baby Mayor Lovers…

First…Daisy Lynn now weighs in at 44.6 pounds!

Second…Daisy Lynn’s paws are 95% better.  Yes I said paws.  Turns out, all of her paws were scratched up.  One more than the others.  Her pads are still very soft even though we walk almost every day.  I guess, I do keep her in the grass for large parts of our walks.

Third…I am still brushing her teeth everyday.  Her vet was very impressed!

Fourth…Daisy Lynn is 100% potty trained, if it does not rain!  LOL – she makes a rare mistake if it is pouring down raining even though she has a covered back porch.

Last but not least!!! She now rides in her new collapsible mesh cage in the car!

The Rescue Remedy did not help enough to let her enjoy a car ride.

DaisyLynnCarCage1

It is a very nice princess palace.

DaisyLynnCarCage2

She has mesh so she can look out between the arm rest that she was trying to climb up on for most of our car rides.

DaisyLynnCarCage3

She can still be right between Grandma and Mama.

Here she is pushing her nose against the mesh, still crying but not as much.

DaisyLynnCarCage4

100 bucks well spent.  You can’t put a price on safety.

More loving the new car cage later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB knowing they were the best car riders ever)

PS – Daisy Lynn’s first bassethoundtown car trip coming soon…

I think Daisy Lynn has a boyfriend (hehehe)

October 24th, 2013 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow basset hound and boyfriend lovers…Daisy Lynn went over to visit her cousins today – Romeo and Enzo.

Daisy Lynn adores Romeo and basically never left his side.

DaisyLynnPlayDate1

Enzo was napping off camera.

Daisy Lynn was so calm and was really enjoying the big guy’s attention.

DaisyLynnPlayDate2

She came home, ate dinner and dreamed the dreams of love…

DaisyLynnPlayDate3

More loving dreams later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB wishing them well)

Happy 8th Birthday Bassethoundtown.com!

Howllo Fellow Bassethoundtown.com lovers.  It was 8 years ago this month that I started blogging and I have not stopped.

Wow!  8 years!  I have actually been doing it a lot longer but it has been 8 years since I started bassethoundtown.com!

I do need to update this picture to add Chaps and Emma ATB and also include our new Mayor Daisy Lynn.

P35_ThankYou

What a wonderful time I have had telling their stories.

Thank you to all the residents for reading and living in our town!

More blogging later…Love, Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB very famous indeed!)

PS – what do you think about his picture of Daisy Lynn?  It might be the perfect one to add to the lineup??? Only thing is that her tail is not showing.  I might need to find another one.  hehehe
