WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Mystified Lovers…
Yes, I am totally and utterly mystified about this graft that was in the USA BEFORE THE TERRIER WON – YET AGAIN, last night.
OK, what is wrong with this picture? Where is the hound group? Are they so ignored that they just leave them off the graph all together? I googled if a hound has ever won at Westminster and via a quick look it appears that at least 5 have. OH BOY! A whopping 5???
I would love to hear the opinions of others. What is going on with Westminster that they consistently award the Terriers? You can add another one to this total. Now it is 46 wins. It just does not make sense to me. I know Dog shows judges are totally subjective but come on!!!
I am just shaking my head. What do you guys think?
One think I know for sure is my x-show hound was the winner in my life. Chaps never liked showing. It’s a hard life for a such gentle souls. Bless his heart…
More not loving hounds being left off the graph later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma not wanting Mommy to frustrate)…
I let Hannah stay up to watch both nights of the Dog Show (I had to go to bed). After best in show she came upstairs and said “Mom, another dratty terrier won the dog show”. She was pulling for the Blood Hound and the Corgi … just about anything but a terrier or any dog that could fit inside the trophy. On my blog last Saturday I put a list of some of our favorites who have never won or only once since 1907, like the rough coat collie in 1929).
Everyone talks about the judges are just picking the best that meets their breed standard. Please, at that level, they all meet the “standard”, it’s a matter of opinion and influence.
Personally, I thought the Basset was beautiful, the Great Pyrenees was nothing special, and the St. Bernard was one of the most handsome dogs I’ve seen in a long time.
Hannah and I are tired of terriers.
standard poodles. really? tired of them. so many other breeds have outstanding qualities & are shining stars..but poodles…come on. chessies..never get selected either & there are some good looking ones.
i think the hound group is just considered not “flashy” enough (my opinion) bassets are crowd pleasers but people think they are lazy & dumb & stubborn, beagles..food whores & noisy. the coon hounds..no one knows about them for the most part..grey hounds..retired racers in rescue..etc. to me it seems the group has a public relations issue..i would see this at my dog park, & when i am out hiking (really? bassets can hike? run? they hunt?) there is a lot of ignorance out there..you would think it might not happen in the dog show world but i bet it does..
This is shocking, mean, cruel and so unfair. I hope they judges and sponsors all get bit in their butts by these so called winners.
Personally, I think most terriers are ugly. A beagle won a few years ago didn’t it? But yeah, I think bloodhounds are such big pretty massive dogs. I actually wanted a bloodhound but Ronald got confused and brought Jethro home to me for a surprise birthday present. Best mistake he’s ever made!
Personally, I agree. ENOUGH WITH THE TERRIERS ALREADY.
But I also want to say, what a beautiful touching photo of you and the late Mayor Chapsie!!
Thank you Karen – fond memories indeed for sure and always!
Cindy, yes, the 15-inch beagle won in 2008! His registered name is Ch K-Run’s Park Me In First. His nickname is Uno. He was a cutie pie and seemed to have that special “spark”. The Sussex Spaniel, Stump, won in 2009.
The bloodhound was robbed. He was so pretty and I
also liked the corgi. The crowd was the only good
judge there.
