Memorial Day in bassethoundtown spent in quite reflection…
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Memorial Day Lovers…Grandma, Daisy Lynn and I decided to have a picnic at our favorite spot and spend some time in quite reflection. It was the perfect day to do so.
We adore this park, (Devou in Covington, KY). We also have a favorite picnic table and it was available as you can see. I made Turkey Rubens and potato salad.
After our long, leisurely lunch we sauntered down to the wars memorial. Many folks strolled past and smiled at Daisy Lynn…
At the base of the memorial all of the wars are remembered with granite stones. Very touching.
The American Flag flew high and proud!
We made it back to our table area and sat for awhile under the huge shade tree. Grandma read a question on Twitter, “do you know how many are buried at Arlington?” I had no idea…
Over 300,000…
More quite reflection later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB with our vet, Grandpa…)
What a great way to spend memorial day. So glad it was such a beautiful day for you.
Turkey rubens? Ok, down south a ruben is corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese and mustard on rye bread. So, is a turkey ruben all that except the corned beef is replaced with turkey? I love rubens.
Yes, CJOHR, it is the same exact thing only with turkey. Instead of mustard we used thousand island dressing. The mustard is put in the potato salad. It was very good!
Not sure why we used mustard cuz I looked up recipes online and most used thousand island dressing like you did. I was a cook at a sandwich shop in Galveston Island Texas during the early 80’s and that’s how we made it. Maybe it’s a south Texas thing. Ha!
What an adorable picture of your Mother and Daisy Lynn.
Two very fashionable girls.
Looks like a beautiful day!
Basset Hound Town does such much for our fallen heroes.
Thank you all!
