YouTube find of the day…Basset Hound Rescue, Rehabilitation and Adoption

October 12th, 2014 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow basset hound and rescue lovers…Here we have a Youtube from the Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force – Humane Society of Missouri showing what they do.  It is not graphic at all.  Don’t worry about that.

Only ten weeks old and suffering horribly from pneumonia, internal and external parasites, and malnutrition, Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force Investigators weren’t sure all of the puppies would survive the trip to St. Louis.

According to the ASPCA…

When and Why Did Puppy Mills Begin?

Puppy mills became more prevalent after World War II. In response to widespread crop failures in the Midwest, the United States Department of Agriculture began promoting purebred puppies as a fool-proof “cash” crop. Chicken coops and rabbit hutches were repurposed for dogs, and the retail pet industry—pet stores large and small—boomed with the increasing supply of puppies from the new “mills.”

Which States Have the Most Puppy Mills?

Today, Missouri is considered the leading puppy mill state in the country. Over time, puppy mills have spread geographically. The highest concentration is in the Midwest, but there are also high concentrations in other areas, including Pennsylvania, Ohio and upstate New York. Commercial dog breeding is very prevalent among Amish and Mennonite farmers, with pockets of Amish dog breeders found throughout the country, including in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and parts of Wisconsin.

More hoping that puppy mills are shut down now, not later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB where there are no mills, just love)

Eden Park, Cincinnati OH – Pick day of the week for sure!

October 8th, 2014 - 8:08 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and full into fall lovers…Today was the pick day of our week in bassethoundtown so we grabbed it with all the gusto that we could!  We squeezed in another bassetabulous park –

Eden Park! We did not even scratch the surface of this jewel in the Queen City Crown…

EP1

Speaking of jewels…We met an English Mastiff!

Daisy Lynn was asking him, “Do you know Romeo?  My boyfriend?”

EP3

He answered…“Who is Romeo?”

EP4

“OK, OK…we will be on our way!”

EP2

You will not believe this, but Daisy Lynn tried to jump into the lake to get at the geese!  It scared us to death!

We headed for the flower trail fast!

EP5

The worst thing about winter coming is missing our beloved park visits.

EP6

More loving and hoping to squeeze in a few more sunny park days…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB and in Eden;)

These sweet days are certainly numbered but fall is sweet for sure!

October is adopt a dog month?

October 3rd, 2014 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and adopting dogs lovers.  I wonder who comes up with all of the causes that fit all of the months?  Then you break it down and there are different days for different causes.  It’s just too much for me. Daisy Lynn has deemed that all months are adopt a dog month…so there!

That being said, County Living did an article called:

20 Decorating Ideas for a Dog-Friendly Living Room
Dogs are an important part of our homes, so why overlook them when it comes to decorating? In celebration of Adopt-a-Dog Month in October, we challenged our editors to design four cozy sitting nooks each inspired by iconic country pooches.
By Laurren Welch

I guess the basset hound is considered an iconic country pooche!  hehehe

Here we have a room designed around Agnes!

fetching-style-basset-1014-lgn-94775

Dapper & Distinguished

THE DOG: Agnes, a 3-year-old basset hound who likes to snooze on her favorite chair almost as much as she enjoys wolfing down her favorite snack: scrambled eggs.

THE DIGS: A mix of warm colors, dashing prints, and cozy textures make for a polished and dignified reading lair—no bones about it!

LEATHER WINGBACK: The traditional profile, pet-friendly leather upholstery, and nailhead trim are worthy of the most esteemed master (or his dog).  (Hawthorne Leather Wing Chair, $2,180; four
hands.com. Miles Floor Lamp, $485; schoolhouse
electric.com)

PLAID WALLPAPER: Move over, houndstooth. This sporty plaid and its collegiate color-way evoke an old-school, hunting-lodge vibe.  (Regent’s Glen Wallpaper, $58.99/roll; yorkwall.com)

STATELY BOOKSHELF: Complete with bronze label tags, this well-priced oak bookshelf is seriously handsome.  (Barrister bookcase (35″ wide), $209.99; sauder.com)

SQUATTY FOOTSTOOL: Kick up your feet on this low-to-the-ground, hide-upholstered footstool reminiscent of the basset’s short, sturdy build.  (Cowhide Ottoman (similar to shown), $425; thecowpelt.etsy.com)

Agnes is no slouch when it comes to high priced country living!

If you are interested in seeing the other rooms you can click here and go to the other three “pooches”.  None as cute as Agnes but that is just my opinion!  LOL

More loving dog friendly spaces later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB knowing that Mamma lives in a dog house;)

PS – Thank you Grandma for showing me the article!
