Smudge is the man!  I think Daisy Lynn would do the same thing.  She is very, extremely alert.

HOUSTON – A burglar who used a doggy door is in custody thanks to a droopy-eyed Bassett hound, two brave women and police.

Cari Shoemate knew something was wrong when she heard her dog downstairs in their Rice Military home.

“He was whining and wrestling around, making some weird noises,” Shoemate said. “They are not known for being great guard dogs but he actually saved me!”

Shoemate had just put her toddler down for a nap when she hear Smudge causing a ruckus downstairs.

“I looked over and I saw a man come up the stairs right behind him. I was like, ‘Get out of my house! I have a gun!’ and I don’t know, I was really frantic and freaking out!” Shoemate said.

The burglar ran away and Shoemate called 911. Police say he broke into another house a few blocks over on Malone Street. That homeowner also managed to scare him away.

“She chased him out with a knife,” said Shoemate, “And they saw him running down the street and they arrested him.”

Police arrested Bryon Einkauf, 55, and charged him with burglary.

Einkauf has a long criminal history dating back to 1993 and has been in and out of jail.

Shoemate said although the scary experience shook her up, she’s learned a valuable lesson about herself.

“I feel safer now. I know how to deal with that situation. I dealt with it, the guy’s in jail and I feel like I reacted the best way possible,” she said.

And Smudge proved that even Basset hounds have bite.

“He’s kind of my hero you know? He really is!” Shoemate said.

Shoemate also credits the police for their speedy response. She said they kept her calm through the ordeal and even watched her toddler while she filed the report.

My doggy door has a lock on it when I choose to use it.  Daisy Lynn has a bell she can ring if she needs to go out during the night.  I don’t want to see anyone that looks like this creep in my house!  He is damn lucky that Smudge’s mom did no use her gun.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and, any port in a storm lovers…LOL! I say that because a nurse I used to work with in the recovery room would hold babies after they had tubes put in their ears and they would cling to her neck.  She would cuddle them and say that phrase over and over again.  It was so cute.

So I was saying that to Bumper and Abby last weekend when I went over to cuddle them and provide a potty break.

“Any port in a storm…”

Their Mommy Judy was spending the day in Louisville watching her son Kevin receive his MBA!  YES!

“Any port in a storm…”

After the storm passed the main question was…

“Hey blondie where are my treats?”

Momma Judy has 5 kids and all them have their MBA – one is even going for a second MBA!  Congrats Judy and hubby Rick.  Ya done great raising up your family!

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and BAGS or BUST lovers…Today Grandma and I did a leg of transport for 2 elder hounds heading from Knoxville TN to BAGS in North East OH.

We took off this morning! I am all ready with my BAGS T-shirt on!

Love it when a plan comes together!

The elders were coming from Knoxville and we met them at the La Grange, KY Crackle Barrel…

That is Emma on the left.  She is 11 and is heartworm positive.  Her traveling companion is Flash.  He is 10.  Both of these kids were owner relinquished from different families.

This is my contact Jamie who was very sweet and does lots and lots of transports.  As you can see the elders really hit it off.  They seem to immediately bond with each other.

Look howl pretty Emma is!  She was a darling.  A perfect girl in this world…

Flash really took a shine to herz!

He had the most melodic howl you have ever heard!  What a precious boy!

Then it was off to meet our next road warrior…

Grandma and I were thrilled to help these hounds make their way to grow older together.  It was a pleasure and an honor!

Potty time and drinks of water and one leg closer to a new home called BAGS.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Brave Hunter Lovers…We all have heard about the horrible rains in TX.  Wow – that state has really suffered.

Colby Chaps Mom found himz in the yard looking a something that had washed up from the rains!

What is it Mama?  Are we having Turtle soup for lunch?  (hehehe)

Mama Audra let her big beautiful boy look at it a bit longer but Turtle soup had to go back to the creek from which it came.

This turtle my friends and fellow residents is a snapper!

We need to keep that beautiful face snapper free!

Get on down the road little soup snapper…
