WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, MONTANA – When it came time to launch their brewery, Chris and Barry Hedrich were surprised to find one of the key challenges was getting goggles on a basset hound.
Founders of the new 2 Basset Brewery, the Hedrichs have named their venture in homage to their basset hounds Stanley and Leroy. They incorporated the dogs into beer names such as the soon-to-debut Stanley Stout.
They also staged a photo for each beer, which was easy enough except for Breaking Basset, a farmhouse ale with a television show pub. The photo that goes with it shows brewing equipment and goggles-wearing Walter White-impersonating hound.
“One of the appeals is people can visit. That’s one thing we’ve always liked about brew pubs, and they close at a descent hour,” Barry said. The town bars, open beyond the brewery’s 8 p.m. closing, have or are working on having 2 Basset beer on tap.
White Sulphur Springs hits above its weight when it comes to terrific restaurants. 2 Basset has popcorn only, with the option for patrons to order in or bring along supper.
“We had people ask if we’re going to serve food, but we have great restaurants here,” he said. “My wife and I always wanted to do a business. We couldn’t settle on something, until I said, what about a brewery, something that’s beneficial to the community.”
Well, that sounds like my kind of place. If I am ever in Montana I will be looking up Stanley and Leroy for sure!!!
More loving doing what you love later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB drinking rainbow ale…)
Even though I am not a beer person, I would definitely stop. I hope the two Bassets are on site.
