Copper – the 20 year old basset hound (possibly older:)
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Old Basset Hound lovers…So, far this is the oldest basset hound I have heard of. But wait, let me back track. Back on April 15, 2014 I did a blog posting titled,
“What is the oldest basset hound you have known or heard about?”
Recently I received a comment from a nice woman who has a hound named Copper. She told me Copper is 20 years old!!! Oh the joy of just thinking about that had me so happy. So, I contacted her because I just had to find out more, more, more…
Himz Momma states…
“Merry Christmas, we rescued him 18 years ago. He was found wondering the streets and we were specifically looking to rescue a basset. The vet told us he was between 1 1/2 and 3 when we got him. So we made him the age of our youngest son. 20 makes him 2 when we got him so technically he could be older.”
Copper in his prime…
A family favorite photo…
“He has gotten quite grey and skinny and not in great health the last few months.
He has been the best dog ever.”
I asked Copper’s Mommy what she thinks about his longevity and she responded…
“We have fed him really only salmon for the last 6 years. My husband thinks that Is a large part of his longevity. Thanks for asking about him.”
Isn’t this just a wonderful story? It just is so touching…
More loving the thought of buying some salmon for Daisy Lynn later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB thinking that is a good idea!)
