Himz gotta shot:(
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not loving shot lovers…..
Well, last night I reported, via twitter, that Chaps seemed to be making a turn for the better with his gastrointestinal distress. It was kind of a mystery but I had a theory that my vet shot down.
On Monday, Chaps went in for his cloudy eye and at that time his doctor did a Fluorescein/ful-glow strip test to see if his cornea had an abrasion. They have to put neon yellow dye (Fluorescein) in the eye to do that.
Well, that next morning Chaps got very ill and I think some of that dye went into his stomach. My big detective work was seeing howl shockingly neon yellow his dye-a-real and vomit were.
I know that sometimes when I put drops in my eyes I can taste it. Maybe the big guy is allergic to that neon yellow dye????? You can click on the Fluorescein link right above.
There had to be a connection and I think I found it via the Wikipedia link. Any way, this morning he was up and pacing since 4:45am. Eating grass and straining. Emma was all concerned and decided to see if her security blanket would help the big guy!
“Why is everyone up so early?”
So, off we went to the vet for about the umteenth time in the last 2 week (including Frankie).
Dr. Doan gave him a shot to settle his stomach, some anti-acids, and a GI antibiotic. No one really knows what it is but when we got home he was able to rest comfortably.
I made sure he got in bed and took a long nap. Does anyone remember the T-Shirt I am wearing? It says HELPING HOUNDS at the top. I can’t remember what basset rescue group sold it, I think it was Guardian Angel, when Katrina happened. It was to support
Looziana Basset Rescue which is now defunct. GABR also donated all of the corvette raffle money to LBHR that year.
Anyway, I digress but I love this shirt.
It is always so sad when a hound is ailing. Chaps kept looking at me like, “Do something Mommy”!
Then the big guy really started feeling better and he went belly up. The belly that was hurting so bad just hours ago.
Maybe the shot was worth it after all!
Better let the big guy sleep.
More heath updates later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
OH Chaps…going belly up is definetly a good sign that you are feeling better. You had us so worried. We don’t like it when our Mayor is not feeling “real”!! Take care and rest up!!
I know I would rather be sick myself than have my Basset ill. It so scary for them, and they don’t understand what is happening. I know that bedrest and belly rubs will be the best medicine for Chaps, and it was so nice of Our Emma to try and make help comfortable with her special blanket; but, when Chaps is better its another run to McDonald’s for some french fries.
I didn’t know there WAS a shot to settle doggie stomachs!Feel better Chaps . Get some rest Cat!
Well, since you mentioned he was feeling better I think he’s fine after the shot and now he’s just milking it! Oh Mayor…I hope you really are getting better.
Milk this for all it’s worth Mayor!! We would!!
Feel better soon from Belle and Bailey
Feel better soon, your honor. I think all the whole family needs a “sleep in” day. Between Frankie, Camp Cat, and Chaps being sick, it has been one heck of a couple of weeks.
That picture of Emma with her security blanket is ADORABLE.
I am inclined to agree with your detective work about the neon yellow! Where else did it come from especially he was fine when he went to the doctor for himz eyes? I am glad he is feeling better – Bumper and Abby send droul and slobber!
We are happy you are feeling better Chappers.
Love that T shirt.
Poor Chaps!!!:( I am so glad the shot worked and that it did the trick! Big hugs and soft bellyrubs for the mayor:)

Poor Mayor! Hopefully he has lots of sick days banked so he doesn’t have to go to the office for awhile.
That picture of Emma is precious. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dog that loves a good blankie as much as Emma. Sophie doesn’t bring a blankie wherever she goes, she brings her bed. When I come home from work, she brings me her bed; when she goes outside she tries to take her bed with her; when she wants a biscuit she brings her bed (have to be comfortable after all while munching a biscuit!).
Feel better Chaps. I hope everyone at BHT can have a quiet and restful day.
OM – that is so funny. I can just see her packing her bed where ever she goes.
I think Sophie has got the right idea. You must get your comfort close and foremost in your mind, but also be willing to share some comfort and take pride in comfort.
I think Sophie will live a long healthy life!
