Oh dear me…I went to AAA today, talk about the dark ages!

September 7th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and AAA lovers. I really am one of those but direction experts they no longer are, at least at my local AAA. I am trying to get a jump on our trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandma and I worked on it off and on all weekend. The kids helped as we labored over the Internet and books trying to find dog friendly hotels. Not an easy task. But, endeavor I did for my sweet kids!

“Mommy, don’t forget our treats”!

I love trip tiks and after all of our research, mapquests and google we marched off to AAA. What a joke. Anyway, we got a portion of our tik and I will make sure it is buttoned up before we leave. I will also have a Mapquest and we are buying a GPS.

There was a huge victory over the weekend! Look at the dog friendly place (no weight limit) I found and we are staying here in Asheville, NC! Can you believe it? Not quite the Biltmore but dog friendly is much better! Dog friendly is opulence to us!

We are excited beyond belief! The kids and I are staying in the Snuggle INN! hehehe You can bet we will be snuggling! Grandma is in the next door cabin! The midnight roost! Now this is living!

More trip planning later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. 90% of the hotels we called only accept dogs 40 pounds and under. I was like, “do you weigh them?” They were not too amused with me…..

I LOVE IT! What a great layout and more privacy than a motel room. And they are beautiful! I can’t wait!

The cabins are so cute and fun! The Mayor and Emmers will fit right in! Also, we learned that dogs are allowed in the Biltmore gardens and village. In the village they can eat with us outside at Cedric’s Pub. Cedric was a beloved St. Bernard at the Biltmore…

Maybe all of BHT should plan a trip there! We visited Asheville many times when we lived in SC. There is a folk art center on the Blue Ridge Parkway just outside of Asheville … it is the most wonderful place (especially in autumn). Also, my favorite relatives (Aunt and Uncle) live in East Flat Rock (south of Asheville) … they are amazing lovers and rescuers of dogs of all shapes and sizes.

i mentioned the folk art center to cat (i think) i went there eons ago when i attended law enforcement training in cherokee/great smokies…i loved it…

i loved the oconaluftee side of the smokies..not so much the gatlinburg side..altho cades code was beautiful…and the parkway was amazing…whats cool about the smokies is the range of the ecosystem present within the park there..

the parkway is cool& i love the little cabin…i stayed at a little cabin off the smokies when i was there right on a river with my dog when i was there…i have great memories…7 weeks..sept-late october 1983.

i am jealous of your trip..& i always get a AAA trip tik!

eat lots of bbq when you are down there…

I can’t imagine any inn, motel, hotel, or B&B saying no to any well-behaved dog.

I hope you take some photos of the interior. Sounds like a wonderful vacation for everyone.

I am finding out there is a real discrimination against big dogs. If I heard it once I heard it 100 times, no dogs over 40 pounds. HUH? It makes no sense what so ever. Just stupid!

Lois – You did mention it to me and I made sure that I have it marked. The folk art center is right down from the fairly new Asheville Visitors Center which is state of the art. They have a huge new theater and all kinds of information about the BRP. I am so excited! I love trip tiks but I knew more about the parkway than the AAA workers did. It takes a lot of research to figure out where the dog friendly places are. I am going to try and get them into the visitors center in Asheville. If I have to I will play the sympathy card with Emma being blind. LOL! She usually leads the way!

OM – Wouldn’t that be fun? There are 19 cabins at this place and as you probably saw a larger lodge. It would be so totally cool. I would love to do that some day. We could all go over and walk the dog friendly grounds at the Biltmore. HEAVEN!

I say we rent those cabins in the very back that are away from the others. Something to think about huh? Looks like the ones in the very back are really big. Those must be 2 and 3 bedrooms. Oh Cat, your going to have a blast! Can’t wait to see the pics!

Cindy, what is also so cool about this area is it is extremely dog friendly. There are website devoted to dog friendly Asheville! YES!
