The kids are ready and raring to go!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and ready and raring to go lovers! Well, I know 2 kids that fit that bill! Since I do a fair amount of rescue transports I know howl important paperwork is. If you travel with hounds make sure you have everything in order.
I have the kids health records that show their vaccines and their home again records. You should always, always travel with a picture of your hounds in the case of the worst case scenario. Make sure you write the number of your vet right on the paper work.
If you have home again yellow tags make sure you can see the numbers. My kids have them but they were worn out. I ordered 2 more, 8 bucks a piece. It takes about 2 weeks to get them so do it early. I also had my vet scan each kid to make sure the numbers matched.
Some hotels require a rabies certificate. Also, if you get pulled over you want all of your paper work in order.
I call it belt and suspenders…
You can never be too safe.
More safe travels with your hounds later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
The only mistake I made is I don’t carry a picture of them. I have all their vet records, rabies certificates, rabies tag on collar, microchip tag on collar and info tag on collar with their name, address and phone number. I also haven’t had them tested for their microchips cuz my vets wand didn’t work on Jethro and Rugs cuz they were international chips. I need to take them to the pound and see if they work there cuz they should. I just hate to expose them to disease even though they are vaccinated. Oh, I also have another info tag on their harnasses. Good job Cat! But I KNEW you’d have your poop in a group (er, ducks in a row) with this trip.
I’m sure you and Grandma are so excited. I know I would be!!!
good for you. keep a copy of this stuff in your car anyway after the trip..one at home, one in the car. never know when & where you will need it.
also…list of vets in the area where you are staying along with maps…just in case…# ‘s too.
it’s the ranger in me..i am anal for preparation for stuff like that..lot’s of kibble & take some 2 liter bottles of water & freeze them & pack a cooler..this way you have ice to keep things cool (like lunches for those tuna sammies) & the kids have familiar water for the trip….just a little bit of unfamiliar water can cause tummy troubles sometimes. when the bottles start getting a little empty then mix 1/2 new with old so the kids get used to it…works like a charm…especially for those with tummy issues.
don’t forget the gasx too, benadryl, etc.
i am excited for you…wish i was going on a road trip….
Thank you so much Lois. I forgot to pack the water. That is huge. I will do that right now. Gosh knows howl much our Emma has issues. I forgot all about that…
Cat
Lois – I also forgot the gas x. I just grabbed it out of my stash. Thank you so much for that. Thank you! Cat
