Long Johns for breakfast! Want to join us?

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Long John Lovers. Does your local bakery have Long Johns? My small town used to have a bakery but it does not anymore. I think that is real bummer because every town needs a bakery, especially basset hound town! I remember my Dad walking up to the bakery on the weekends and bringing home those white waxy bags full of Long Johns!

So, imagine my delight when my BFF called me and told me she has left me something on my door.

WHAT????????? LONG JOHNS!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMD! I just had another memory! My BFF (Janie) and I used to get up at about 4:30am and sneak out on our bikes and meet each other at the bakery. I would leave a note to my Mom and Dad and say, “I got up early and went for a bike ride”. They had no idea howl early! hehehehe. We would wait for the first batch of warm long johns and sit out side the bakery and eat them. I wonder what that baker thought? Too funny.

I haven’t had one of those in years. My dad used to bring home apple slices from our town bakery.

The long john is a favorite in our house. I remember doing that get up early in the morning thing to wait outside the bakery . Sometimes we didn’t even buy anything. It was enough just to be surrounded by that wonderful smell when they were baking! We still have a bakery in our town but times changing as they have, things are brought in already baked and they simply frost and display the goods for sale.

Never heard of a Long John. Guess they don’t have those in our neck of the woods. After all, we don’t get cold enough to need them! They look scrumpdillyicious!

I miss our hometown bakery too. I love chocolate long johns. We go to the bakery on York St. in Newport now.

Basset Hound Town definitely needs a bakery and butcher shop that caters to Basset to a Bassets taste.

yes! chicken planks & hush puppies…too die for! never eat their fish..go there only for the planks, slaw & pups….ok & the little crunchy bits of batter too…

gotta say it is my favorite junk place & there are a few sorta near here …like within 25 miles or so…& that is only recent…

don’t like their french fries…the all time great fries still has to belong to nathans..home of the original coney island hot dog..best fries going…(i so need a food court with them both in it…well actually i don’t but a girl can dream..)

Lois – I hate their fries as well. But the planks and the hush pups are a real treat. I think it’s the best fried chicken around! My friend, that is doctor, says,”I am feeling hypogreasemic, let’s go get some planks!”

    Too funny!
