Ahhh….I love my Dad’s Irises
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Iris Loves…My Dad was sure one of those and so am I. He planted these beauties around the light post that he picked out. The Iris was my Grandma’s favorite flower…Grandma Lena.
I looked out the window this morning and a majority of them were in full bloom. Giant juicy purple and white wonders!
First I had to assure the Mayor that I was not going too far! He held steady in his worry bed!
He is such a delicate flower as we all know!
Here is the shot from the street. You can still see the Mayor. He never left his post!
So, of course I had to take a few close ups……
If you look close you can see a few rain drops on the pedals. Oh, it is so beautiful. Just stunning….
Here we have a rather large clump of Stella de Oro aka Day Beauty. My Dad planted those a well. I just love them. They should be blooming very soon.
As you can see, the Mayor is still in his window on his worry bed. This week we are going to plant the outdoor worry flower bed. See that patch in front of the window? We don’t want anything too high because it would block his view.
I love spring and seeing my Dad again. Just lovely…..
More blooms to come later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
My dad planted amarillas in my moms front yard years ago. He’s been dead for 21 years and they still bloom every year. Like you, I look at those flowers and see my Dad.
What a beautiful flower you have to remember your Dad by.
Absolutely beautiful!
I love the raindrops on the petals!

Beautiful! A co worker gave me two huge clumps of the regular yellow ones years ago and they are just foliage so far. These iris’ that your Dad planted are the most wonderful color. I would love to add some of these next to the yellow! What is the name of this variety?
Hey, Debbie –
I have no idea of the name of this variety. I miss my dad so much!
I think it is a blue staccato iris. I searched for color varieties and was amazed at how many there were. I thought the blue crusader and monet’s blue iris were so wonderful too. What a beautiful visual your Dad left you to remember him by.
Wow, a blue staccato. I need to google that and look. Thanks so much for finding that. Very cool!
Cat-your yard looks beautiful–any updates on Verna?
Candy – Verna is doing great. The babies are all hatched as of yesterday. What is so amazing is that for the first time I can recall the Daddy is feeding as much as Mommy. I wonder if she has a new birdboy friend? He is huge! Boy oh Boy do I get the stink eye from him if I walk out side. I am afraid of him! Verna is a doll. Interestingly, he actually appears to be feeding Verna! Too cute!
Oh, that is great news–congrats Grandma Cat, Uncle Chaps and Aunt Emma.
Those Iris flowers are stunning. I envy you having a garden. I live in a condo so no such luck for me.
