Poor Emma has a dry nose!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and pity the dry nose lovers…Poor Emmers….
OK, Emma has a dry nose. I am pretty sure it is because she bumps it so often. Oh, I watch her every step of the way and I never change a thing in the house. But she still bumps:(
I have a tube of vitamin E that I dab on her nose after she eats.
I feel her bump my leg about 50 times a day. I see her bump Chaps about that much.
Emma is the best girl in our world. We love her nose so much….
More putting some Vitamin E on her nose later…Cat, Chaps and Emma
Bumper has a dry nose in the summer. I put Vaseline on his nose and it really helps.
Ozzie has always had a dry nose. And runny eyes. I always thought it was allergies. His nose actually cracks and looks painful but he doesn’t seem to be in pain. I’ve tried putting vaseline on it but he just licks it off.
I have tried vaseline and it doesn’t sink in as well as vit E. Howl ever, I am going to try it again.
Hi Cat……my mom has to do the same thing with her 15 year old goat ‘Bandit’. He’s blind and he is always bumping his nose. She leads him to the water a couple of times a day, and then puts him to bed each night, other than that he seems to be ok. What we wouldn’t do for these precious creatures. Clancy isn’t doing that well, please pray for her.
Oh Audra…We are so worried about Clancy. So very worried. We love your family
Our paws are crossed for Clancy.
Watson has a dry nose too right now! I will try the Vaseline trick, is it okay if they lick it off?
Thank you for sending drool our way to Clancy. He is better today. He was breathing very rapidly and pacing….this has happened twice. I hope it he was just winded from the heat and exhaustion, time will tell. We are keeping a close eye on him. My little Joshua went through that when he had cancer (he had a bleeding tumor so it took his body awhile to process the blood out of his lungs, which would involve him panting, etc)…then he would come out of it and be fine. He lived 3 months like that, with a good quality of life, until one time it was too much for him to bear. Oh, how hard it is to watch our pets age…..
OH, Audra that is so right. It is so hard to watch our hounds age. I am so glad to hear a positive update about our Clancy. You keep me posted OK? Give your Mom a hug for me as well….Love you….
Cat
This is so sad!
What does dry nose mean exactly?
It is just a dry nose Maureen. Most times our hounds have nice, wet shiny noses that are cold. Emma’s is hard and dry:(
I just found your blog and saw this post. I have a 12 Cocker Spaniel that has been blind since she was 4. She has had the dry cracking nose for the past couple of years now. I tried everything and nothing worked. This past May she was diagnosed with CHF and is now on Lasix and Vasotec to help her heart. Her nose has cleared up almost completely. I don’t know if the two are connected, but I have a feeling in my Brittany’s case they are.
The CHF came on suddenly. In January she didn’t even have a sign of a heart murmur and then bam in May she’s suddenly at stage IV. We’re taking things a day a time. Your blog has helped me. Thank you for sharing.
Donna
Hi Donna! Welcome to the blog! Oh, you and I know all about the love of a young hound that is blind. I am so glad that my blog is helping you. What a wonderful comment to hear this morning. Thanks so much…..I am sorry about your darling Brittany and her stage IV murmur. Those diagnoses can be such a shock to the human. My Lily had a slight murmur and was on the same medication as my Mom for years. Please take care and come back often! Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
