Low 90s instead of high 90s…Picnic time!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and getting a slight break lovers….Today we had about a 10 degree break in the weather and the humidity. I jumped on this day to take the kids to the vet for their nail clippings. My Mom and I always love to incorporate a nice outing after the vet so the kids don’t get too depressed. So, we planned a picnic at Mount Airy Forest in Ohio. We have been before and liked it.
So we took off early…..See the kids up on the porch?
It has been way too long since we have been out. We are all like shut ins.
In our neck of the woods we have had good rain. Our flowers and the one tomato plant are doing great.
Of course Emma leads the way as usual. She is such a good little blind girl! I always pull the basset hauling vehicle out to the same spot and she goes right up the ramp.
We went to the vet and then headed off to Mount Airy Forest in Ohio to have our picnic. This park has a tree house that is built for everyone including the disabled. The ramps are wide enough for many wheel chairs as well as a blind basset hound;)
Chaps and I ventured out to the balcony area and he did not like it one bit. He likes the pack to stay together.
It was now time to leave.
Not because we wanted to but because the parade of police cars made us uneasy. Something was going on. It made me sad. I know parks are not all safe.
But a park with a tree house for disabled kids and disabled dogs?
It was just sad. I googled it when I got home. Turns out a magic tree house does not a safe park make. I am not sure why all the police were there today but the internet searches turned up many a reason not to go back.
We will being doing google searches before visiting parks instead of after in the future.
More being sad later….Cat, Chaps and Emma
That tree house was just made for you ! Too bad bad things have to happen in beautiful places. Stay cool!
That is pretty sad that you can’t even go to a park and have a good time. What is this world coming to?
think of it this way..it is safer because you saw the police & ranger vehicles. take confidence in knowing they were around to provide safety. especially in a park that offers recreational opportunities for special needs kids & bassets.
many parks now aren’t as fortunate to have a quick response do to budget cuts.
Lois – interesting look on the situation. Of course I am thrilled the Police were protecting us. However, unfortunately, the person that was targeted in the most current sting was a Police Officer. Can you believe it? He was caught. Frightening.
I know I should have put that in the original blog posting but I felt that I did not want to go that far. I love the Police and what they do for us. Unfortunately, there is bad in every profession.
yeah..even jerks get jobs…we had a park ranger who just get released from the federal penn for kiddie porn charges…so yeah i know what you mean…worked with this guy for years…his dad was very high in the system…he could have had a very promising career now he will be lucky to get a job bagging groceries. i feel very sorry for his wife & kids.
still don’t let this stop you…go out & visit the parks..enjoy yourselves. feel better that the jerk is no longer on duty.
Oh, I agree with you Lois. My Mom and I Love the Parks. We have trip planned to Cumberland Falls coming up. We live for the parks.
I was very impressed with the Police coverage at Mt. Ariy. These cops were the best. It was very interesting how they blanketed the area. I think they were watching us. Within seconds I saw an uncover cop drive pass us. I think that they were watching us in the tree house as well.
We had no idea what was going on but we still enjoyed our picnic! hehehehe
It looks like a neat park to explore non the less. Glad you were able to get your pack out of the house this weekend!
Oh, it is a beautiful park but get this. In the Sunday paper there was an article about how Heroin is making a huge come back in Cincinnati.
http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110807/NEWS010701/108070361/Today-s-heroin-addict-young-white-suburban
The area that is mentioned is right where this park is.
What is it all coming to? Very sad…..
What a disappointment for everyone, I hope you can find some wonderful spot that everyone will enjoy.
That article is too scary. I will never understand why, when kids are told what the outcome is, would they still try the drug?
