Friday update on the Mayor. He is not quite ready to carry the Olympic torch yet;)

July 27th, 2012 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and update lovers.  Last night was ruff on our Mayor.  He did not sleep well at all and cried most of the night.  He also paced and moaned.  I was pacing and moaning with him hoping he would wear himself out but it just didn’t happen.  I think the severe thunder storms had his adrenaline too high. Grandma came down early this morning to try and sooth him into a nap and it worked.

His doctor said we could up his pain meds to every 8 hours instead of every 12.

Later we finally got him to go out on the porch for a tinkle.

This was the big cyst that kept erupting.  Believe it or not, this one was not as bad as on the one on his neck, which was not a cyst but something else.  I had it sent to the lab to see what it is.  It started out as a small wart like thing.  Then it grew into a large (walnut size) bloody wart thing.  It was the only reason I had the other ones removed and his teeth cleaned.  The dang thing was nasty.

And…he can reach it with his paw which means, he can reach the stitches as well.  So….here is Mr. sock paw.

It works really well so far.  He can walk and it is throwing off his scratching ability.

Here is another picture.

He is resting for now but still very uncomfortable.  I am anxious to get 3 pain pills in him today.

We are going to watch the Olympics tonight.  That should be fun!

I am making pork and sauerkraut. (Sound familiar?)

More updates about our boy later….Cat, Chaps and Emma ATB

I am so sorry to hear about the rough night Chaps had. It is so hard to see your baby in pain. I know when Bumper had his eye surgery he paced all night. It took about 4 days for him to be comfortable. I can see from those nasty stitches that he would be in pain. Look on the bright side that he does not have a cone. Hang in there it will be behind you soon. Enjoy the Olympics tonight.

I wish they could figure out why bassets are so prone to these things. I know it is because of all the loose skin etc. I have even heard that hormones play a part. But you brush him and keep him clean and are such a good mom, they say hair folicles get blocked and cause these. That is one more theory. So sorry you had a bad night Chaps. Feel better soon. Take care of yourself too Cat, try to get some rest. Hope the report from the lab comes back good. Thanks for keeping us updated, we love him too.

Thank doG for Grandmas! My stomach turned when I saw that picture of Chaps’ handsome haunch. Poor guy. I can see why he’s pacing and in pain. Up those pain meds. Is he on Rimadyl or tramadol? If it’s Rimadyl they say there are no side affects to that med. It’ll only be a few days I’m sure so give him what makes him comfy. I know Jethro is either a big baby about getting those things removed or they really hurt. But you gotta get them nasty things off. I’ve sent 2 of Jethro’s in for testing and both came back as some kind of weird mole. So, we don’t test anymore. But good thing you tested the one that was different. You never know. But I’m sure it’ll come back fine. I hope tonight is a better night. We’ll keep you in our thoughts and prayers and all paws are crossed for a less painful night.

buster looked horrible after his 2 surgeries..franken basset! one was on his tail & the other on his spine..& his leg…he just looked like you didn’t want to touch him because he should have been just in such pain..

the spine one hurt more ( not actually spinal but skin wise) & there were other spots the vet hit too) he was cranky with that one plus he is a vain boy & i think he realized his looks would never be the same…the tail one didn’t really show.

but a few days of love & pain meds & he was back to his normal obnoxious self.

Hi residents – we had more storms move through but now the Mayor is resting. The additional pain pill helped. He still get another one at midnight. Watching the opening of the Olympics or should I say the commercials that over run the Olympics. Wow, hope this is not what we are in store for. I think I will pick my events and record them.

I am so glad the sock thing helped, and that Our Mayor is recovering. Slinky insisted we send a get well package to the Mayor, so he knows we are wishing him well and thinking of him often.

So keep your eyes of the Mailbox.
