I could not update my site today!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Emma Lovers: I just wanted to let my dear readers know that I could not update my site today due to a scare Emma gave us. It was the weirdest thing. I noticed that when she was in her office bed she would not lay her head down. Then when the door bell rang this morning, she did not do her normal frantic barking. Then I knew something was wrong. I called Grandma to see what she thought. When Grandma came in she did not move. OK – something is really wrong. We hauled her off to the vet and it turns out she might have an aggravated thoracic disc with a urinary tract infection. Or it could be just a UTI. I did a free catch outside of his office and I actually saw some blood. She had not shown any signs of a UTI at all. (straining)
She is on antibiotics for the UTI and a mild pain killer. She is resting now and I made a full length body pillow so she could just lean her head and not have to put it all the way down.
I placed her favorite toy next to her for comfort. That is what is in front of her face. The doctor said that disc pain can radiate to the neck. He did a neurological examination on her and she functioning fine, for the exception of a weakness in her thoracic spine area which he said could be from the UTI. Sorry for all of the medical data.
Our Emma is now resting with her mild pain pill, a dose of antibiotics for the UTI and her full body pillow. I will keep everyone posted.
More updates later….Cat, Chaps and Emma
Poor Emma! Such a good mom and g/ma she has. I’m sure the long pillow comforts her, Where is Chaps? He should be there comforting her. Give your girl a gentle hug and kiss from Auntie Joni please. Homer is drooling big time for his Ky sweetheart.
No, no not our Emma. You get lots of rest so you can better very, very soon.

Oh, Cat – I was worried when I saw the website was not updated or you broadcasted this afternoon. I was going to send you an email – I always am worried about Grandpa.
Bailey and I are sending all our love to Emma with the hope that she rests and gets better soon. You too, Mom, I’m sure you had a rough day too. Chaps will just have to look after his girls!
Keeping you in our thought . . .

Wow, we go from Super Star to ailing Emma! Talk about a roller coaster. Thank Dog she is tucked in and sleeping. She is still leaned up against her body pillow. I just need to keep her still and quite. I will go lay with her soon and watch a good movie. Thank you so much for your wonderful wishes. Cat
Candy, I know, I was all set for the show and then we were flying like bats out of heck to get Emma in for her appointment. Her doctor said that he thinks that Emma has an ability to hide pain very well. With all she had been through in her life he thinks that she might try to hide pain from me. I thought that was very insightful. I really like him. Thanks for mentioning the radio show. I really look forward to my next one. Cat
Oh my! Poor Emma! Our Maxine suffered from repeated UTIs most of her life (a vet later in her life said it was likely a result of her first vet doing her spaying too early and incorrectly). Anyway, how sad for Emma to have to deal with a UTI and disc pain. Poor dear. Extra prayers and slurps from here.
(PS – the antibiotics always had Max feeling better in short order)
give me a big scare! i thought oh no…not emma…not after blossom…i don’t think i could handle 2 days of news like that in a row. thank god it wasn’t that!
i am glad she is resting. please give my girl a smush for me. sometimes a uti can just make everything hurt like hell!
i thinks she needs a warm toasty blankie over her (i know i do when i have a kidney issue…makes me feel better and some chicken noodle soup too).
Cat – Lois is right about the blankie. When Maxine had her infections, she was always chilly (shivering actually) and I would warm big towels up in the dryer and that would help her rest.
Thanks friends. I did take Lois’s suggestion and warm up a blankee…I laid it over her and she is now resting in her bed. I really welcome the suggestions that I have used. Emma is now sleeping in her big bed with a warm blanket. I know I am repeating myself but I am just so happy! She is warm and sleeping. Her head is down. Thank you so much. Lois, it is like a heating pad…
Love Cat and Emmers
Poor sweet Emma , Give her a big hug for me. Love Ken
Poor Emma! I have her in my special intention prayers to St. Francis. I was going to suggest a heating pad too. Keep us posted, I know you will! And the boys are sending tons of go-away-neck-pain-and-UTI drool for sweet Emma!
Mary, Harley, Biggs and Leo (who is all too familiar with UTI’s), and the kitties
honestly and if she can’t have the campbells double noodle chicken noodle soup then you should (salt be damned).
sometimes when you are sickly you just need comfort food.
glad the blankie helped.
OH Emma! I am so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Please take your time to recover, and take care of yourself.
Is there anything Slinky or I could do?
Poor Emma. Get well soon.
It was strange but, after reading about Emma yesterday evening, my female, Josie, wouldn’t leave my side. Went to bed and she even laid right next to me and snuggled. She never does that. Strange.
Emma Sweatheart,
You do not deserve going through this….you have had more than your share of pain in your little life!! You are in good hands, and with all of your adoring fans sending special drools to you….I am sure you will be back soon on the fast track!!! You are an inspiration to all of us….!!XOXOXOX
Wow, Dan that is strange. Maybe she connecting to your worries about Emma on some level. I think dogs are so smart. They have levels we could never understand.
Thanks for the comment
Cat and Emma
Maureen – she is doing so much better as you can see in the disco post. I am sure Slinky was drooling for her non stop. That helped a lot. I know a lot of hounds were drooling last night. That probably helped more than the pain meds.
Love Cat
Lois – I did do the warm blanket and some warm slices of potato. She cannot have chicken because she allergic to protein. Poor girl. She loved the warm blankee and did not move a muscle all night. I however had the chicken soup! I was a wreck. LOL
Cat
Poor Emma!!!
Get well soon girl! We are thinking about you!
Emily, Sadie and Bowser
Bless Emma’s heart and yours too sweet Kit Kat! You have such wonderful friends all sending good vibes your way! Hope she is on the mend. Maybe a round of doggie probiotics???
xoxoxo,
Nin
P.S. I LOVED the disco ball pics!!!!
Tell Emma to “Turn the beat around…turn it around…” Turn that UTI upside down!!!
1-24-14 – Well, I am leaving this comment because I got my Tally Ho yesterday and learned that Emma’s Dad, Titan also had back surgery, in fact 2 of them. So, chances are Emma inherited yet another weakness from him. Poor Emma. It is just a shame that Titan was used over and over again for breeding purposes. So sad.
