Emma gets a package in the mail and the best gift is for us!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and packages coming in the mail lovers! OMG! Emma was so excited today when a package that smelled really good came for her today in the mail!
Dear Cindy, Jethro, Rugby, Ozzie and Harriet Doyle we cannot thank you enough and you will soon read why!
Here is Emma reading her card.
How cute are these hounds? This card was made just for Emma!
Then Emma checked out her package.
Hurry Grandma, Hurry…….open my gift!
The first thing we saw was this totally terrific toy! As Grandma pulled it out of the box Emma went wild!
Grandma squeaked the toy for Emma and this is where a gift for Emma turned into the best gift ever for us!
EMMA STOOD UP AND WALKED A FEW STEPS, FOR THE FIRST TIME, TOWARDS THE TOY!
The crowd went wild and tears were flowing as Emma did it again. She walked a few more steps! Grandma was not holding her up!
Our girl got turned around but we made sure she got her new toy and the YUMMY TREAT that came along with the miracle toy!
One for Emma and one for Chaps. A girl never was more deserving of a homemade potato and carrot ball from Auntie Cindy and company!
Yes please – I will have another!
Hey we can’t forget the Mayor of potato hound town! LOL
I hear by proclaim 3-31-09, Emma day in basset hound town. Potato balls for all!
Cindy, can you believe it? We cannot thank you enough. We are jumping for joy and Emma is very proud of herself. We love you guys very much.
Hey are those magic potato balls? LOL
More potato balls later…….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
How wonderful Cat. Emmers really wants to get better and quick. That toy and the treats were just what she needed. Give her a hug and kiss from me and my boys.
Well of course they’re magic! I couldn’t just send Basset Hound Town plain ones! OMG! I’m sitting here at work with tears just running down my face. I was a little worried because you hadn’t updated the site yet and was hoping that no news was good news. I sure didn’t expect all this to happen over a small squeaky toy and a few potato balls. But I’m glad it did! They were made with bunches and bunches of love and inspected by a team of 4 bassets. EMMA WALKING IS A DREAM COME TRUE! You keep up the good work Emma. It won’t be long before you’ll be strolling down the sidewalk with Grandpa.
We love you!
The ‘POWER OF LOVE” and a Potato Cheese Ball!!! That is our gal….she truly is amazing!! The inspiration she shows us each day in her strenght and detemination….brings joy to all our hearts. Keep up the good work Emma…we are all rooting for you….!!! XOXOX!!!
YEAH!!!!!!! YIPPPEEE SKIPPPEEEE!!!!!
SHE’S WALKING!!!!! SHE’S WALKING!!!!
GO EMMA!!! GO EMMA!!!!
Emma and Chaps have hearts as big as the Great Outdoors. It is so easy to love them because they give so much love and more to all of us.
Those potatoe treats must have a magic ingredient, and that squeaky toy was made for Our Emma’s pure joy.
We are so happy that Emma has started walking, but we caution her to take it easy.
P.S. I just love that card.
Hi Cat-
I just looked at your blog and discovered that Emma had back surgery. Unfortunately, I know exactly what you are going through. My Tony (ATB) had back surgery about two 1/2 years ago….it is so stressful. He just woke up one morning paralyzed. We took him to a vet (not our regular) who said to wait a day or two to see what would happen. We said, “No way!”, and took him straight to a neurologist. They did 2 sets or MRI’s, and then he had surgery that afternoon.
Like you, we were very fortunate to have a good physical therapist, and Tony did therapy in a water chamber-thing with a treadmill underneath. He walked with water up to his shoulders while I held a wiener as a carrot to keep him going. Tony would do anything for a wiener!
Tony made a full recovery and lived very happily for two more years. (He was 11 1/2 at the time of surgery). So there is light at the end of the tunnel!! I know how stressful back surgery is emotionally, physically, and financially, but there is light.
The towel-as-sling works well for awhile, but, for the sake of your back, I really do recommend getting a proper sling. I will send you Tony’s if you like. It is really no problem.
Funny story: Tony was a typical lazy basset who felt that back surgery was a really good reason to take it easy and boss mom & dad around, so, at some point, the physical therapist felt that he was becoming too dependent on his sling. She introduced us to ‘tail-walking’ in which someone holds firmly to the lower, stronger end of the tail as support for walking. At first Tony hated it, but he quickly got the hang of it and started using his legs a lot more. One day as I was tail-walking him into the clinic and a lady who was driving through the parking lot stopped and said angrily, “I think you need to get that dog a leash!” LOL. I told my husband that I should have said to her, “I know, but I just spent $10,000 on MRIs, surgery, and therapy. I can’t afford a leash!”
Jill
Let me know if you want that sling. It is GREAT, and I will get it right out to you.
Jill – you had my sides splitting after reading the end of your comment. I went ahead and re-ordered the sling. It is going to come in handy for various things we do. I am going to re-order the one that my friend OneMom suggested.
So far I have only spent about 4000.00 dollars. I say only because of your total! OMG!
I will still post Emma’s bill soon just so we can all see what it entails. I know that MRIs are very expensive and Emma only had one CT scan.
Jill made this pawsome video that I will be posting soon for a class project. She is very talented. Thanks Jill!
Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
OMG – HIP HIP HOORAY. We are so happy for Emma. You go girl, we knew you could do it!

I cried when I read the good news. Emma you sure melt the hearts, Chaps your a wonderful babysitter too. Take care Emma we love you.
This is such good news. Way to go Emma! Way to go Cindy and company for motivating Emma to try some steps on her own!
That’s good you’re getting the sling. As Emma gets stronger, it will give more support on ramps and steps without her being able to slip out.
Emma walking! That is such happy news!
Hi Cat…..It’s after midnight here, but I wanted to check in on Emma…..and boy am I glad I did. What wonderful news — I am sooooo Happy. I know you and Grandma are just overwhelmed with joy. The Auction is in 2 days and I have been working NONSTOP! I can’t wait until it’s over. What a praise to know Emma took a few steps. Keep up the therapy and in no time she will be walking accross the room. Sending all my love…..
Hi Audra – you are up late! I know, Emma is such a strong trooper. She never ever complains at all. She gives me such inspiration and joy. I love spreading that all over my blog so everyone can grab a piece of her message. Live, love, smell, eat, and rejoice!

Cat
Becky and Lilly’s Mom –
I am so happy that Emma has an adoring public. She really gains her fans from love. Tonight (4-1-09) she walked about 5 steps in from the potty area on her own and was wagging her tail the entire way. Ahhhhhhhhhh, walking is grand!
