Emma in her gilded cage…….
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and gilded/wrought iron cage lovers: Well, today is a big day. Emma’s is going to be around Chaps for a bit. The doctor did not want them together until her staples came out, but based upon her good progress he said that as long as Chaps does not excite her too much they can visit with supervision. They are together all day long but seperated by a wrought iron gate. Every morning, noon, and night they touch noses and kiss. I was making their breakfast this morning and when I went to give Emma hers this is what I saw.
This is Emma’s gilded/wrought iron cage. The couch is where I sleep at night and to the right outside of the gate area is where Chaps sleeps so he can see us. Emma is laying on her bed, but you really can’t make it out too well.
I am looking foward to our get together later today. You know I will have pictures. It has been 9 days since Emma’s surgery. The recovery period is 8 weeks. I talked to her therapist today and she said that Emma should never go down or up steps again. Does that seem a bit extreme to anyone? Just wondering.
I want to thank everyone for all of the comments and well wishes. They mean the world to us. I have been so consumed with our Emmers that I have not been able to blog about much else besides her. Not, that there has not been a lot to say! LOL
More Emma blogging later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
I think the stair situation will be for quite awile; but, after a considerable amount of time (check with doctor and therapist) Our Emma should be able to do a few stairs very slowly.
I am so glad to hear that Chaps and Emma will be able to visit together later today, I think that will be the best medicine for Our Emma.
Please be sure to let the Mayor know about the poem I sent to Our Emma.
We can’t wait or the kids to be together. More good medicine for Emma.
Waiting for the pics. . . .

i think the stairs thing will be with moderation…certainly no washington monument or bitch in the bay (oops flashback…statue of liberty sorry..old habit)…but its hard to avoid ALL steps for ever.
i’m a believer of everything with moderation…it seems she is healing nicely and ahead of schedule….and it also seems she knows her own limits…so..i would also let her be her own guide too.
can’t wait to hear about the reunion!!!
O BOY, O BOY!!! Can’t wait to hear how they do. Since they’ve been able to see each other she shouldn’t get too excited but I’m sure they’ll be very happy to be able to smell ALL over. I guess it’s a good thing that you bought that sling thing. If I were you I’d be sure and put that on and give her support every time she walks steps. I know you don’t want to take chances and I wouldn’t either. Like you, I do think that forever sounds a bit extreme. Maybe after she’s completely healed and after a few good x-rays he’ll let her do a few very slowly.
Pally can do steps now. I think it was about 6 months before he was able to do them by himself. I woiuldn’t let Emmerws go upstairsa to the g/ma & g/pa’s ever again. They will have to come down to see her.Alot willdepend on how her healing process goes. I know she is in the best habds possible. Love to Chaps, Emmers and all the zruderts.
Depending on how short her legs are and how heavy she is, she may well never be able to do more than one step again alone ~ but that’s OK, she has a great mom and a towel sling!
Good point Melynda – She may need help forever, but that is OK. She helps us more than we help her.
