Another day another milestone/memory……..
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Milestone Lovers: Today was the first day that Emma has been able to spend most of the working day in my office. It was a real joy for all of us. I know that Grandma is thrilled for her and now she can have some of her day back. Here is Emma resting on a towel that Chaps basically relegated her to. He wants to make sure he can stretch out in a manner fitting to a Mayor.
Heck, Emma could have been laying on a block of ice, she was just thrilled to be in the office. The scene reminded me of my days working for General Electric Aircraft Engines. I had an account in Turkey and I used to love to visit the Turkish rug stores. It was fascinating how everyone in the shop, which was about the size of my office, would throw a plethora of rugs everywhere for my viewing pleasure. It was amazing how many people and rugs would fit in such a small space. Don’t forget the tea/chi, you can’t view rugs without ample amounts of tea. Here is one of the rugs I bought. It was from the Hereke region which was noted to be the best of the best for Turkish rugs. Who new it would comfort a basset hound’s pads recovering from back surgery.
Here I am with my interpreter/driver right inside the Turkish Bizarre. I still thank the heavens that I am alive when I think that he was my “driver”. You have not loved life so much as when you successfully speed past a pickup truck, loaded as tall as a semi, with chicken filled crates. Feathers flying.
The tiny rug shop was right around the corner. I think I have pictures of it somewhere in my vast archives of slides.
This is me with Illhami. AKA – bad driver, good interpreter. Great Kabob finder!
It’s funny how just a fleeting look at the kids laying on all of those rugs will bring back such a different memory. Darn……..I miss those Kabobs! I have never had another one like it since then.
More milestone/memories later………..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
How cool. You are so lucky to have experienced that.
Cindy – I really count my lucky stars. I loved every minute of it. One of the cool memories would be sitting next to a woman who had a litter of goats on a bus. She was so sweet to herd them in her direction. Thank goodness I sat down next to her. I held 2 of the babies for 2 hours. We could not talk, but we laughed a lot. Plus, I held her hand. I often wonder if she remembers me.
Wow… I love the pic. Please post more of you in Turkey!! I love my Hereke rug and think of you every time I look @ it. How did you ever lug that big thing back???
I love my Kit!!!
xoxoxo,
Nin
Hi Nin –
I have hundreds of pictures but most of them are slides – UGH……
I brought your rub back in a hanging suit case. You know, the kind of thing you put hanging clothes in. It was Dad’s idea. I had it checked through luggage and no fuss no muss. The hard thing to transport was the massive crystal chandelier I bought. I had to take every crystal off and had wrap it and place it in my carry on. The GE plant packed and shipped the cage for me like an aircraft engine part. It was too funny. You should have seen the looks going through customs.

hey cat? driven some wild streets in the jersey city/newark area lately???? trust me…you’ll be like having a ptsd flashback with out the courcency exchnage problems….even with chickens flying!
it’s never dull. and believe me sneaking chandeliers thru anything…well lets just say bigger things than get slipped under the radar.
we lost full size bull dozers and cranes off of liberty island…not once but a few times so it can happen…and than involved using a barge too.
Lois – Life in Jersey sounds wild! I went to the board waddle once and I was not even near the league of those drivers. LOL This KY girl was glad to get back to her back roads. However, Ocean City was one of the coolest places I have ever been. I loved it.
