Meet Duke Ellington………

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and new members to the family lovers:

Most everyone in the basset hound community know who the Gordons are! They have
ABC’s Slobber Shoppe.

All the proceeds of this online store go towards saving Basset Hounds in need.

Back on February the 28th the Gordons lost their very first basset ever to a cancerous tumor at age 12 and 1/2. His name was Doc Gordon. The hole in their hearts was huge as you can imagine. He was very famous.

The Gordons morned his loss along with all of Doc fans.

Over the Easter holiday I got an e-mail from the Gordons and was thrilled to read the subject line, Meet Duke Ellington Gordon!

I have to add Shelly’s e-mail because it is just so cute and sweet. Here it is:

Start of e-mail……..

A few days after Doc passed away, Don and I went on our trip to California that we won at the GABR Ball. While in CA, we visited Daphneyland and BARNI (one of the basset rescues in California). While there, a cutie named Duke kept following us around. Out of 97 homeless bassets, he kept finding his way back to us. We instantly fell in love. Duke is 4 years old and is deaf. He’s been at the Daphneyland Ranch for a year now. He was originally a stray in Burbank. We couldn’t stop thinking about him and decided to add him to our family. After a month of waiting, he finally arrived to us yesterday. He had a long flight in on American Airlines from LAX to Chicago. He flew in with 2 puppy mill puppies, but he is the one that got all the attention from everyone at baggage claim. He sat in the front seat with Don on the ride home. He met Dudley, Diesel, Eeyore, Marshmallow & Munchkin and the?2 fosters, Victor and Brutus, and everyone got along great. Last night, he slept the entire night (in bed) between Don and me. It’s like he’s been here all along.

Thanks to Dawn Smith and everyone at Daphneyland/BARNI who helped get Duke to us. He is going to be a great addition to the Gordon Family.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Shelly, Don and new guy….Duke

End of e-mail and start of pictures!!!!!!!!!!

What a wonder family photo! Can you imagine Duke’s surpise when he saw the folks he loves greeting him after that long flight?

Hello – nice to meet you.

duke_gordon5

I was amazed that Duke had not been adopted from the Ranch, but I guess the deafness played a part in that. It did not bother Shelly or her husband one bit.

I was telling Grandpa about it and his comment was that the Gordons would probably not have many problems having a deaf basset because they don’t listen to us any way! LOL

More about Duke Later……..Welcome home and to bassethoundtown sweet boy!

What an incredible beautiful boy! I was just saying to my husband the other day that I didn’t think I had ever seen a basset whose ears didn’t match … Duke certainly breaks that notion! He is gorgeous.

I think they call those kind of ears “laced”. I just LOVE them. I had the most beautiful female foster dog named Corley that had really beautiful laced ears. Unfortunately she died 7 short weeks after finding her perfect forever home. Long story but basically she passed away from bloat. I still think of her often. This boy kind of looks like my Ozzie. Oz has some lace on his ears. Duke is the luckiest dog in the whole world!

what a beautie!!!! how lucky they all are!!! those are special ears…i have a feeling his ears will have a story just like emma’s eyes!…iffen they need any moral support please pass them on to me…i’ll be glad to share!

like i’ve said before…things happen for reasons we don’t always understand…dogs choose us sometimes…

remember…the only thing a deaf dog can’t do is hear.

Duke is such a beautiful dog. I am so glad that Don and Shelly adopted him. I can tell you that “he” couldn’t have selected a better home! When Don brought him over to my house to meet me he “mooed at me”. I’ll win him over. I immediately cooked some lean ground beef for him as I usually do for the other Gordon brood. 🙂

It is so commendable what you are doing for these homeless hounds.

    Thank you,
    Marie (Grandma Gordon).

Under sep. cover I am sending you a donation to help out.

Hi Marie aka Grandma! You are one lucky Grandma to be surrounded by all of these amazing hounds. Don and Shelly are wonderful folks and I love following what they do. I told my sister that I am pretty sure they have my life! I want the RV and I want to travel around and support rescues just like they do. They are very inspirational for me.

It is so nice to hear from you.

    Love Cat

Duke is very handsome, and must have done something wonderful because he was able to adopt someone like the two of you.

Do you live in Chicago or New York?
