Emma loves her sun bathing……She is a bathing beauty!
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Sunbathing Lovers: Well, I know most of us don’t actually lay in the sun anymore. However, that does not include Emma. OMG – she loves to lay in the sun and I try every summer to limit her exposure. She must go up and down those back steps 50 times a day. It’s kind of funny because she will get really hot and then come in and lay in front of the air conditioning vent, cool off and got back out to her sunbathing.
Well, she is really going to miss it this year. No steps for our Emma. I think by next summer she will be OK to use the back steps but not as much as she wants to.
For now she has to settle for this little patch of sun!
Pooooooooooooor Emmers! LOL! She will be just fine. We have to protect those two back legs and that precious back!
More bathing beauties laying in slices of sunlight later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
Hound abuse!
You need to install one of those chairlifts to carry her majesty to the best sunshine! Poor Emma!!
I know Slinky likes to lay on my balcony or just inside the balcony doors in the sun. Slinky always looks so very content doing this.
I think Our Emma should be carried on a nice fluffy pillow to whereever she wants to be.
I’m sure the Mayor would agree. Maybe the Mayor should look into installing some moving sidewalks, and comfortable sofas in Basset Hound Town.
I agree with Cindy, Hound Abuse!!!!
Poor Emma King JB says Emma should be carried on a royal pillow to the sunshine and fed treats the whole time she is sunbathing
I agree that you should install one of those electric chair lifts for the stairs….and make the basket a throne….Emma is royalty!!!
emma needs those royal schlepp boys to carry her hither and yon…and to fetch the royal umbrella drinkies.
And what a beauty she is. Emmmmmmmmers we lubs you.
Kip, Gus, Bonnie and Charlir Bear
What a lovely girl! I think she deserves some sunshine.
My hounds make the most of the sun. It’s dark and dreary for half the year in Sweden that when the sun comes out they long to be outside.
Does a dog’s fur protect it from UV rays?
According to the July 2008 edition of The Bugler:
The intense light from the summer sun can
damage your pet’s skin, including sunburn.
“Pets with lighter-colored coats, especially
white or shaved animals, need to be kept out of
intense light,” Nelson said. “It’s best to keep
pets in the shade during peak hours and use
sunscreen or a protective jacket. Repeated sun
exposure often leads to a serious form of cancer
in white cats. Owners should be aware of
red patchy areas on the ears and nose.”

Jon – No the fur does not protect from UV Rays. Emma’s dermatologist does not like her out in the sun too much. I on the other hand feel it is a major joy I am not taking away from her. Sometimes when she is in a deep sleep I put a small porch umbrella over her. I need to get a picture of that! LOL
Hey Kerry (OM) – Thanks for that information. Can you send me the pdf for that jacket? It would not open for me. I will link it for everyone to look at. I need to get Emma one of those. I wonder if they are hot? I would really like to see that. I probably have that Bugler at the bottom of a major pile if the link is still not connecting for me! LOL
Cat
you need to add http://www. at the front of the bugler address (sorry).
They don’t have anything about a particular jacket though. There are pet shops online that carry uv protective gear for canines.
I really want one of those chair lifts. Emma and Grandpa could both use it! Plus I could put my groceries in it. LOL
Cat
Oh, I love the idea about using it for groceries!
