Famous Basset Hounds!

June 3rd, 2009 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and keeping track of the famous hound lovers! LOL!

I love keeping track of all things basset hounds and I have been wanting to do a sub blog category on famous basset hounds for a long time. I know all of our basset hounds are famous in their own right but his sub blog is some what different. I want to do features on bassets like, Boswell, Cleo, Hugo (Marilyn Monroe’s basset), bassets in movies and more. By more I mean basset hound that are heroes and sometimes touch us even more than the hounds in print or in the movies.

I thought it would be fun and touching! So, my graphic designer and I worked on a new header for this sub blog today. It is not up yet. There will be some fun flash details attached to it. I thought you might like to see it before it goes up as a header.

If you are wondering???????? Chaps and Emma will most likely wind up in this category at some point, but not now. They are not “famous” enough yet! Who knows what famous means? I have some pretty obscure stuff in my pocket.

I will look at published authors who showcase basset hound and movies that show our dear breed. It will be fun. I actually think Lily and Chloe qualify but they will be down on the list. I am pretty sure I will start with Boswell. He is my favorite famous basset!

boswell

It will be fun and I hope many of you will send in some famous hounds. Famous is all in a word. Do you have a story?

More famous stories later………Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I have never met Flash (from the Dukes of Hazzard) but I have met James Best (Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane!) and Sonny Shroyer (Deputy Enos Straight!) and we all talked at length about Flash (and I told them about Lucille, who was my only basset at the time). James Best said they always had to wake Flash up whenever it was time for a take, she slept all the time. And they used hot dogs to get her to bark and growl at Boss Hogg! James Best owned part interest in Flash to help her negotiate a good contract. Flash Coltrane definitely belongs in the hall of fame!!

How about the Hush puppy hound that represents the Hush Puppy shoes? I know there was a main hound in the 50’s and 60’s that they photographed. I just went to the hush puppy site and they have basset puppies on there! Too cute. I’m at work and don’t have time to investigate more about the original hush puppy dog. Sorry!

OOOh, the Hush Puppy hound! The most recent ad campaign featured some buppies from TriState Basset Hound Rescue’s alumni!! There was a lot written about it on the Daily Drool:)

I didn’t realize those puppies were from TriState! I try to read the drool as much as I can but sometimes I don’t have time. That’s too cool! I hope they gave some $$ to the rescue for using them!

Yep, lovely Sunny had buppies and they all got adopted at the Sept. picnic I was there, it was very emotional:) Anyroo, of them, 6 were chosen for the photo shoot: Eric Stevenson wrote:

“he advertising agency only wanted the 6 with the white blaze on their faces. The six that were chosen were Moose (formerly Cyclone), Thelma Lu (formerly Summer), Bacall (formerly Misty), Loki (formerly Thunder), Bella (formerly Halo), and Blue (formerly Slush)”

Chaps is too “famous enough” hasn’t he been the Grand Marshal of a parade.

Chaps shares wisdom dailey, in Wisenheimer Wisdow. He so sage and very wise.

Chaps believes that correction does much but that encouragement does MORE! He encourages every basset to get MORE treats.

Chaps also is a great leader! There is no gray area with Chaps. You know where you stand with the Mayor and if you don’t he’d be happy to tell you.

There’s the Maytag basset, Fred basset, Droopy Dog, LaFayete from the Aristocats. Yep cartoon nut! But us from BBR in Wisconsin must say “Boss Slinky” is up there with the Mayor.

Basset Hound in Smokey and the Bandit.

Cat I’m emailing you the link to Jason’s website (Jason is the Hushpuppy Shoe basset). I grew up near Rockford Michigan – the home of hushpuppy shoes. For as long as I can remember, when you get to Rockford, the first thing you see is a big billboard with a giant basset hound on it.

    Columbo’s basset.

The basset on coach that Jerry VanDyke pulled around in a wagon. Great line from the show (said by Coach Fox): “that’s not a dog, that’s the bag the dog came in”.d

Kerry I added the link here:
