Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and being prepared lovers: I just received this alert from my sister in Atlanta. Thanks Cindy.

A resident of BHT has just pointed out that this alert is listed as False on Snopes, thanks Kerry:

I was going to check snopes before posting this and I should have but I still think it is relevant. If nothing else, the bad guys could get ideas from this scam. I am still going to keep this alert up as a reminder to be careful in these uncertain times.

It could be another way desperate, evil people will try to trick you out of your car and the ones you love. Here is the ALERT!

START.

Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home, it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car Then we received this email yesterday:

WARNING FROM POLICE (THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN)

BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE–NEW WAY TO DO CAR JACKINGS

Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating… You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into Reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view.
When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.

So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

END.

Not only may your purse or wallet be in the car, but what about your hounds or family members. In my opinion, parking lots are the most dangerous places you can be in your car. I always take extra precautions while in them. Never let your guard down.

This has been a public service announcement from Basset Hound Town!

More keeping our residents safe later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

According this Snopes this has been in and out of e-mail boxes for five years. This is the first time I have seen it. It actually sounds like a pretty good way to trick someone. Almost every time I go into a massive parking lot to do some shopping at Krogers I get a huge filer from the Chinese place on my windshield.

Also, my big red flag is if there is a van next to my car. I never let the person I am with get in on that side. I pull out and then let the person in. I just don’t trust parking lots.

My nephew calls me the “Safety Woman” ! Hey, I like that name!

    hehehehehe

It’s too sad how people sit around and think of these stories and put out in the internet. Then your right Cat, someone will do it! So even if Snopes says it’s not true it sure gives people ideas. Especially in this economy. I’ve gotten to where I just go to the local Wal-Mart that is only a mile down the road from me. And I go between 7:00AM and 9:00AM. There’s not very many people there so you know if someone is following you or something is weird. I figure if Wal-Mart doesn’t have it then I don’t need it.
