Buttermilk needs a ride! UPDATE

July 23rd, 2009 - 8:08 am KY Time

UPDATE – 7-24-09 9:30AM

I always get so confused with transportation communications. I really, for the life of me, have no idea how these folks keep up with run sheets. Thank goodness there are people like that. I would never be able to that part of rescue. Anyway, I totally missed the part of the run that I am also taking a mini schnauzer named Pearl on my 2 legs ending in Columbus. That is if all legs get filled. 2 are still open.

Alrighty then! LOL – What a crew we will be! You know I will have plenty of pictures.

So here is our update. All legs are filled for Buttermilk but we still need to legs for little Pearl.

LEG 9: Ft Littleton, PA to Harrisburg, PA (I-76) PEARL ONLY

66 miles, 1 hour, 10 minutes

TIME: 6:20 pm to 7:30 pm

NEEDED:

LEG 7: Harrisburg, PA to Hamburg, PA (I-81 to I-78) (EST)PEARL ONLY

55 miles, 1 hour, 00 minutes

TIME: 7:40 pm to 8:40 pm

NEEDED:

These legs are not on the original blog posting because, well, I am a putz and cannot read a run sheet. Can you imagine if I showed up in Columbus without Pearl? Maybe my brain is filled with too much slobber.

So – to complicate things further, I am meeting a van full of bassets, including Buttermilk coming up from Georgia Basset Hound Rescue at 2:00am. Another van from All Bassets Cherished in NY is coming to pick up 6 – 8 bassets. I am just scooting over to grab Buttermilk who will get off in KY and head to HOP. I am pretty excited about seeing all the bassets and meeting the people.

Then, I take Buttermilk home and try to get a few hours sleep before I meet the person with the mini Schnauzer and head to Columbus, OH.

Whew………….

Well – There is your official update! I will be adding another one at noon.

Keep your paws crossed that we get those last 2 legs filled!

It just kills me that I’m never in a position to help with these transports. Hopefully it’ll all come together. If not, there’s always next weekend right? Cat, your metting at 2:00AM? Wow. Are you preparing the mayor and Emma for this change in sleep plans?

  2. July 23rd, 2009 | 5:31 pm

Cindy – I am so not loving this. I hate driving around when all of the drunks are letting out of bars. This area of town is full of the sleazy pub type of places. Not a good meeting time or place. A gas station near a park full of bums?????????

I totally understand that these good folks are driving 7 to 8 hours after work to meet. I love them for that.

I have not been out at 2AM since the collage days.

    Cat

  3. July 23rd, 2009 | 7:35 pm

Oh no. That’s not good. Are you going to be alone? Maybe you can drive around until they get there. Hopefully everybody will stay together and leave together. You don’t want to be out at 2:00AM walking a dog to pee and poop in that area alone! Oh geez. Pack the gun, mace, get brushed up on your karate, BE CAREFUL!

  4. July 23rd, 2009 | 7:46 pm

Yes, I will be alone at 2AM driving! But, the other transport folks will be there when I get there.

I agreed to pick up Buttermilk but I had no idea that it would be at 2AM. Now it looks like her transport will not go forward.

    Oh the joys of rescue!

Thank God for HOP! We will get her there come hell or high water!

    Cat

  5. July 23rd, 2009 | 7:55 pm

Man, I know if I were you’d I’d just want to get her there and get this over with. I’m glad they’ll be there when you get there. So, they’ll try for next weekend now? I wish I knew someone on that area. Has anyone advertised on the drool? Surely somebody on there is in that area.

  6. July 23rd, 2009 | 7:57 pm

Were you planning on traveling all night after you picked her up or were you bringing her home for the rest of the nite? Sorry for all the questions!

  7. Cat
    July 23rd, 2009 | 8:06 pm

Cindy – There is a transport. I only am picking her up at 2:00AM and bringing her back to my home but signed up to drive her to Columbus. I have to be in Columbus by noon. You can look at the run sheet to see who is doing what. It looks weak.

What do I do now? The run is not complete. What do I do with Buttermilk?

  8. July 23rd, 2009 | 8:30 pm

So, even though they don’t have the whole transport filled your still picking her up this weekend? Don’t they usually leave her where she’s at until the run sheet is full? Isn’t she at a shelter? I thought in one of your blogs a family took her to the vet then she went to a shelter. Of course I may be all off. And I guess each situation is handled differently. Another dog for a while would sure upset your household huh? The only other option I could think of would be for you to board her somewhere. Unless you have some friends that would temporarily keep her. Hey, how about the Outlaw!?

  9. July 23rd, 2009 | 8:37 pm

I meant a kennel. Isn’t she in a kennel? Wonder why she can’t stay there until all the legs are filled?

    I am working it……..

    I am so sleepy………..sigh

  11. July 23rd, 2009 | 8:48 pm

It’ll all work out. Sleep good tonite!

    July 23rd, 2009 | 8:54 pm

I am getting a bit miffed. I am waiting to see what will happen. Can someone make some thing happen?

    Will someone help rescue?

I cannot wait to see who!

So, any progress? Your problem is between Columbus OH and Somerset PA. I’m betting that Marilyn would go to Hagerstown MD and get Buttermilk if she had to. Dang, I wish I lived in the area! Too bad there’s not a kind hearted person with a personal plane that would fly her. Dream on huh? As Cat would say, “more dreaming later”.

  14. July 24th, 2009 | 8:12 am

Hi Cindy and anyone else reading this. Late last night another update came through. This particular transport person only updates the cross posters which I am not consider one of. Anyway, all of Buttermilks legs are filled but there is a mini Schnauzer named Pearl that is also traveling. For some reason I did not realize that. I thought I only had Buttermilk. The Schnauzer gets on in Lousiville and is being driven to me to hitch a ride until the end of the HOP legs. Then the Schnauzer is handed over to the last 2 legs ultimately ending in Parsippany NJ.

So, I did not put all of that in my blog posting, which I probably should have because I am pretty sure the run gets canceled today at noon if all of the legs are not filled for both dogs. So, this is what is missing for the Schnauzer:

LEG 9: Ft Littleton, PA to Harrisburg, PA (I-76) PEARL ONLY

    66 miles, 1 hour, 10 minutes

TIME: 6:20 pm to 7:30 pm

    NEEDED:

LEG 7: Harrisburg, PA to Hamburg, PA (I-81 to I-78) (EST)PEARL ONLY

    55 miles, 1 hour, 00 minutes

TIME: 7:40 pm to 8:40 pm

I think this is why it is so hard to get folks to drive for transports. Most people have to make plans on the weekends because of kids or whatever.

I am perfect for it because I never do anything. LOL

So – I am just drumming my fingers…….

No matter what, I think we can get Buttermilk over to HOP tomorrow.

Buttermilk is coming up in a caravan from GABR tonight no matter what. Someone from NY is driving down to get who is in the van. I am so confused. I cannot wait to see who is there this am at 2:00. I think about 7 or 8 bassets are coming. I will take zillions of pictures. Hopefully it’s not too dark.

Oh and one more thing. Marilyn with her friend Melynda are coming as far as Breezewood, PA. That is about 6 hours from me.

Oh Buttermilk, so many people love you.

    More loving Buttermilk later…….hehehe

  15. July 24th, 2009 | 10:25 am

So Cat, you’ll actually have “8 legs” …. and 8 paws of course too!

    😉
