Did you know the Mayor is a Champion in the dog show world?

July 31st, 2009 - 9:09 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Chaps being a Champion Lover! Did you know that Chaps has his championship AKC – BHCA title? I think he got his about 5 years ago. I asked his breeder, when I got him, for all of his ribbons so I could display them for him. He worked hard for those. I am so glad to have them.

I want to hang them all around this poster I did of him years ago but I have not had it printed yet. I am so glad I did not have it printed because now I want to change it. I don’t want his AKC title name on the poster I want his real name….

CHAMPION CHAPS WAYNE RUDERT OF VERNON

Wayne is his Grandpa’s middle name and Vernon is the name of the street we live on. Chaps has NOTHING to do with BoBac or Birnam anymore and that is not his name.

I will show you the finished product soon….

More blue ribbon moments later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

This is a great idea, but I think you should add that he is presently the Mayor or Basset Hound Town.

I’m so surprised that they gave you his ribbons! I wouldn’t have even asked cuz I would have thought that the whole reason for them showing him and all would be to get those ribbons to show off and to use as reference for others to buy future dogs. But I’m so glad you have them! How neat! I had someone that wanted to show Jethro so bad that she said she’d do it for free. But she said she’d have to keep him for a week or more to get him trained. I actually went to her house to check it out and it was just awful. With about 20 hounds and other dogs she was training in small kennels stacked 2 high in bedrooms in her house. Her back yard was as big as my bathroom and was all dog poop and dirt. And her house smelled like dog urine and feces even though I didn’t see any. There’s no way I was going to leave my baby boy there for even a few hours much less a week. I think he would have done pretty good cuz he is a pretty hound if I should say so myself. But I don’t think he would have been good enough to compete with the big dogs.

By the way, the Mayor looks so beautiful in that picture. He is the perfect hound! Of course now he’s the perfect Mayor too. Ha!

Cindy, this breeder is huge and she only displays the gigantic blue ribbons in the area where she shows off her puppies. Chaps ribbons were tossed up in the attic and it took her forever to find them. I had to hound her for months before she sent them to me. If I had to fly to TX to get them from her I would have. They were his ribbons and I wanted him to have them. He worked hard for them. My Dad has one on his night stand next to a picture of Chaps.

I am not in the show world, but I surely respect what he accomplished.

It sounds like the place you went to was a nightmare. I certainly hope they were not BHCA members.

Jethro is so handsome and he could compete at any level.

Oh, thanks for the compliment on the picture. It was taken at a dog show before I knew him.

I am glad that you have Chap’s ribbons. He did work hard for them in the ring , I am sure. I just now have gotten a chance to read the whole story on your blog, and I am so sorry for all you and your sweet bassets have gone through. Mostly I am happy that Chaps and Emma are with you because you truely love and appreciate them. Looking forward to seeing the finished poster and Chaps ribbons.

Unfortunately Cat, I’m sure she’s a member. She shows every year here in Houston. I’m sure it is almost impossible to keep a house from smelling like dog and dog waste with as many as she had. But she shouldn’t have had so many. She lived in a sub division! Heck, I’ve got almost 1/4 of an acre and there’s no way that I’d ever attempt to have more than 4 dogs and 4 is really more than I’m comfortably with. I just fostered Oz and Harriet for a year and nobody wanted them. By that time we had bonded with them and then we couldn’t let them go.

Sometimes I think these people that show dogs should have their facilities/homes inspected.

I’m so glad you “hounded” her for those ribbons since they were just collecting dust and not being displayed. Your right. They are Chaps and he has the right to display his hard work and accomplishments. You, Chaps and even Emma should all be proud! And I know y’all are. Give that big handsome hunk of a hound a big slobbery kiss for me! And give Emma a soft smooch.

By the way…how did the get CHAPS out of his registered name? It’s not the initials.

Cindy – That is really sad. To have that many hounds living in those conditions. Just a down right shame. I agree that if you sign an ethical contract to be a part of a club like BHCA you need to be held accountable.

Basset Hound Rescues are responsible enough to hold home visits for the most part, it would be a good idea for breed clubs as well.

I know there are so many great breeders that would agree with me.

Cindy – I did not get him out of his registered name. I have just deemed him a new name. Far, Far away from that horrible breeder named BoBac. I would rather hurl than look at that name in my office every day.

Mom to the Mayor – Chaps Rudert!

Hi Debbie! I am so glad you are able to get back on the blog. I did go through some really tough times but we are a pack. That means all of us in bassethoundtown. Chaps and Emma love sharing their stories which are rich and many!

I am looking forward to getting Chaps poster printed and hanging his ribbons. He is Best of Show everyday in our home! (Showing us how to open the fridge!) LOL
