Who done it??? A basset hound town mystery! Who Chewed the Shoe?
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and shoe mystery lovers! This is just the oddest thing ever. I am trying to unravel a real life head scratcher! THE MYSTERY OF, WHO CHEWED THE SHOE!?!
OK, here are the facts and nothing but the facts:
1.) I was gone most of the day yesterday. I “play bridge” with 3 friends. I left at 10:00ish wearing these shoes, minus the teeth marks………
Grandma was in charge of the kids so they were very happy.
2.) I arrived back home at approximately 4:00ish. The kids had been fed and were very happy. A severe storm was approaching Northern KY and Chaps was getting ready to freak out.
3.) I changed clothes and left the shoes in question laying in my bedroom, on the floor.
4.) The storm lasted for most of the night and Chaps and I logged about 3 miles of walking in the house. It seems to be the only thing that calms him. We were both exhausted.
5.) During storms Chaps likes to go into my bedroom and try to climb on top of things. He also likes to nibble on various items like clothes, pillows, or toys. I cannot recall if I had the door to the bedroom shut. It would have been very odd not to have done that because I don’t like him climbing on things.
6.) The shoes in question were walking around my friends house and she has cats.
7.) Chaps, to my knowledge has never chewed a shoe.
8.) Emma has chewed almost everyone of mine but not for years.
9.) I never saw Emma in my room, but she is pretty sneaky.
10.) I did see Chaps go in my room this morning.
11.) I was in and out of my room several times today, and never saw the chewed shoe until about an hour ago?
12.) When I picked up the shoe, Chaps was looking at me. I said his name in a really long low voice and said, “Did you chew Mommy’s shoe?” Immediately his tail went between his legs and he sulked away. May not prove anything more than him not liking the way I said his name. We all know how delicate he is.
A closer look at the evidence……
They are not talkin………
So, who do you think is the guilty party and chewed the shoe? I am leaning toward Emma because past behavior is a great predictor of future behavior. REMEMBER THIS?
More wondering later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
You do have a “smoking gun” and you may want to get Inspector Doolittle on the case. However I suspect the cats. You know how sneaky cats are! I think Chaps was in the wrong place and the wrong time; but I believe the Mayor and Our Emma are innocent.
I agree with Maureen. It had to be the cats, they cannot be trusted. Sweet Emma and the dignified Mayor would NEVER do such a thing. Short of DNA testing or a hidden nanny (basset) cam, we will never know for sure. I do hope you’ve apologized to Chaps for speaking so unkindly to him, and after such a long stormy night. Poor Chaps.
The cats! By george I really never thought of that. They could have done it. OMG! I was just thinking about the smell factor.
OK – that’s it! The cats did it in the drawing room with the butcher knife!
hehe
Except if the cats did it, you would have felt it when you went home.
Colonel Mustard perhaps?
Chaps and Emma are innocent
Maybe it is time for DNA testing!
“He also likes to nibble on various items like clothes, pillows, or toys.” Uh, yeah. Mystery solved. Sorry Chaps.
My vote is with Emma…just look at how she didn’t like it when you came back with those blue crocs when you did a transport…she must not like cats either since you just came back from a friend’s house that has cats..HUM?
Poor Emma:)
Just wanted to say Cat that I enjoy your website. Also, wanted to let you know that perhaps your could add the http://www.newenglandbassethoundrescue.org/ to your list of great and helpful sites. They do a wonderful job for the bassets in the area!
Also, Woofstock 2009 – the seventh annual”Basset Waddle” is right around the corner which raises money for rescued hounds.
Thanks,
BBL
Yes, bostonbassetlover! Of course I will. I will go do that right now. Thanks for the updates. Sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment. It was stuck in moderation because of the link! I will certainly add you!
Cat
Hey friend you guys on the list of rescue sites via my links page! I was sure of it after I saw your T-shirt, it is one of my favorites! We love you! Cat, Chaps and Emma
What we need is someone who can match the bite marks. And then do a dna test. However, if it was Chaps – I believe he could plead that he was under extreme stress due to the storms.
I say you need to get Julian in one case. I bet he could solve it!
I agree with you Candy – Julian could solve it in a heart beat. I bet he still can the next time he comes over!
Cat
I say put the shoe/evidence in a plastic bag and save for Julian. Also, you may want to look for reminants of doggie hair in the area of the defaced item.
This could be the result of bad behavior by a slave of the Bassets Chaps and Our Emma. This slave (we won’t mention any names) could have been remiss regarding treats, walks, comfort, etc. Perhaps this was the only way the Bassets could get their slave back in line.
Just exploring motives.
Good point Maureen! I think Julian needs that bit of information for his investigation too.
Have u cnsidered the grandma? No one would suspect her and she could cover her tracks better than Emma and Chaps. She had opportunity, motive (she liked the shoes) and an alibi more or less. I say bribe Chaps and Emma to get the truth out of them even if they are the guilty ones!
