Ever wonder what a basset dalmatian mix looks like?
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and wondering what some mixes look like lovers! I guess, it would be your classic mutt. Oh how I love a classic mutt. Anyway, this litter came from the rural areas in the middle of nowhere OK. My friend, Chris Dowd helped rescue the Mom and Dad, both bassetmatians. The Mom and Dad have been adopted but the pups are still looking for homes. There should be no problem placing them but I had to show you how cute beyond belief they are.
If it were not for the Mayor, who is really over the whole puppy thing, this little girl might have had my name all over her. I think I would have called her Gracie, for her gray face.
Can you believe how utterly cute she is? Emma would have loved her to pieces.
I have just confirmed the age old question of, “is there love at first sight?” Yes, age old questioners, yes indeed!
Let’s hope that this little girl gets adopted by someone who lets us keep up with my unrequited love!
More loving Gracie later…..Cat, Chaps and Emma
Oh my doG! What an adorable combination!
oh she is too cute…she would so fit in with mr cooper the bassetter he in the land of stumpy pets!
Too precious! These remind me of some mixes that BBRofTX had recently. I think they were Blue Heeler mix with hound or something like that. They were real freckled like these too.
They are cute, but they do look a little odd.
Very cute indeed. Wonderful.
I would like to know how to train this breed. I have a male, named Noorton and is is about 2 1/2 years old. He is extremely stubborn and high strung, a combination of both the bassett and the dalmation. I would love to have some pointers. I am from British Columbia, Canada and I rescued Noorton from the SPCA
Hi Sam!
I had 10 bassamation pups who will be 1 next month. All are adopted out but their families tell me they are all wusses. Only use the reward system – punishment will never, ever work. Norton will probably not do something to please you unless there is something in it for him.
Be patient – they can be very stubborn.
I’d love to see a pic if you have one.
Chris
I have adopted a basset hound/dalmatian and Iam so please I did so. Shes a awsome dog. I have yet to see another dog like her til I came across this website. THEY ARE SO CUTE. I want another one but cant seem to find em in california
Sharlene – I forwarded your comment to the gal who rescued these beauties. I know they are all adopted, but you never know what she might find in the future. Please send me a picture of your hound if you can! I would love to see him or her?
Cat, Chaps and Emma
I have one named black head Betty. She looks like this litter.
Hey mekaylah – I would love to see pictures. I think this mix is sooooooo cute!

Where can i get a bassetmatian?
My family and I have been looking everywhere but we just can’t seem to find one.
If you know any places within 50 mi of D.C. that would be terrific
Hi Courtney –
I am so sorry that I do not know of any other bassetmations. This litter was from AZ. I work in basset rescue and was helping AZ place these pups.
I will ask my contact out there if she knows of any others. It is not a “designer” hound as per say like the Labradoodle. A bassetmation is a mutt. No one that I know of breeds them for this look.
The mix is not a healthy in the long run. Dalmatians have hearing loss and Bassets are prone to glaucoma.
However, if I ever run across another one I will let you know if you want me to?
They are ADORABLE!
I would have scooped one up had I not had a very protective big male that will not allow me another hound!
His name is Chaps Rudert! LOL
Cat
Oh my goodness! I just happened to stumble across this. I have a 5 year old bassettmatian or whatever you want to call them that is the BEST dog that I have ever had, and I have had a LOT of dogs. I really want to breed her if it’s possible, but I’m having a hard time finding a mate. I didn’t have any problems training mine, she is one of the smartest dogs ever. The comment about the positive reinforcement is definitely true. If we do ever have an issue punishment isn’t necessary, she is usually hiding in her “safe spot” before I even figure what she has done.
Kim, IMO you should never breed this mix. Dalmatians are fraught with deafness and Bassets are fraught with blindness. So, not a great mix to breed. Just my opinion. I am a huge rescue person so I think most dogs should be spayed or neutered. Please don’t breed. Again, just my opinion! Thanks for the comment!
I have two rescues. Our “shorty” as we call him is clearly a Basset mix. “Mixed with what?”, you may ask. We believe that he is mixed with IRISH WOLFHOUND. Now, talk about two breeds that should never be mixed. Logistically I’m not even sure how it happened, but all I can say is that “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” Poor shorty has badly deformed front legs and bilateral luxating patellas….and THE BIGGEST head! He’s gorgeous in the goofiest way and we absolutely adore him.
Jes – you have to send me a picture. I wanna see Shorty! Sounds too cute!
So… Found this thread while looking for information on our 8.5 month old Basset Hound/Dalmation.
We got her in Long Island from the North SHore Animal League on Saturday, and she’s a sweetheart.
Shockingly smart, and not high-strung at all. Sweet and, not-exactly docile, but mellow.
Pretty sure my dog Rio is a dalmation Bassett mix. He looks just like those pictures.
Had him for 13 years and everyone can’t get enough of how cute he is everytime he meets someone new.
We rescued a dalmation/basset in Tulsa OK one year ago. Her name is Freckles. Black and white like these. Wondering if she was from this litter or another from the same parents. Any more photos of pups from this litter?
These were from Chris Dowd’s rescue. All Ears Basset Rescue. These are the only pictures I have. I would love to see Freckles. Thank you for the comment. Hope to hear back from you!!!
