Twas a rough night for our friend Scully:(
Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Scully Lovers!
This just in from the Monster herself……
Well, I just knew things were going a little too smoothly…sigh. I had an awful night, and am currently at the vet for the day, and possibly overnight tonight.
Last night was quite scary and nobody got any sleep around here! I seemed ok when I got home from chemo, but then within an hour, started wanting to go out to pee all the time. Then, I didn’t touch my dinner, and refused treats and my pills (which I usually happily devour since they are hidden in yummy stuff). I didn’t want to drink either, and started peeing in the house. Basically, I was just laying around all night like a miserable lump, panting and breathing heavy.
My humans tried to force water into my mouth with a syringe, which I really did not appreciate. I’m dehydrated today though, so the vet wanted me to stay there for the day to get fluids. Hopefully, they can make me feel better and find out if something else is going on.
It could be that my body is rebelling against having the weekly chemo, and it’s just too much for me. I was supposed to do another session next week, but we’ll see.
If anyone has any spare drool to fling in my direction, I could really use it now more than ever!
Luv and licks,
Scully
More drooling from Kentucky later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Oh, Cat, you are so sweet to post about my Scully girl…thank you!
I spoke to the vet a little while ago, and it sounds like Scully has perked up a wee bit but is still not herself. They joked that when she starts barking at them, then they’ll know she is really feeling better. That’s so true.
We are still awaiting the full bloodwork results because something went wonky with their equipment, so they ended up having to send a sample out to another lab instead. From the incomplete results they did manage to get, the Scullinator’s pancreatic enzymes appear to be slightly elevated, but they didn’t want to jump to the pancreatitis conclusion quite yet.
Anyhow, we are to call in a couple hours to see how she is, and if she needs to stay there overnight. I have a feeling they’ll want to keep her because if she does indeed have pancreatitis, she’ll definitely need to stay on the IV fluids.
Thanks to each of you for the drool, prayers, and crossed pawsies!!!!
Mary

Mary, do you have any updates for us?
Cat
This just in from Scully’s Mommy……
Hi Cat,
First of all thanks for being so supportive and caring about my houndie girl!! She is my world, and I’ve been so worried about her. It means a lot to me to know that others out there care about her and understand how hard all this is.
I had never heard of “tumor lysis syndrome” before either…wish I still never have. From what I understand, it occurs when the chemo kills off cancer cells too fast. The stuff that comes out of the dying cells gets into the system and causes all sorts of problems as the body tries to get rid of them. It can cause organ failure, particularly kidney failure.
Some of the levels in Scully’s bloodwork made them suspicious of this syndrome, and also the fact that her lymph nodes have shrank a lot just since Wednesday. That is really fast. The vet did say that Scully is not in actual kidney failure though…or maybe I just heard what I wanted to hear.
So, now, she stays on fluid therapy at the vetspital and we have to wait until she is really stable enough to bring her home. They said that she may be able to come home tonight, then check her out first thing tomorrow morning and keep her there again if necessary. I have a feeling it is probably better for her to stay there overnight though.
As for the rest of her treatment, I don’t know what we’ll do now. She was scheduled for one more IV injection next week. I don’t think that can happen quite so soon, if at all. We’ll just have to wait and see.
This is really awful! We feel so bad for our poor sweet girl.
I read that Chaps had a cyst burst on your walk. Those things can be really nasty when they burst, and of course it always happens at the most inconvenient time or place! I hope it heals up ok.

Just in from Scully’s Mom………
I’m not entirely sure anything I’m writing makes much sense these days, lol. I get a little wacky when I’m stressed out.
We actually have her home now for the night!! I was surprised when they called and said “come get her”. I’ve never been so happy to see the furry squish, and hear her barking and howling away! Right now she’s resting comfortably on the futon, which is good.
She’s not quite out of the woods yet though. Tomorrow morning, we have to bring her back for more supportive care. We are very lucky that she has a seemingly mild form of this syndrome. The vet flat out told us that some dogs die from it, which I already knew from the reading the internet.
Mary……..
Mary- we are keeping Scully in our thoughts and prayers. I can’t even imagine what your going through. We had one hound with Addisons D. and one with brain tumor and then one with cancer. Its the hardest thing to see your loved ones go through such things. May God keep you and Scully in His care.
Wanda slave to Sir Henri and Miss Riley
Lots of drool and prayers from here for the beautiful Scully.
Please let Slinky know if there is anything you need from the BETU.
