Did you hear about this? Pregnant Basset in danger – KY Shelter?
UPDATE WITH PICTURE AND GOOD NEWS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST!
Howllo Fellow Hound and NOT pregnant basset lovers! This was on some of the boards and the drool, here is the post from Susan of Bluegrass Basset Hound Rescue!
I just got a call from a shelter that they have a very pregnant young
female basset. This dog will die if we cannot pull her, and we cannot
pull her with no place to put her. Is there anyone out there–feel free
to cross post this far and wide–willing to take on a Mama and babies?
My kids would love it—but I am at my limit while the Soldier Daddy
is here (not to mention my parents.)
It just occurred to me today that we have our own House of Puddles thing
going on here at Bluegrass, given that we have 15 senior bassets in
our system.
We are drowning, just without the water….

If you saw my postings about a pregnant basset in Madisonville, KY, be aware that she is no longer there. She is HERE, along with the 10 surviving puppies!! “Delilah” is resting snug and warm with her babies in a swimming pool filled with blankets in my daughters’ bed room. Here she is. She is scheduled to go to foster care tomorrow…..pray the weather holds!
Wow, what a story! Thanks Susan. Keep us posted. Love ya, wouldn’t wanna be ya!

P.S. I told Susan she was a wonder woman and her reply was:
“A very tired wonder woman! I had to be in Russellville, KY (45 min east) to give a foster home one of my dogs at 9 AM. Then I had to rush back to get Delilah. I was thinking I just had a fat girl to deal with but the puppies couldn’t wait, I guess. I was hoping they wouldn’t have to be born all alone in a shelter (they DID have a blanket on the floor) but Jesus did OK and He was born in a stable 🙂
So, we’re up to 18 canines, 2 cats and 1 goldfish. Please advise me on the closest nuthouse!
Susan 🙂
She is tired and funny!

Thanks for the pics & the update!
I know Susan didn’t think the pups would arrive quite this soon – but I’m so glad they are all cozy on blankets in a bedroom rather than on the cement floor in the shelter.
We sending good weather drool for tomorrow’s transport!
I just enlarged the pic and got a closer look at the pups. Wonder who see was “fooling around” with..
5 of the babies are black and white (one has brown eyebrows) and 5 are black and tan. No telling what they’re mixed with–although coonhounds can be both color schemes….
Coonhounds? I love coonhounds! How KY can you get? Keep us posted Susan. I just updated my blog with your PayPal donation link. Please folks, if you are reading this, please consider giving to Bluegrass this holiday season. They need money so bad. Thanks!

How truly wonderful she was able to come to you in her very real hour of need! Bless you all. I’ve been following the story since yesterday and am so glad things are stable, she has delivered safely and she will have a foster home to snuggle with her puppies in. Susan, you are a saint and a wonderwoman both! You can count on our support here at All Paws Crossed both financially and spiritually!
Wow, what a story. The power of love. Love is not love until you turn it into an action word. That is what you all have done!

Wow, what pawsome messages for Susan at Bluegrass. I just love a happy start!

The puppies and Mom spent spent only one night in my house but it was significant. They all have names now (Eve, Tinsel, Peppermint, Natalie, Noel, Doc, Snorts, Tinkles, Bruno and Holly) and they survived the night thanks to my 9 and 10 yr old daughters, Juliana and Bridget. Some puppies were unable to get enough suckling time, so I moved some to a box with a heating pad and started rotating babies with Delilah in the swimming pool. At around 9:30 PM I was exhausted so I told the girls that I was going to bed and for them to be prepared for the possibility that puppies might not survive the night (Delilah kept sitting on them.) At 4:15 AM I woke up and thought, with dread, I’d better go down and check on them. Well, I opened the door to my daughters’ room and found not only the light on, but Bridget sitting in the pool with the puppies! She chirped, “All of the puppies are OK! Juliana and I took shifts to stay up and make sure they didn’t get squished .” Even though they knew they had to be up and ready to leave for church by 7:30 AM (so we could get the puppies to the foster home on time), these two youngsters put in 4 hours each thru the night to keep these babies alive. I couldn’t be prouder 🙂 I never even suggested this to them! Future rescuers!!!
