Sweet, Sweet Pink Greenbrier:)

October 16th, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and OMD the Greenbrier is just like heaven lovers. I just love, love, love it. Just magical. The cool thing is that it is one hour away from VMI. I was so excited to take the hounds. The Greenbrier has a pet policy but I found the resort to be very welcoming of my hounds for the several hours we were on site walking around.
Here is their policy.

PET POLICY

IMG_9617

First off Grandma and I pulled up to the front door.

IMG_9622

We each took a separate, self guided tour while the other one stayed with the hounds. OMD! Jaw dropping beauty is all I can say of the restored resort redone in the original vision of Dorothy Draper.

Sweet Pink and Green rooms make you want to eat them with a spoon.

IMG_9628

Oh howl I long for a pink room…..

IMG_9626

But a dog friendly pink pathway outside of the resort will do just fine.

Step to the left….

IMG_9652

Step to the right….

IMG_9653

My Darlings….

Pink trees whisper amongst the perfect green grass………

IMG_9638

Pink dreams underneath green canopy angels and earth hound angels…………

IMG_9633

The trees glow pink at the Greenbrier at any given moment in time….

Off weeeeeeeeee go!

October 14th, 2010 - 10:10 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and weeeeeeeeeeee lovers! I cannot believe that today is the day of our trip. We have been planning this adventure for about 7 months. The timing worked out great because I was able to have a friend of mine come and stay at my home. He is doing some much needed maintenance around the homestead. His wife is looking for a job in the area so it is going to be a win win for all of us.

We loaded up early and off weeeeeeeeeeee went like a herd of turtles!

IMG_9603

Charleston, WVA here we come!

IMG_9605

We packed a lunch and a dinner. The kids did so good. They were so comfy in their beds. Chaps had his worry bed and I bought Emma one to match.

Emma had a bit of a ruff time when Grandma left and went to her room next door.

As you can see I am watching Project Runway…Love it!

IMG_9609

She finally gave in and explored the room.

IMG_9610

I cannot tell the residents howl absolutely incredible Emma is doing with all of these new places. She is such an inspiration.

Of course her security blanket did not hurt! LOL

IMG_9614

OMD! I am so excited about the 30 item free breakfast tomorrow!

More dreaming of waffles later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

The kids are ready and raring to go!

October 13th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and ready and raring to go lovers! Well, I know 2 kids that fit that bill! Since I do a fair amount of rescue transports I know howl important paperwork is. If you travel with hounds make sure you have everything in order.

IMG_9594

I have the kids health records that show their vaccines and their home again records. You should always, always travel with a picture of your hounds in the case of the worst case scenario. Make sure you write the number of your vet right on the paper work.

IMG_9596

If you have home again yellow tags make sure you can see the numbers. My kids have them but they were worn out. I ordered 2 more, 8 bucks a piece. It takes about 2 weeks to get them so do it early. I also had my vet scan each kid to make sure the numbers matched.

Some hotels require a rabies certificate. Also, if you get pulled over you want all of your paper work in order.

I call it belt and suspenders…

You can never be too safe.

More safe travels with your hounds later…Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I just added a new song for our trip!

October 2nd, 2010 - 9:09 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and kinda wanting to hear the songs I am making for our trip! Hear is the latest selection!

I love howl Mr. Cash moves!

More loving great songs later! Cat, Chaps and Emma

Blueridge Parkway picture of the day!

September 30th, 2010 - 12:12 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Blue ridge Parkway Lovers……

I was just on Twitter, being a twit, and the Blue ridge Parkway posted a picture of the day! Howl pretty!

milepost-303-l

Looks like the leaves are really turning fast. They must be getting much more rain than we are. Basset hound town is under a severe drought and our pretty fall colors will be sorely lacking this year.

But look at this picture of the day! Taken 2 years ago on this very day! Our dear, trusted Mayor by the Mums…..

IMG_7559

Look at that chop area! Dreamy!

More pretty pictures later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

I am making a few CDs for our Trip to the BlueRidge Parkway!

September 23rd, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hounds and all of us needing music on our up coming trip lovers. I cannot tell you howl many songs I have bought off of ITunes. I just love it beyond belief. I started a new category of songs that I buy. Maybe you might like them as well. I don’t have an IPod. I buy the songs and then burn them on CDs for my BHV! Otherwise I just listen to them on my lap top. Here is one I bought last night.

Beyonce’s Sister, Solange – Sandcastle

Nothing like a good disco song to get things moving on the Parkway! hehehe

More knowing that Emma is not fragile later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

PS – If you want to download this from ITunes make sure you get the version you want. This one is 4:28 minutes long, and not the remix!

Dog friendly road trips with bassethoundtown.com

September 17th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and dog friendly road trips with bassethoundtown.com lovers!

As many of my readers know I have different headers for different subblogs on my website. I am working on this new header. I think it will be cool to have since Grandma and I take so many trips with the kids. The big one is coming up to the Blue Ridge Parkway! We are so excited! Guess What? The Blue Ridge Parkway just followed me on Twitter! I think that is really cool!

OK, so here is the first pass at the new header! What do you think?

IMG_9333

All of our posts when we travel with the kids will be categorized into this header, like when I do other categories like movies, house of puddles, my radio show and so forth.

I am kind of hoping that this category will help a lot of folks traveling with hounds! I know there are many sites out there that do this but mine will be fun for our residents!

Let’s go!

IMG_2217

What are we waiting for?

IMG_2225

So……. we are off like a herd of turtles! Hehehehe

Off we go! To Augusta, Kentucky!

September 12th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Hound Friendly Road Trip Lovers.

Well, we are always and forever one of those! Here is the Mayor loading up!

IMG_9235

Emma needs a bit of assistance so she does not fall off the ramp. Other than that she is a pro!

IMG_9239

Augusta, KY is about an hour away from our home in Northern Kentucky. George Clooney graduated from high school in Augusta and I believe his parents still live there. Rosemary Clooney always kept a home in Augusta.

It is such a wonderful little town. Grandma and I found our dream home but we need to to win the lottery first. I will show you that later.

First off we stopped at the Spring Grove Dairy Bar for lunch. We brought our own lunch. They have picnic tables in the back and it is just too cute. It is on the way to Augusta on River Road. The train blows right by tooting it’s horn to all of the ice cream eaters! Gotta love KY!

Please let me fill in a bit of a back story here. Recently, in the news there was a story about a family that lives behind the dairy bar that has 4 or 5 dogs over their city limit. One of them is a basset hound which I found out today is named Bruce! I heard his owner yelling for himz…

I was hoping to see Bruce and maybe talk to his family but I only saw Bruce. Well, he saw us before we saw himz!

IMG_9243

Bruce saw Chaps and Chaps saw Bruce and all hell broke loose!

IMG_9242

Bruce was only protecting his back yard so the Mayor and Emma stayed in the car. It was fine. It was only about 20 minutes from home and I kept the back end up. Bruce kept an eye on us as we had or picnic!

IMG_9245

Emma kept a nose on Bruce!

IMG_9251

I need to check on the story. I hope the city worked with them. Judy, have you heard anything? The family got in trouble for not obeying City Dog Ownership Ordinance Laws. It got a lot of attention a few weeks ago. Anyway, I will check on it. Bruce is a fine looking hound!

Then we took off for Augusta. It is such a pretty drive but if you take it be careful. It is a 2 lane road that is not in very good condition.

We arrived and parked near the ferry that crosses the OH river. A lot of fine looking Harleys were in town today. You can see some loading onto the ferry so they can cross over into OH.

IMG_9254

Then we walked down the lane and this was the perfect spot to stop and take a picture of the Mayor. White picket fence and all! So bassethoundtown!

IMG_9262

Wait up Emma and Grandma!

IMG_9292

There they go!

IMG_9257

Off to our DREAM HOME! Wow, we found the coolest home ever! Check it out and it’s for sale!

IMG_9270

River front! Is it not the coolest? I turned around after I took this picture and this is what you see!

IMG_9272

This is your view! Just PERFECT BEYOND BELIEF!

It is HUGE! Look at the side yard!

IMG_9276

Yes, that is a screened in porch with the same river view. See that dwelling in the back? It is the garage. There is another home on the property as well.

IMG_9290

This one is pretty big as well but more run down. It is not a part of the listing but “available” which to me means the negotiation point. Of course you want this if you buy the home!

So, before you click on the listing take a guess at the price. Leave me a comment and tell me what you thought before you checked.

Grandma guessed 850,000. I guessed 1.2 million. Then I got home and googled it!

301 W. Riverside Drive, Augusta, KY

Please, let me know what you think?????

After we mooned over the river front property we went and sat on a bench up the street a bit. We could see our dream but we just could not reach it! That’s OK.

IMG_9285

TOMORROW I WILL DREAM AND REMEMBER!

Rosemary was George’s Aunt. The house she lived in is right down the way. It is now a museum in her honor. I grew up on her voice. I mooned over her as well. I was a little girl watching her on TV. What great memories.

IMG_9298

What a great day!

More tomorrows later……Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

Oh dear me…I went to AAA today, talk about the dark ages!

September 7th, 2010 - 6:06 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and AAA lovers. I really am one of those but direction experts they no longer are, at least at my local AAA. I am trying to get a jump on our trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandma and I worked on it off and on all weekend. The kids helped as we labored over the Internet and books trying to find dog friendly hotels. Not an easy task. But, endeavor I did for my sweet kids!

“Mommy, don’t forget our treats”!

IMG_2089

I love trip tiks and after all of our research, mapquests and google we marched off to AAA. What a joke. Anyway, we got a portion of our tik and I will make sure it is buttoned up before we leave. I will also have a Mapquest and we are buying a GPS.

There was a huge victory over the weekend! Look at the dog friendly place (no weight limit) I found and we are staying here in Asheville, NC! Can you believe it? Not quite the Biltmore but dog friendly is much better! Dog friendly is opulence to us!

We are excited beyond belief! The kids and I are staying in the Snuggle INN! hehehe You can bet we will be snuggling! Grandma is in the next door cabin! The midnight roost! Now this is living!

More trip planning later…..Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma

P.S. 90% of the hotels we called only accept dogs 40 pounds and under. I was like, “do you weigh them?” They were not too amused with me…..

Mt. Airy Forest, 4 paws up – Cincinnati Park extraordinaire for hounds and humans!

September 4th, 2010 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and City Park Lovers….

I am just amazed at howl many parks are in our immediate area to explore. I am a huge fan of parks and I love learning all about them. I watched a show last night about the parks of Cincinnati, not to be confused with the parks of Hamilton County where Cincinnati is located. I was shocked at the parks that I had never even heard of and the ones I had heard of that I have never even visited! The one that caught my eye off the bat was Mt. Airy Forest. So, I called Grandma and told her to gear up and we would go to
Mt. Airy forest today!

No morning nap for the kids, there was fun to be had!

I bet this kid does not get an early morning nap!

IMG_9133

His name is Diesel. He is a Belgium Malinois. He was training with his partner. It was really cool the Officer was speaking German to his partner!

IMG_9136

We spent about 20 minutes talking to the Officer about his first canine partner. Come to find out his family does blood hound rescue. What a wonderful interaction. Chaps got all big bad boy dog inside the car, crying and carrying on, so Officer Scott had to put Diesel in to the squad car. It was pretty funny! Officer Scott had the best time petting the kids!

It was so cool! Then we found our picnic spot!

IMG_9140

Chaps was on the look out for Officer Diesel!

Mt. Airy is an old growth forest right in Cincinnati. It is over 1400 acres huge. Just stunning. Dogs are welcome and the park is also famous for a large dog park. We did not go because Chaps is not into that. Grandma said that would be like fitting a square peg into a round hole! (Chaps is the square peg!) hehehe

So we took off on our walk and I warned Grandma, “Emma maybe a bit scared because she has never been here before.” No sooner than the words were out of my mouth Emma moved to the front of our group and lead the way. It was so incredible. It was like she heard me.
“Look at me Mommy, I am NOT scared!”

IMG_9176

One of the main reasons I was excited about visiting Mt. Airy Park was for this tree house that was erected recently.

IMG_9144

What a special place. The entire project was built to be wheelchair accessible for disabled children.

As you can see the pathway is huge and wide!

IMG_9147

It was a perfect day. About 70 degrees. We were the only ones in the tree house for a time. It was just magical! Then we met a 4 year old little girl named Emma! hehehe – more magic!

IMG_9152

The kids loved it.

IMG_9166

This tree house was totally 4 paws up!

IMG_9169

We walked, and walked! We are trying to build all of our stamina up for our trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway! The kids did great.

Howl ever….They were sure ready to get back to the Basset Hauling Vehicle!

IMG_9177

Emma is waving goodbye! Hope you had fun on our road trip!

More napping all the way home later….Love, Cat, Chaps and Emma
