November 20th, 2013 - 12:12 pm KY Time

UPDATE – LOST DOG IS FOUND DOG!!!!

Yes, fellow residents and rescue lovers our very own “Benson” is now in the loving arms of himz Mommy.  I will do another blog tonight and tell the story.  It is really cool howl this all came together so quickly.  Amazing really.

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and all breed rescue lovers!  Look who just wondered into bassethoundtown!

Lostdog

What kind of dog is this do you think?

Lostdog2

I thought he looked like an Australian Cattle Dog but I googled that and, no.  He is very friendly and young.  Poor guy!

I am going to feed him a little bit, harness him up and take him down to Dr. Doan’s office to get him scanned.  All paws crossed to get him “home again”.

He wandered into bassethoundtown for a reason.  He sure knew that help could be found here.

More updates later…Love Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB guiding the lost home)

Lily Tingle – a hound with a heart, inside and out!

November 11th, 2013 - 7:07 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and hounds with a heart lovers…Lily’s Mommy is named Monnie and we have been friends and fellow residents for years.  Monnie and Lily drove from Louisville to the bassethoundtown walking club event last month and I finally got to meet Lily in person!

Look!  She has an almost perfect heart on her side!

LilyTingle1

Today Monnie and I almost had a homeless boy basset hound to tend to.  Poor thing found himself in need after his Daddy was sent to a nursing home.  Monnie called me and bassethoundtown was willing to take him in ASAP.  Monnie dashed over to get pictures and to make sure that the extended stay kennel who had him knew bassethoundtown was responsible for all of his expenses.

All’s well that ends well, it seems someone in the family’s circle is taking him.

Monnie said he was a good looking boy.

This is one of the many benefits of having a close knit town.

Here are Lily, Daisy Lynn, Nosey and I at the last walk.

Four girls just gabbing about girl things!

LilyTingle2

More leaving no hound behind later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB with rainbow hearts of gold.)

What is the history/roots of Basset Hound Rescue?

May 8th, 2013 - 3:03 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Basset Hound Rescue Lovers!

I want to pick everyone’s brains about the past. What are the roots/history of basset hound rescue? I have been working with some of the old timers in Rescue, the BHCA, The Bugler, and just anyone else that I can ask. From what I have learned in my research, bassets were fairly rare before the mid-50’s when “The People’s Choice” aired and starred the basset named Cleo. I have heard from several of my sources that this show kind of jump started the basset hound popularity during the late 50s/early 60s.

People's Choice Cleo

Cleo became so popular that a Little Golden Book (Simon and Schuster) was quickly developed and rushed into the hands of the new basset hound lovers…

cleo

I know my friend, Evelyn Leavens, who has recently passed away, adopted Boswell in 1953 from Lyn Mar Acres in NJ because of the popular TV show mentioned above.

Boswell Pedigree

It was a perfect time to write and illustrate her wildly popular children’s book, Boswell’s life of Boswell, (Simon and Schuster) which was number 2 on the New York Times Best Seller List for a brief period of time. I am sure many a kid wanted a basset after pouring over the amazing artwork and fun words.

So, with the combination of these 3 events bassets became more popular and entering more and more families. One thing is for sure, when a dog gets popular on TV and in books it is not always a good thing.

I was thinking that this would be about the same time that demand created a supply.

So, what do you know about the roots of basset hound rescue?

More loving the history of bassets later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB) knowing the answers to every question…

PS – I have the entire People’s Choice TV series on DVD.  I have not watched it yet but I will soon.  I will try to share a few clips with the residents.

The Yellow Dog Project…

April 26th, 2013 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and The Yellow Dog Project Lovers….

My guess is you have not heard of The Yellow Dog Project yet so let me share this wonderful idea that I think is going to take hold.

Postcard6x4-TYDP_1

Please pass the word to those you meet along the way.  Educate others and this will catch on.  I was actually in the process of placing Yellow Ribbons on the late Mayor’s leashes at the time of his passing.  I was getting us ready for spring.

ChaptheGreat

The Mayor, as grand and glorious as he was did not care for other dogs, except for our very own Emma.  He could be grouchy at times while on walks and this yellow ribbon would have been perfect for him and an education for others.

More missing the old grouch later…Cat, Daisy Lynn, (Chaps and Emma ATB knowing there  is no need for yellow ribbons;)

Attention Northern KY and Cincinnati area residents. Bonded couple needs networking!

March 22nd, 2013 - 8:08 am KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Bonded Couple Lovers…I saw this on facebook last night and I had to share in hopes someone might connect with this couple.

They are safe and with a great rescue called Louie’s Legacy.  Link at the bottom of this post.

Sir Atrtemus Dotson “Artie” – 6 yr old Basset Hound –

Sir Atrtemus Dotson "Artie" 6 years old

Artie came in to rescue with Nettie after their owner passed away and despite promising to care for them for the rest of their lives, the deceased man’s mother tried dumping them at the nearest shelter. Ohio Basset Rescue stepped in and two of the three dogs ended up with Louie’s Legacy. Artie is about 70 lbs of big ol’ hound dog. He is extremely friendly and loving with people, including kids and loves attention. He is also generally good with other dogs but has no problem dealing corrections to wild and wily youth. He’d do best with females or possibly submissive males who are adults and calm like him. Artie is housetrained and if at all possible, we’d like to see him placed with Nettie (picture below)  who is so attached to him.

Meet the pair at the Eastgate, (Cincinnati Area) PetSmart 12 – 5 PM on Saturday and 1 – 5 PM Sunday at the Mason PetSmart (Cincinnati Area) unless adopted first.

Now for the darling and delicious Nettie!  Farmgirl Nettie Mae – “Nettie”

9 year old Farmgirl Nettie Mae "Nettie"

9 yr old Basset Hound and Artie came in to rescue with Nettie after their owner passed away and despite promising to care for them for the rest of their lives, the deceased man’s mother tried dumping them at the nearest shelter. Ohio Basset Rescue stepped in and two of the three dogs ended up with Louie’s Legacy. Nettie is a big girl at about 70 lbs. She is happiest when she can follow Artie around and perks up whenever she sees him. She is quite depressed right now and took her owners passing and the changes in her life very, very hard. She is good with all other dogs, men, women and kids, and I can’t see her moving at all quickly after a cat either. Nettie is housetrained and if at all possible, we’d like to see her placed with Artie since she is so attached to him. It is an extra special family who will give a senior dog like Nettie a chance, but the rewards are immense. Nettie’s adoption fee is waived with the help of a caring donor, however you must still meet all adoption requirements to adopt. Meet the pair at the Eastgate PetSmart 12 – 5 PM on Saturday and 1 – 5 PM Sunday at the Mason PetSmart unless adopted first.

Anyone remember this guy? Today is his day on the Sr. Hounds Abound Calendar

January 28th, 2013 - 4:04 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and Nash lovers.  Remember bassethoundtown resident Nash?  He was the guy we were helping to find a home for.  He did find a really fine home but not prior to being passed around.  Poor Guy.

Nash4

For some reason I had a rash of pictures on the Sr. Hounds Abound Calendar fall at the end of January.  That’s OK.  Remember, I bought all of the remaining dates so I could showcase some of our residents.

I finally did confirm that Nash was related to Emma.  It took a lot of digging and research but finally someone fessed up.  I never could get the basset hound rescue he was with to even answer my questions.  Very sad.

I love you Nash.  Just know that Emma and I will support and report on hounds such as yourself.

More supporting and reporting later…Cat, Daisy Lynn (Chaps and Emma ATB) still working to shine light on primary, hereditary glaucoma…

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and not hound in the pound lovers…..Well, last night Ms. Marilyn from House of Puddles e-mailed me to see if I had in contacts in Somerset, KY.  I think Somerset is about 6 hours away or so.

I put this post on facebook this morning and received some pretty good networking help.

Here is the posting…….

This elder gentle hound wound up in “jail” at the Pulaski County Animal Shelter (606)679-6432 http://pcanimalshelter.com/ in Kentucky. They think he is about 7 or 8 but he looks older to me. He is on a stray hold until Monday but no one has called for him as of today. I called the pound this morning and they said he is really sweet. I told the pound I would network him. I think I will call him John, after my Dad. Please share! Thank you:)

John

Is John not just the sweetest hound?

I will keep you all posted and goodness sakes if you know anyone that can help this hound please comment and pass his information along.

My goal is to have him on his own couch quickly…..

More loving John and helping KY homeless later……Cat, Chaps and Emma

A brave TX Lady needs our help….

July 12th, 2011 - 2:02 pm KY Time

Howllo Fellow Basset Hound and TX Lady Lovers…..

EMMA’S GULLY BLANKET SOLD – SOLD – SOLD – TO SANDY GASTON OF CAMP TOAST FOR 70.00!

SANDY IS GOING TO RE-DONATE THE EMMA GULLY TO BASSET RESCUE OF PUDGET SOUND!

THANK YOU SANDY, LADY IS LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH GIVING FRIENDS IN HER LIFE!

Lady is a new resident of Bassethoundtown thanks to Cindy, Rugs, Jethro, Ozzie and Harriet Doyle.

Cindy volunteers for Basset Buddies Rescue of TX and helps with their ongoing efforts to aid the homeless hounds of TX.

Even though BBRTX was full they agreed to help Lady with her urgent medical needs.  Poor Lady was raging with glaucoma and was basically in an emergency situation. She needed her eyes removed pronto!

LadyTXDoyle

Cindy gives us some background….

“Lady was found on the internet by a young lady who took her and was going to care for her.  After a few days she realized that she had too many health issues and she would not be able to afford to do the vetting.  So, she called Galveston County Animal Shelter who called Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas to see if we would take her.  BBRTX didn’t have a foster home for this sweet girl but agreed to get her to the vet and start her journey to getting well while they searched for a foster home.  Lady had glaucoma, light heart worms, intestinal worms and needed spaying.  She is very thin and her nails were long and chipping.  She has started her journey to getting well by having her eyes removed, relieving her of much pressure and pain.  Her heartworms can be treated with heartguard and she was spayed while she was under having her eyes removed.  She was wormed for intestinal worms and her nails have been trimmed.  She already looks and feel much better.  She’s slowly gaining weight and has a big jump on her road to recovery.  She’s young and strong and it won’t be long before she’ll be enjoying her new life ahead.”

Well, as Cindy told us, Lady had her eyes removed a few days ago.

LadyTXDoyleER

She is doing remarkable and is probably experiencing massive relief from the intense pain of glaucoma.  Now she needs a home and some money to pay her tab at the vet.  Cindy thinks that the bill will be about 1000.00 with everything she has had done.  Lady is also boarding at the vet as well.  So far someone has donated 300.00 towards her vet bill.  I think it is someone that is on BBRTX facebook page.

Chaps and Grandma donated 50.00.

Cindy is doing a fundraiser at work.

Now, Emma wants to do her part.  Emma wants to donate a brand new fresh gully blanket!

Trooper

Trooper just sent me a calendar and each month is better than the next.

I picked up VooDoo at 8:15 this morning. Himz was all zippy with a spring in his step.
